House that George and Shellie rented
Based on docket sheet entries, after the verdict in George Zimmerman’s case, and while Shellie was awaiting trial in her perjury case, her parents were also going to court.
Shellie Zimmerman’s parents apparently invested in property that they rented. Of the four foreclosure cases, three are rental property, and one is for their own residence.
Case Number 2012CA001576
On March 23, 2012, US National Bank Association filed a complaint against the “non residential” house owned by Machelle and David Dean, Shellie Zimmerman’s parents. Carmillia Barns and Troy Chapman are also named as defendants. It is not known if they are tenants or co-owners. Judge Debra Nelson presides over the case.
Case Number 2012CA002452
On May 10, 2012, Bank of America filed foreclosure on “residential” property owned by Machalle and David Dean, Shellie Zimmerman’s parents. George Barns is also named as a defendant. It is not known if he is a renter or co-owner. Judge Rudisill presides over the case.
Case Number 2012CA003022
On June 11, 2012, New York Community Bank filed a complaint against “non residential” property owned by Machelle and David Dean, Shellie Zimmerman’s parents. Sarina Harmon is also named as a defendant. It is not known if this person is a renter or co-owner. Judge Debra Nelson presides over the case. On September 11, 2013, a final judgment for $108,877.57 was entered. That property is located in Fairlane Estates.
Case number 2012CA003896
On August 2, 2012, the Bank of New York Mellon filed a complaint against the “non residential” house owned by Machelle and David Dean, Shellie Zimmerman’s parents. Judge Debra Nelson presides over the case.
Court dockets do not provide the address for the property, so it is not known if the house that George and Shellie were renting from her parents for $1,000 a month is one of the foreclosures.
Why mention this? Because, in the midst of George awaiting trial and going through trial, Shellie’s parents had, and still have, their own problems. Robert Sr. and Gladys Zimmerman have stated to the media that since George killed Trayvon Martin, they have lost everything. Yet, both still have retirement income. Robert Sr. has a website asking for money, and he has a self-published book that he markets on that website. To the best of my knowledge, Machelle nor David Dean have a website requesting donations.

George’s parents did not make arrangements for him and Shellie to live with them under the same roof to share living and security expenses. It was Shellie’s parents that provided her and George with a roof over their heads.
On September 9, 2013, George thanked them by getting into an altercation with Shellie and her dad. Using her iPad, Shellie recorded the property she was moving out of the house, in addition to the altercation where she alleges George snatched her iPad from her hand. An outside surveillance camera recorded George Zimmerman take the iPad apart and throw it to the ground. That video also shows George Zimmerman reaching into his shirt as if going for his gun in a shoulder holster, and taking an aggressive stance.

Shellie Zimmerman — who stood solidly by husband George Zimmerman during his trial for gunning down Trayvon Martin — now says she has doubts about George’s innocence.
Shellie — who’s in the middle of a nasty divorce — appeared on the “Today” show, saying “I think anyone would doubt [George’s] innocence, because I don’t know the person that I’ve been married to.”
As for why Shellie’s changing her tune … she says it’s all about the incident at their home this month when she called cops and claimed George was threatening her with a gun.
She admits she never saw a weapon… but saw George with his hand inside his shirt … and “a look in his eyes” that she’d never seen before.
SZ: LE made clear that if she pressed charges, all would go to jail and she’d be the only one staying because she is on probation.
What’s that about?
Does it mean that LE is saying that they might press charges themselves after they potentially get info off her IPad?

In her first interview since the domestic dispute with husband George Zimmerman earlier this month, Shellie Zimmerman is spilling even more beans and telling the world that she doubts his version of what happened the night Trayvon Martin was shot and killed.
Shellie did, however, say that she still doesn’t think her soon-to-be ex-husband profiled the teen. But then she revealed to Matt Lauer that George snubbed her after he was acquitted of murdering the 17-year-old.
And about that huge blowout earlier this month between Shellie, George, and her father where he allegedly threatened her with a gun and broke her iPad?
She even told Lauer the surprising reason she decided not to press charges.
Police made it clear to her that they would all be going to jail that day, but Shellie would have to stay in jail because she’s serving a year probation for perjury.
Remember when she lied about how much money she and George Zimmerman had in order to protect him?
She wants to finally be done with the union, but that seems impossible now that she doesn’t know where to find her husband to serve him with divorce papers.
Maybe this latest interview will bring him out of hiding.
Well, if someone were to ask me, I would say that Shellie Zimmerman is acting like a person who knows (at some level) that she has done something very, very wrong. She knows that her husband is a murderer and that she helped him evade justice. But I’m not sure what all of these interviews are about. If she incrementally rats out George, can she buy back her soul, can she buy peace of mind, or is she just getting paid to do interviews?

