Romney campaign took out $20-million loan, still owes $11 million

WASHINGTON — Hamstrung by campaign finance laws, the Mitt Romney campaign sought a $20-million loan last month, a campaign official confirmed Tuesday, of which $11 million still needs to be paid.

Romney’s fundraising this summer has been prolific, stringing together three consecutive months of raising more than $100 million for his presidential bid. But there was a catch: until late August, he couldn’t spend a good portion of that money. The result: The $20-million loan.

That liability pales in comparison to Romney’s cash reserves. The campaign announced earlier this month that Romney Victory — the joint fundraising effort between the Romney campaign and the Republican Party — ended August with $168.5 million in the bank.

How Romney’s Economic Plan Redistributes Wealth To The Wealthy
By Pat Garofalo on Sep 19, 2012 at 9:35 am

Mitt Romney yesterday attempted to turn attention away from the fallout of his comments regarding the “47 percent” by pointing to a video from 1998 in which President Obama, then a state senator, says, “I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure everybody’s got a shot.” The video was aggressively pushed by the Drudge Report and was detailed in a Romney campaign memo today.

This video doesn’t show much of anything new: President Obama has consistently advocated for higher tax rates on the rich, a position most Americans support, and more support for low-income Americans.

Romney’s response also ignores that his own economic plan would redistribute wealth too — Romney would just redistribute it to the already wealthy.
According to a Tax Policy Center analysis, Romney’s plan would increase after-tax income for those making more than $200,000 annually, while lowering it for everyone else:

I totally love this new incite, I truly feel people should do more research before rushing to judgement on either party. The only problem is Mitt Romney keeps boldly shooting himself in the foot and then laughing about because he feels financially secure with the most wealthiest people having to support him eventhough many cannot stand him nor his arrogant approach to the highest seat in office! Great job!
