GOP DROPS THE PEAS
After President Obama issues some TOUGH LOVE
Meanwhile, Moody’s not in the MOOD.
By Neil Irwin, Wednesday, July 13, 4:44 PM
Moody’s Investors Service said Wednesday it has put the U.S. government’s top-notch credit rating on review for a possible downgrade because of the risk that Washington will not raise the federal debt ceiling in time to avoid a default.
The firm added that even a brief failure of the government to pay its bills would mean that the United States’s Aaa rating “would likely no longer be appropriate.” Source

Boehner Rejects Obama Invitation

Debt ceiling talks have fallen to a new low. House Speaker John Boehner
(R-Ohio) is now unwilling even to meet over the weekend, with just days until
the administration-imposed deadline to pass legislation to avert default. “The
Speaker has told the White House he sees no need to go to Camp David this
weekend,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said in a statement.
I am so sick of these ignorant repugs. I still cannot believe they have tried to pull this bs over on the nation. The President has been stunning. My Oh My!
So if Bonehead refused to go, does that mean the other repugs won’t attend either?
Hello.
It’s sheer madness, Dorothy, and we’re seeing it unfold before our eyes!
McCaskill: McConnell ‘Has Lost His Mind’
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/11/debt-ceiling-obama-deficit_n_895126.html#s280957&title=The_Stock_Market
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said Thursday morning that Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has “lost his mind.”
“I would just say Mitch, honestly, with a straight face, do a press conference and say, ‘Here’s the solution to the problem: Let’s let the Democrats do it and we want them to do it three times before the next election and it will be OK with us if they do it as long as we don’t have to touch it.’ And people aren’t ridiculing that? This is when we’re supposed to come together,” McCaskill said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday.
McCaskill also had some choice words for House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). “I don’t know what he’s got going on in his caucus,” she said. “It looks like a hot, sloppy mess.”
BWA HA HA ya got the MO Senator calling McConnelll & the GOP a “HOT MESS”
You go girl! Okay, why in the hell do they have to have Obama approval numbers on the screen. Will it never end?
Reid: Cantor should not be in debt limit talks
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says House Majority Leader Eric Cantor should not be part of the debt limit negotiations. He’s calling the Virginia Republican congressman “childish.”
Reid says Cantor’s conduct during the sensitive White House talks have shown, in Reid’s words, “he shouldn’t even be at the table.” Reid says other congressional leaders are negotiating in good faith as an Aug. 2 deadline approaches for raising the debt limit.

Dissent In The Ranks
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/14/debt-ceiling-republicans-cantor-boehner_n_898070.html#comments
WASHINGTON -– Republican leaders trying to wrangle deep spending cuts from President Barack Obama face an even more implacable negotiating partner: their own rank and file.
As they struggle to reach a budget deal that would allow Congress to extend the nation’s borrowing authority beyond an August 2 deadline, Republican leaders in the House of Representatives must keep an eye on a back bench that has shown a marked distaste for any sort of compromise.
Republican leaders use a telling phrase when they reject Democratic proposals: any deal that includes taxes “can’t pass the House.” Junior lawmakers have not been afraid to let their leaders know where they stand and even undercut them at times.
At times it’s not clear who’s in charge.
“The internal negotiations among the Republicans themselves in Congress, whether it’s just the House or between the House and the Senate, are in an abyss,” said Ethan Siegal, an analyst with The Washington Exchange, which tracks Congress for investors.
Eric Cantor, a New Nixon
http://themoderatevoice.com/116166/eric-cantor-a-new-nixon/
When John Boehner pulled back from his Grand Bargain with the President last weekend, the cynical suspected that he and Eric Cantor were playing good cop-bad cop. But it’s clear now that Boehner was being undermined by his own sidekick.
Cantor is looking more and more like a young Richard Nixon. In 1952, when Nixon was on the GOP ticket with Ike before the Checkers speech, a Democratic volunteer asked, “What do we say when they ask exactly what’s wrong with him?”
Someone suggested, “The only answer to that is, if you don’t know, I’m sorry for you.”
From then until Watergate, Americans found answers to what the intuitive could see then in a recklessly ambitious young pol who would do anything to get ahead.
Now, as Cantor now embarrasses his boss John Boehner in the debt ceiling debate, that blind ambition is obvious again in another charisma-free climber with limited intelligence and no scruples.
THIS: “another charisma-free climber with limited intelligence and no scruples”
Uh huh! Everyone knows…
Could it be that this idiot cantor really thinks he might be president some day? Gag!
Giuliani, Newt,& Palin thought the same thing! Remember how that worked out for them?
Thu Jul 14, 2011 at 01:15 PM PDT Obama’s Political TRAP
by RWN
July 12, 2011 ended without fanfare, the “Supply-Side” political economic era when Senator Mitch McConnell offered his “back-door” out of the debt-ceiling crisis. Let’s face it, the Debt-Ceiling and the entire political kitchen sink that has been thrown into the political crisis is now exposed as a political trap by the Obama team. As the radical Republicans entered the fray they thought they had the debt-ceiling and its subsequent Treasury default as hostage to force the Democrats and Obama into a political deal of their liking—but they miscalculated and now are trapped in a political box canyon.