I concur, SG2. Shellie was mostly done with George before he killed Trayvon Martin, but when George became a media sensation with a cult following that put money in his bank account, Shellie went along for the ride to see where it would take her. Now, of course, Shellie has learned the difference between fame and infamy, that she isn’t Cinderella and she’s not going to the ball. Her parents are broke, George is gone, and all she’s got left is what she knows about George that not many others do. She’s either trying to bank that by doling it out or she’s looking for some kind of redemption by easing up to the truth. I pick number one.
Quite frankly, I wish that Eric Holder would waterboard the whole lot of them and get the truth, the whole truth, and be done with it.
I just keep praying that Sabrina and Tracy will continued to be given strength as they continue to wait for the DOJ to take action while at the same time watching the gz and Shellie unraveling episodes.

It appears that the Deans decided to be landlords at exactly the wrong time, near the top of the real estate boom. According to the Seminole County property appraiser, they own four properties in Seminole County, two in Lake Mary and two in Sanford.
The two houses in Sanford, both on the same street, were bought in 2004 and 2005. The 2004 house was bought for $114K and has a 2013 assessed value and market value of $70,230. The 2005 house was bought for $169,900 and has a 2013 assessed value and market value of $71,968.
The two houses in Lake Mary, both on the same street, were bought in 1998 and 2006. We can assume that the 1998 house is the one where the Deans lived and the 2006 house was the rental. The 1998 house was bought for $158,000, 2013 assessed value is $230,331 and market value is $240,054. The 2012 market value is $209,392 showing significant appreciation in 2013. The 2006 was bought for $325,000, 2013 assessed value and market value is $229,759. The 2012 market value is $197,829 again showing significant appreciation for the year.
Given the filing dates for when the banks started the foreclosure process on each of the homes, it is clear that the Deans were having financial problems before their son-in-law murdered Trayvon Martin. It is hard to say what might have happened. If the rental properties are bringing in enough to cover their own expenses, then there would be no reason to lose the properties to foreclosure. However, if the Deans needed a positive cash flow from those properties to live on and they weren’t getting it, then that could be the problem. However, given that their own residence is in foreclosure and that they are losing all of the rental properties at once, this seems to indicate a much deeper problem. My first guess would be mismanagement, but who knows? Where did their money go?
I should note that there is a final judgement on one of the Sanford houses, but the change in ownership hasn’t yet shown up on Seminole County’s website. So, the Deans only own three properties in Seminole County.
I have no sympathy for the Deans, none whatsoever. They helped a murderer. However, their predicament reminds me of this song by Solomon Burke:

The family of a Florida man run over by police has released the video of his death in an attempt to start an independent investigation.
Marlon Brown, 38, of DeLand, was killed when a patrol car ran him over on May 8. He was reportedly running from police after he was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt, ABC News reports. In the video released this week, officer James Harris gets out of the patrol car and tells another responding officer, “I think he’s underneath the f–king car.”
Last week, a grand jury found that there wasn’t enough evidence to criminally prosecute Harris. With the release of the video, Brown’s family hopes to bring Harris to court.
“My children, Marlon’s family — we’re very disappointed,” the victim’s ex-wife, Krystal Brown, told the New York Daily News on Wednesday. “We feel very betrayed by the criminal justice system.”

