Post Election Romney and Bain Face a Federal Corruption and Perjury Hearing

It is absolutely true that Romney was looking forward to cutting his own tax liability to zero, privatizing the federal government, handing the Social Security Trust to Wall Street, and waging perpetual war, but with a plethora of investigations and allegations of corruption into his finances on the horizon, appointing a friendly Attorney General was certainly a primary reason for seeking the presidency. To date, Romney’s legal troubles include fallacious FEC and SEC disclosures, an investigation into him and his son’s connection to an $8.5 billion Ponzi scheme, and concealing over $15 million from the auto-bailout, and now his surrogate’s malfeasance and perjury in the eToys bankruptcy case.
Exactly ten days ago, this column reported on a Delaware bankruptcy court’s failure to enter an Emergency Motion into the public docket that included Bain Capital and Romney operative’s perjury and corruption in the eToys bankruptcy case. At the time it appeared the judge was protecting Romney and Bain Capital by suppressing the Motion in expectation he would win the election and have the Motion tossed out of court leading to the question; “is Romney’s main impetus for seeking the White House to appoint an Attorney General who will guarantee that all charges against him will go away?” Well now that he lost the election, it appears the allegation had merit because on November 7, the day after his crushing defeat, the Delaware bankruptcy court judge entered the motion into the public docket and scheduled a hearing for December 4, 2012; all on the same day.

“Barack Obama was no more responsible for what happened in Benghazi than George Bush was for Sept. 11th or Ronald Reagan was for the blowing up of U.S. Marines in Beirut,” Rep. Eliot Engle (D-NY) said.
“The stench of hypocrisy that hangs over this city today emanates from this room,” Ackerman said. “I’ve listened to my colleagues talk about the President of the United States and others in the administration using [the] terms ‘deliberate’, ‘lies’, ‘unmitigated gall’, ‘malfeasance,’ which is malicious and knowing evil-doing, ‘disgust’, ‘coverups’.”
He continued, “If you want to know who is responsible in this town, buy yourself a mirror!”
Ackerman went on to say that Republicans had “the audacity to come here” when the administration requested, for worldwide security, “$440 million more than you guys wanted to provide. And the answer is that you damn didn’t provide it! You REDUCED what the administration asked for to protect these people. Ask not who the guilty party is, it’s you! It is us. It is this committee, and the things that we insist that we need have to cost money.”
He added, “Could you tell me which of my colleagues on this committee was as bodacious in their insistence that we provide more money for American security in the State Department budget. I would appreciate it.”
Ackerman then asked them to raise their hands and gave them a count of five to do so. None did.

Rep. Clyburn put McCain and Graham on notice!
Clyburn, speaking Wednesday night on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” took it a step further, saying that McCain and Graham are messing with a family friend.
“I have a real, real problem with my senior senators trying to make her a scapegoat in this,” Clyburn said. “Susan Rice’s roots are in Florence, South Carolina… Her father, Emmett, who was born there in Florence, didn’t leave there until he was 16 years old… (he and) I have been a close friend of his over the years. I’m a close friend of Susan Rice.”
“I think it’s absolutely a shame for this young lady, whose roots are deep in South Carolina soil, to get sullied like this by my senior senator, who I consider a good friend,” Clyburn continued.
When “Hardball” host Chris Matthews asked why McCain and Graham are treating Rice “like she’s somebody to punch,” Clyburn responded: “That’s exactly right. This is a young African-American woman, I’m going to say.”
“And this is the kind of stuff that happened to Colin Powell,” Clyburn said, referring to incorrect intelligence information about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that the former Secretary of State received and later conveyed to the United Nations as justification wage war against Saddam Hussein’s regime. “He went to the United Nations with information that we found out later was flawed. It was not his fault then…and it’s not Susan Rice’s fault.”

Webster apologizes for comments about black voters

Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster issued an apology Thursday for his statements about unknown black voters casting ballots in rural Maine on Election Day.
“I apologize for my recent remarks about African-American voter turnout in rural Maine towns,” Webster said in a written statement. “It was my intention to talk not about race, but about perceived voting irregularities. However, my comments were made without proof of wrongdoing and they had the unintended consequence of casting aspersions on an entire group of Americans. For that, I am truly sorry.
“Additionally, I will not be sending out any mailers to try to determine whether the addresses of recent registrants are valid, as I stated in the interview.
“Finally, I want to make clear that my remarks do not express the values of the Maine Republican Party, which stands for individual rights and seeks to represent all Mainers regardless of race, sex, age, religion, or wealth.”
The apology comes after members of his own party sharply criticized him, even calling for his immediate resignation. Webster said earlier Thursday that he felt bad for singling out black voters during a wide-ranging, post-election interview this week with Don Carrigan of WCSH-TV.
He said his point is not that the new voters were black, but that they were not recognized by town officials.

Yesterday, BuzzFlash at Truthout laid out the case that Eric Cantor was likely attempting a longshot last minute effort to tip the election for Romney when he contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director at the behest of a rogue FBI agent. We noted that Cantor was assisting an agent in undermining the agent’s chain of command in doing so, based on the agent’s charges of anonymous harassing e-mails being sent to a woman who he was sending shirtless photos of himself to.
In fact, we noted that the FBI found the behavior of the agent who Cantor championed so inappropriate that they ordered him to cease and desist from involvement in the investigation and is currently conducting an inquiry into his actions. The agent, furthermore, had no cybersecurity expertise and normally would have had little or no role in the investigation, except that he appeared to have an apparent yen for Jill Kelley and dislike of President Obama that an anonymous FBI spokesman has termed “obsessive.” The latter he obviously shared with Eric Cantor.

Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-VA) picked up the push back. He held up a letter, dated yesterday, in which he was asked to co-sign saying that Susan Rice is unfit to be secretary of State.
“Smear, character assassination, judgment before all the facts are in is McCarthyism,” Connolly said, “and that’s an attempt to besmirch, in my opinion, the reputation of a very talented and capable public servant. I want no part of it.”
He added, “The election is over. The president won reelection. The voices of the public were heard. They want us to cooperate. If you want an honest investigation of this tragedy, we will join you. But if you want to persist in trying to put this, lay this somehow at the doorstep of the president or the secretary of State or the United Nations ambassador, you will find us ready and willing to resist to the teeth.”

Georgia Lawmakers Held Session on Obama Brainwashing
Gawker: “Last month, the watchdog group Better Georgia managed to record nearly a full hour of a four-hour closed door meeting of Republican state senators which was convened by Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R) to discuss President Obama’s efforts to brainwash Americans on behalf of the United Nations.”
Part of the session was caught on video before the infiltrators were escorted out.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that several lawmakers claimed their per diem rate for attending the session.

The Voters Were Bribed!
Romney gives his own explanation for his loss to the only people he really cared about: his donor base. As usual with Republicans these days, there is no real personal responsibility. They do nothing wrong ever. They confess to no mistakes themselves. And we now kinda know that Romney’s “47 percent” remarks were actually what he deeply believes. Get a load of this:
“I’m very sorry that we didn’t win,” Mr. Romney said on the call. “I know that you expected to win, we expected to win, we were disappointed with the result, we hadn’t anticipated it, and it was very close, but close doesn’t count in this business.”
He continued: “And so now we’re looking and saying, ‘O.K., what can we do going forward?’ But frankly, we’re still so troubled by the past, it’s hard to put together our plans for the future.”
He’s so “troubled” that he cannot plan anything. Does he mean the election was rigged? Or stolen? No – just a function of crude bribery:
“You can imagine for somebody making $25,000 or $30,000 or $35,000 a year, being told you’re now going to get free health care, particularly if you don’t have it, getting free health care worth, what, $10,000 per family, in perpetuity — I mean, this is huge,” Mr. Romney said. “Likewise with Hispanic voters, free health care was a big plus. But in addition with regards to Hispanic voters, the amnesty for children of illegals, the so-called Dream Act kids, was a huge plus for that voting group.
A couple of obvious questions. Does Romney understand that he is essentially saying that Democratic voters were not interested in the common good, that they had no opinions about the issues as a whole, but were simply after getting “stuff”, as Bill O’Reilly explained. Does he understand how that insults the intelligence and good faith of a majority of Americans?
And nothing is free in government. It either has to be paid for in taxes or borrowing. So is Romney’s very low tax rate (compared with mine), for example, not a gift from the government? Are all the net federal transfers of wealth to red states not also, by that logic, a gift? What would Romney call getting offered a job with zero risk (Bain Capital), and a promise that if the investments did not work out, he could go back to his old job with no penalty, and retroactively get all his previous salary paid? Was that a gift as well? Or was that thriving, striving, Deseret?
The condescension and unconscious racism in all this prompted one Republican to protest.

(CNN) – It’s the season of election post-mortems, and one former Republican National Committee chairman offered his perhaps blunt thoughts about why his party “got outplayed and outflanked” in 2012.
Michael Steele was swept in as the RNC chairman after major GOP losses in 2008, then ousted after some GOP leaders thought the Republicans’ gains in the 2010 midterm elections came in spite of his leadership and at great cost. Some saw him as unconventional and others considered him damaging to the party.
“You can’t put the blinders on and say this was a status quo election,” Steele said at the “Washington Ideas Forum” on Thursday. “This was not a status quo election at all. From the ground game to the get-out-the-vote, to the messaging, nothing was status quo.”

The 4-week moving average was 3,254,500, an increase of 17,750 from the preceding week’s revised average of 3,236,750.

All the states petitioning to secede from the United States that obtained enough signatures to elicit a response from the White House — with the exception of Alabama — were some of the largest recipients of federal funding in 2010.
Census records show that six of the seven states that amassed more than 25,000 signatures on their petitions to form independent nations in the past week took more than $10 million in revenue from the federal government that year.
The seven states – Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina – took more than 23 percent of all federal revenue allotted to the states that year.

The head of the Republican Party in Maine thinks there might have been voter fraud in his state because “nobody in town knows anyone who’s black,” but black voters came in to vote on election day.
GOP state chairman Charlie Webster aims to find those who committed the alleged fraud fraud by sending thank you cards to voters, and seeing if they are returned to sender.
In an interview with an NBC affiliate, Webster said he was astounded by the “dozens, dozens of black people” who voted, and thought it was odd because he personally doesn’t know anyone who knows a black person in town:

When GOP Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham stepped before the cameras Wednesday and renewed their calls for a Watergate-like committee to probe the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in Libya, their longtime partner — Sen. Joe Lieberman – was noticeably missing.
Lieberman later emerged from a classified, closed-door briefing with a much different message: A special congressional committee is unnecessary — at least for now. Lieberman says his Homeland Security Committee could handle a broad investigation into the deadly Benghazi assault just fine.