Some in GOP fed up with Cantor’s antics
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/node/41420
Republican insiders — fed up with the scorched-earth tactics of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor — privately fear the fiery Virginia right-winger could destroy the party’s majority in the House of Representatives with his constant undermining of Speaker John Boehner’s attempts to reach a debt deal with President Barack Obama.
But while Republicans fret, Obama uses Cantor’s intransigence to drive a deeper wedge between the Majority Leader and the Speaker.
According to the web site Politico, Obama is exploiting tensions between Cantor and Boehner. Meanwhile, GOP sources close to the Speaker tell Capitol Hill Blue that party leaders have “had it” with Cantor’s constant efforts to undermine Boehner’s position as Speaker.
“Whether Eric Cantor likes it or not, John Boehner is the leader of our party in the House of Representatives,” one frustrated GOP consultant said Tuesday. “If Cantor continues his infantile actions, there won’t be a Republican majority in the House after 2012.”
Ari Melba of The Nation stated on The Last Word that President Obama today at this stage of his presidency has more support among Democrats than any Democratic President in 50 years!
Take that firebaggers and teabaggers!
Cantor, Boehner, McConnell…
I love this! Where do you get these cool graphics? Do you create them yourself?
Hi Aquagranny! No, I don’t create them. I just find them from different places.

I don’t know how to do photoshop, but I saw this over at BJ in the comments, and would hope that some of the creative folks here could make it happen:
Obama to GOP leaders on debt ceiling: “This may bring my presidency down, but I will not yield on this.“
Needs to be a new tag, imo. For those wondering about Obama’s chops in the trenches with the wingnuts, now that they run a branch of congress.
We need a picture of Obama as Gandalf at Khazid-Dum.

After Months of Planning, Obama Mobilizes Big Business in Debt Talks
http://swampland.time.com/2011/07/13/after-months-of-planning-obama-mobilizies-big-business-in-debt-talks/
This letter from Big Business to all of Washington’s political leaders urging a speedy resolution to the debt limit debate was partly in response to a push by the Obama administration to up pressure for a deal. In recent days the White House and Treasury Department have been in contact with top business lobbyists and nationally recognized businessmen, urging them to wield their influence with those who might risk going down to the wire in the debt limit talks.
Some in the administration have been setting up the business play for months. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s guest at last April’s White House Correspondents Association Dinner, and in a chat at Treasury beforehand, the mayor offered to help with the debt ceiling negotiation. At the time, Geithner said it would be more helpful to wait until it got close to the deadline, a senior administration official says.
Cantor is accused of juvenile behavior during the meeting. POTUS swatted him like a fly!
Tensions Escalate as Stakes Grow in Fiscal Clash
By CARL HULSE
Published: July 13, 2011
WASHINGTON — The Federal Reserve chairman, Ben S. Bernanke, warned on Wednesday of a “huge financial calamity” if President Obama and the Republicans cannot agree on a budget deal that allows the federal debt ceiling to be increased. Moody’s, the ratings agency, threatened a credit downgrade, citing a “rising possibility” that no deal would be reached before the government’s borrowing authority hits its limit on Aug. 2.
Panic had not yet set in, but the worry and tension were evident as seasoned lawmakers of both parties whose experience told them that Congress always finds a white-knuckle way to avert disaster wondered if this was going to be the time when it did not.
“Our problem is, we made a big deal about this for three months,” said Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina.
“How many Republicans have been on TV saying, ‘I am not going to raise the debt limit,’ ” said Mr. Graham, including himself in the mix of those who did so. “We have no one to blame but ourselves.”