Xena, now that you have me interested in the “Life and Times of George Zimmerman” before he killed Trayvon Martin, I’ve been trying to look back at what was going on at the Retreat at Twin Lakes in February of 2012. Well, for starters, I have got to tell you that I am absolutely astonished by what has happened to property values in the entire state. I knew that property values tanked in Florida, but I didn’t know how bad it was. Even coastal property has gone down in value significantly in some places. Anyhow, I found that the best way to look at RATL in Sanford is to go back to the articles that were written shortly after Trayvon was killed and before MSM decided to try him in the press and on TV for his own murder. This is an excerpt from an article printed in the Tampa Bay Times on March 24, 2012:

The building of the Retreat at Twin Lakes is a classic Florida story.
Developers saw potential in the sandy acres east of Orlando and determined to turn them into an oasis. They planned a gated subdivision just 10 minutes from downtown — a cloistered community near the interstate, close to good schools, outlet malls and the magic of Disney World.
The idea, as always, was that people could live peacefully in a paradise where nobody could park a car on the street or paint the house an odd color.
In 2004, Engle Homes began construction on 263 two-story townhouses, with upstairs porches and covered back patios and plenty of green space. Inside, the townhomes boasted granite countertops, hardwood floors, master suites and walk-in closets. Outside, there was a pond, a clubhouse and a community pool.
Everything was walled in, to keep out the unknown.
“With its modern Florida architecture, this secluded, gated community is like living in a resort,” a spokes model says in a promotional video posted on YouTube. “It’s the perfect choice for those looking for space and comfort.”
The initial cost of a 1,400-square-foot townhome and the pass code to that front gate: $250,000. Today, post-boom, the price has dipped below $100,000.

The developers had envisioned a stable neighborhood with homeowners planting long-term roots, but now townhouses were turning over all the time. Insiders moved out. Outsiders moved in.
By the time Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin, 40 properties inside the gate were empty and more than half of the residents were renters.
Including Brandy Green, who was dating Martin’s dad. And Zimmerman himself.
Trayvon Martin lived with his dad, who resides in the Miami area, and had visited his dad’s girlfriend at the Retreat several times before. The kids in the neighborhood always looked forward to playing football with him. But to George Zimmerman, he was a stranger.

So, after completion, RATL has 263 units. Based on what I have seen on local realtors’ websites, RATL was built mostly in 2006 and 2007 which would have been the absolute peak of the real estate boom. I am kind of amazed that people would have paid $250K for a 1,400 square foot townhome with a one car garage and located in a non-coastal city in the innards of Florida. Recent real estate listings show the HOA fee to be $181 per month which is not cheap for what they seem to have in amenities.
I looked at the property of Francis Taaffe on Seminole County’s website and he apparently paid the builder $241,500 in July of 2006 and borrowed $229,406 of that amount. His 2013 assessed value is $84,242 and the market value, according to the assessor, is $84,573. The property would likely sell for more than that, but not much. The 2013 values are very close to the 2012 values but slightly down.
So, by 2012, original owners at Twin Lakes had lost somewhere around 65% of the value of their homes if they bought in that 2006-2007 timeframe. Half of the community was now rentals because owners couldn’t sell their property for anything close to what they paid. And 40 homes were vacant. You can just bet that Taaffe and his associates were livid about black people moving in.
I thought it was interesting that the article mentioned that Trayvon had friends there from previous visits who played football with him. And, of course, we have our doubts about Zimmerman not knowing who he was before February 26.

TY, Yahtc. I should add that George Zimmerman started renting at RATL sometime in 2009. Xena would know exactly when. But, by 2012 he certainly had been there long enough to know the lay of the land and how he could take advantage of what was going on there if he were so inclined.
As a matter of interest, here are some current listings for RATL on a Boca Raton realtor’s website. You can see how badly their property values got hit by the recession and that they are certainly not recovering very well. This has nothing to do with Trayvon Martin being murdered there. I checked some property values in west Jacksonville where my family lives and it is just as bad. My sister has a house in west Jax that has a market value of $40K less than she paid for it in 1989. Yeah, 1989.

