First stop: THE INTRODUCTION 2012
THE INTRODUCTION 2008
SMGDH at the 2008 REDUX. If this isn’t an OMEN…
Mitt Romney has endoresed the Ryan Plan from jump, and now that he’s selected Paul Ryan as his VP pick, he’s trying to defend the MEDICARE DEBACLE in PAUL RYAN’S PLAN. Romney camp prepares Medicare defense after Ryan pick
Here are the internal talking points about Medicare being circulated by the Romney campaign, provided to CNN from a Republican source:
Do you worry that Paul Ryan’s controversial Medicare plan will hurt the campaign with independents?- No. President Obama is the one who should be worried, because he has cut $700 BILLION from Medicare to pay for Obamacare, and put in place a panel of Washington bureaucrats to make decisions about what kind of care seniors will receive under Medicare. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have a bipartisan plan to strengthen Medicare by giving future seniors the choice between traditional Medicare and a variety of private plans. They are committed to ensuring that Medicare remains strong, not just for today’s seniors, but for tomorrow’s seniors as well. READ ON. Romney’s trying to walk back his ENTIRE support of the Ryan Plan.
That’s strange, since Romney has strongly endorsed the Romney-Ryan Budget throughout his campaign – turning time and time again to the same tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans on the backs of middle-class families as Paul Ryan has championed in Congress. The Romney-Ryan Budget would turn Medicare into a voucher program, make severe cuts to programs like education that would hamper job creation, and repeal health care reform and key protections in Wall Street reform – all to pay for massive tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.
HISTORY OF ROMNEY’S EMBRACE OF THE RYAN PLAN:
Politico: “Romney Endorses Ryan budget” Romney: “I’m Very Supportive Of The Ryan Budget Plan” – “I Applaud It. It’s An Excellent Piece Of Work And Very Much Needed.”
Associated Press: Romney: “I Think It’d Be Marvelous If The Senate Were To Pick Up Paul Ryan’s Budget And To Adopt It And Pass It Along To The President.
From Romney for President: Mitt Romney: The House “Has Put Conservative Fiscal Principles Into Action and Passed a Bold Budget”
National Journal: Ryan: Romney Will Enact My Budget
Ryan: “I’m not expecting everybody to enact every little piece of this,” Ryan said. “But, yes, he—and the other candidates running for president—have embraced these kinds of reforms because we know it’s the best way to save and strengthen the Medicare guarantee, save Medicaid.”
Obama senior adviser David Plouffe, appearing on Fox News Sunday, attacked Romney for his willingness to take up the Ryan budget.
“This is really the Romney-Ryan plan,” he said. “It will be rubberstamped if Mitt Romney is elected president. It fails the test of balance, fairness and shared responsibility. It showers huge tax cuts on millionaires and billionaires, paid for by seniors and veterans.”
ROMNEY HAD MADE PASSING AND SIGNING REP. PAUL RYAN’S 2011 PLAN A PART OF HIS OWN ECONOMIC PLAN
Romney Said “Yes” He Would Sign The Ryan Plan That Would Have Restructured Medicare.“On health care, Romney responded “yes” when asked if he would sign the plan written by Rep. Paul Ryan that would restructure Medicare if it reached his desk as President, but quickly added that he would be offering his own plan.” [ABC News, 6/2/11]
Romney’s Economic Plan: “Pass The House Republican Budget Proposal.” [Romney Press Release, “Cut The Spending,” 11/4/11]
Romney Said He Hoped The Ryan Plan Is Introduced As A Bill On Day One Of His Presidency. Romney “I hope I get to file that bill day one. It may be that Paul Ryan is able to get that under way and completed before then. Probably not, but I sure hope so.” [Romney Event at Missouri Valley Steel in Sioux City, 12/16/11]
Romney argues his successful business background makes him uniquely qualified to lift the fortunes of America’s struggling middle class.
Romney: “I want to use the experience I have in the world of the free enterprise system to make sure that America gets working again,” he said.
What you should know about Romney’s Vice Presidential pick Paul Ryan
Obama for America Campaign Manager Jim Messina released the following statement in response to Mitt Romney picking Congressman Paul Ryan to be his presumptive nominee for vice president: http://bit.ly/N3Lq2K
“In naming Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has chosen a leader of the House Republicans who shares his commitment to the flawed theory that new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy, while placing greater burdens on the middle class and seniors, will somehow deliver a stronger economy. Thearchitect of the radical Republican House budget, Ryan, like Romney, proposed an additional $250,000 tax cut for millionaires, and deep cuts in educationfrom Head Start to college aid. His plan also would end Medicare as weknow it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors. As a member of Congress, Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy. Now the Romney-Ryan ticket would take us back by repeating the same, catastrophic mistakes.” – Jim Messina
