Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004), better known by his shortened stage name Ray Charles, was an American musician. Ray was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm & blues, gospel, and blues styles into his early recordings with Atlantic Records.[1][2][3] He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his Modern Sounds albums.[4][5][6] While with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company.[

Durbin Votes With GOP On Extending Bush Cuts For Up To $1 million
Speaking of Illinois senators, today the Senate held two votes on the Bush tax cuts. The first was to retain the Bush-era tax cuts for incomes only up to $250,000. The second was to do the same for incomes up to $1 million. Both bills were defeated. A number of Democrats voted against each respective bill. According to Talking Points Memo, the Democrats who voted with the GOP on the second bill included Illinois’s Sen. Dick Durbin:
The vote was 53-36. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Tom Harkin (D-IA) Lieberman and Feingold voted with the GOP on the second. That vote was 53-37, and reflected progressives’ unease with redefining the middle class at the $1,000,000 income threshold

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama said on Saturday a new trade deal with South Korea will boost U.S. annual exports of automobile, agricultural products and other goods and services by $11 billion.
Obama said the free-trade deal, reached after intensive negotiations in the past few days, would boost exports to South Korea by $11 billion and support at least 70,000 American jobs.
He said the U.S. car and truck manufacturers would gain more access to the South Korean market “and a level playing field to take advantage of that access.”
“Last month in Seoul I directed our negotiators to achieve the best deal for American workers and companies and this agreement meets that test,” Obama said in a statement.

Dem Senator: Negotiating with Republicans “Almost” like Negotiating with “Terrorists”

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reports: Did Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) just compare Republicans to terrorists?
Well, not really. But he did compare negotiating with Republicans to negotiating with terrorists.
At a press conference with fellow Democrats, Menendez lashed out at Republicans for opposing Democratic efforts to extend the Bush tax cuts for the middle class while allowing the tax cuts for the wealthy to expire.
He accused the Republicans of holding middle class tax cuts “hostage” to tax cuts for the wealthy. That’s a common Democratic line, but Menendez took the analogy a step further.
Asked if Democrats have a responsibility to move forward with a bill that can become law – in other words, a bill Republicans will support and not block– here’s what Menendez said:
“Do you allow yourself to be held hostage and get something done for the sake of getting something done, when in fact it might be perverse in its ultimate results? It’s almost like the question of do you negotiate with terrorists.”
Republicans are crying foul.
“It’s astounding that Senators from New York and New Jersey would compare people who want to prevent a tax increase to terrorists.” said Brad Dayspring, spokesperson for incoming House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. “. In the 10 seconds it took to utter the phrase, they effectively revealed why people don’t trust Democrats on issues of fiscal or national security. They just don’t get it.”
Menendez spokesman says Republicans are taking the senator out of context.
“Not surprisingly, Republicans would take a comment out of context in order to change the subject from their millionaires-first tax plan,” Menendez spokesman Afshin Mohamadi told ABC News. “The critical point for middle class Americans remains that Republicans have chosen to jeopardize tax cuts for every middle class family in order to guarantee an average tax cut of $104,000 for each millionaire.”

Charles Manson didn’t post to Facebook using a smart phone, but he did make calls using a cell phone from prison.
The infamous convicted murderer had an LG flip phone hidden under his mattress which was found by prison officials. Manson used the phone to make calls and send text messages to people in California, New Jersey, Florida and British Columbia, Terry Thornton, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections, told the Los Angeles Times.

BOSTON — The wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said on Friday that a recent telephone call to Anita Hill, the woman at the center of a 1991 furor at Thomas’ confirmation hearing, was probably a mistake.
In October, Virginia Thomas, a conservative activist, left an unexpected voicemail suggesting Hill consider apologizing “for what you did with my husband” at the hearing 19 years earlier.
Hill is now a professor of social policy, law and women’s studies at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. The message was left on her office answering machine.

Fox News Lawyers Up, Responds To Allegations Of Campaign Finance Law Violations

WASHINGTON — The Fox News network has solicited the services of a prominent D.C. law firm and an equally prominent campaign finance lawyer to ward off a suit alleging that it made illegal in-kind contributions to a Republican gubernatorial candidate.
The conservative-leaning network has hired Larry Noble, a well-known attorney at the firm Skadden Arps, to defend itself against a suit filed during the height of the 2010 campaign by the Democratic Governor’s Association.
In a filing with the Ohio Elections Commission in late November, Noble argued that the allegations leveled by the DGA were not just baseless but also designed to have a “chilling effect” on future press coverage.
In early August, the Democratic campaign arm accused Fox of illegally helping to raise money on behalf of incoming Ohio Governor John Kasich (R-Ohio) by running a chyron featuring his website at the same time that he was soliciting donations during an interview on Bill O’Reilly’s show.
Filed shortly after it was reported that Fox’s parent company, NewsCorp. had made a million dollar donation to the Republican Governor’s Association, the DGA’s complaint seemed politically-motivated. And in his response, Noble makes the case that there was little precedent to interpret campaign finance law with such sweeping conclusions.