Last year, I read a story about how some investors bought townhouses in R@TL as rental property, but it appeared that they applied as Section 8 providers. With Section 8, those receiving vouchers must have income. Taaffe was opposed to Section 8 tenants. Section 8 tenants have jobs or are disabled. They might pay anything from a small portion of the rent, up to 50 percent (if the County Housing Authority uses that standard).
It appears that Taaffe assumed that all residents of color in R@TL are Section 8 renters, but took no notice that the Zimmermans were also renters, and renters who could not afford to pay their rent.
Xena, That is interesting about the Section 8 housing. Well, I am not surprised because when property values plummet to this level the investors come out in droves. In fact, they play a major role in stabilizing the property values because they increase demand and buy up the existing inventory. Then regular buyers get back in the market because prices are going up. However, RATL got hit very hard because the homes were built at the peak of the real estate boom and you can just imagine that many of those homeowners had adjustable rate mortgages that they could not afford after the teaser rate expired. People bought in thinking that the property values would continue to rise and they could sell their home in two or three years and make money, enough to put down on a bigger, better place. Instead, the bottom fell out.
In my own HOA, most of the people who got into financial trouble were the ones who bought in 2005 – 2006. I would imagine that the original owners at RATL, the ones who were still around in 2012, were very upset about their financial predicament.

Not far from where I live is a town that built like crazy around 2003. They built gorgeous single family homes for around $150K, condo units for $100K, and townhouse units for around $125K. I knew the main realtor/investors and told them that the immigration from the Chicago suburbs to that area was ending, explaining that since it started in the late 1990’s, that people experiencing job turnover learned a harsh lesson. They were considered “outsiders” by local employers who would not hire them. While they commuted 50 miles to work for years, they found that potential employers who were not local questioned the distance.
It had nothing to do with lack of experience but rather, where they lived. And, if I might point out, the “immigrants” were 99 percent White. Also, while there was a great influx of young families from the Chicago suburbs, the area was still in the mindset of farming and country, as in country music, country clothing. What appealed to the “immigrants” was having a $150K house that in the suburbs, would cost them $300K or more. Those families really weren’t concerned with selling later. They were planting roots, but the locals had their way of conveying rejection unless the “immigrants” were spending money.
Because of the population increase, there were arguments about raising property taxes for new schools, water systems, etc. The farmers didn’t want to pay for what they saw as conditions caused by “outsiders,” and the “immigrants” didn’t want their real estate taxes increased because, one of the attractions to the area was low real estate taxes.
With companies closing, and not finding local employment, houses foreclosed like crazy, and those newly built houses sat vacant. The people I knew who were the catalyst behind the new construction owned about 3 houses that they rented, and one townhouse unit. Between 2009 and 2010, all foreclosed, including their own residence. They ended up moving in with family in Michigan. They are not young people. The husband, who worked in obtaining mortgages, was old enough for social security retirement. The wife was a realtor and I think she qualifies for SS retirement in several years. IOWs, they are not of an age to start new careers.
When I read your excellent research about R@TL, I got a similar impression that what happened there is what happened not far from me. It was a community that attracted “outsiders” but “outsiders” are not welcomed. It’s one thing to have employment and come home to peace, but when you are not welcomed in the community where you live, it can become an inconvenient social lifestyle with having to commute where you are welcomed.
That’s an interesting story, Xena, and I think it makes an excellent point about the visions of developers, city councils, etc… versus reality with respect to these “planned” communities.
Shellie (along with her lawyer) better slow down and stop pressuring George because he’s going to explode all over her and any innocent bystanders.
The Donnelys have already very publically distanced themselves from Piglet–saying that he’s a ticking timebomb and that has to heart Piglet because he claimed that Donnely was the father that he never had on a picture he autographed for him ( I guess Piglet fancies himself a celebrity).
Shellie is a double liability to Piglet. Not only does she know everything that happened the night of the murder and could flip on him at any moment and go to the Feds, but she is also sucking up Piglet’s shrinking money supply.
By revealing small details about the night of the shooting in interviews Shellie seems to be letting Piglet know she won’t hesitate to snitch on him, but she better be careful because we know that Piglet still has rabid fans who would eliminate her as a threat.
The best thing for Shellie is tell the Feds what she knows ( unless spousal privilege prevents her from doing so) and enter the Witness Protection program asap and stop making a public spectacle of her divorce.
I don’t see this ending well because Piglet is isolated now except for his new sidepiece. His main enabler (Shellie) is severing ties with him and his only family has disowned him so he has little left.

Welp, when you fool with trash, it will get in your eyes, and sometimes it will blind you. In Shellies case, it blinded her to the point that she gained her own personal mugshot, a probation term, and police record. Yep, she was willing to stand by her man, but her man wasn’t willing to stand by her. Symbolically, he spit in her parents face and bit the hand that put a roof over his head.
George likes to live large on other people’s money. That does not surprise me at all about that piece of trash.
I pray that Shellie tells everything she knows on George, his daddy, his lying azz uncle, his brother, Mom and West. I pray that she exposes and tells the truth about George killing Trayvon. In addition, I pray that Attorney Willie Gary leaves no stone unturned and that it stirs up a thorough, unbiases, and honest investigation from the DOJ that will cause a domino effect and punish all who were involved in setting George free, so that Trayvon’s spirit can rest in peace, real justice is served, and Trayvon’s name and reputation are cleared.
Based on what I saw in the video, Shellie’s lawyer is fed up with George Zimmerman and seems to be one step away from saying what all of us already know, and it is that GZ killed Trayvon Martin in cold-blood that February night in 2012. I’ve always been sure that GZ didn’t have to kill TM, and that he did it because he figured he could get away with it, and he did. The problem for him is that he has a history of getting into trouble and continues to do so. It’s only a matter of time before he does something and won’t be able to escape spending some time in prison. Freakout Nation reported this morning that Shellie Zimmerman is ready to move ahead with the divorce proceedings but GZ is nowhere to be found. Someone on the site mentioned that he might be in Leith, North Dakota where the white supremacists were supposed to hold a town hall yesterday. If it so happens that he did go to Leith, ND, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Truly, I did not research and write this to disparage Shellie’s parents. It looks as if they had a business renting houses and then something went wrong. Back around April last year when Zimmerman took off for Maryland, Papa and Mama Zim gave George $3,500, and Shellie’s mom gave her a check for $1,000. The bank records provide that they paid back Papa and Mama Zim, but not Shellie’s mom. Looking at them as people, they were dealing with the foreclosures and made a sacrifice to help their daughter whose husband left her behind in Florida while he went on the run into Maryland.
After George squandered money on extended stay hotels and used AIS and got into over $20K in debt with them, Shellie’s parents rented them a house.
Papa and Mama Zim went to the media crying the blues about living from hotel to hotel, using credit cards, etc. We didn’t hear a word from the Deans about their problems. Now, George left Shellie with a bit over $4,000 and he is now hiding/avoiding her. He has a defense fund. The Osterman’s are suppose to have proceeds from their book deposited in a fund for George. His parents have retirement income, while Shellie’s parents who provided a roof over George’s head are not in a position to financially help her.
When we look at the broader picture, we see the “real” George Zimmerman. He’s a user, con-artist, and toxic.
All of those complicit in setting a child murderer go free are experiencing a domino effect and Georgie is helping it come to pass being the selfish psychopath kinda guy he is. Welp, I wonder how long before we hear about the next episode of wreckless behavior and his outburst of violent temper antics. Maybe, next his temper will be aimed at MOM and that jerk West for asking to be paid.

Excuse all my errors this morning, but I have a lot on my mind at the present.
Well, I’ll say. The video shows that Shellie was telling the truth for once. It just shows that George is who we all know he is, but that those women jurist, D.A., judge, the police, and some folks in the media chose to ignore and gave him a slap on the wrist and set free. I wonder how they feel about him now, knowing that they set a child murderer free. George is a lying snake in the grass and thinks he is above the law because his daddy, brother, and lying uncle will come to his rescue, they’ve given him a license to disobey the law and murder again if he feels like. After all, why should obey the laws that common ordinary folks have to obey, if time and time again he is allowed to get away with his crimes.
I’m sorry, but I cannot muster up any feelings of being sorry for Shellie because she stood by George knowing what type of person he was and that he killed a child. All I can say is Karma is something else, he was instrumental and the root cause of her having a police record. Therefore, she thought it was okay when he killed a “innocent black boy”, but now that George has committed violence on her father and threaten him and her it’s a different story. Okie dokie.
