Happy Sunday, Everyone! Hope you’re having a Blessed day.

Tonight the Golden Globe Awards show will be aired on CBS. In honor of film, here are two of my all time favorite foreign films. You’ll never regret seeing them, I GUARANTEE.

    *After the news of Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon‘s marriage had made the headlines, the bride said Grandma Cissy Houston gave them their blessing.

    When we first heard that we though two things: either Cissy finally stopped objecting and and went along with the program or somebody is telling a big fib.

    Well, now we know it’s the latter. When TMZ came across Bobbi K and Nick the day after they announced their wedding, they said Cissy was down with it.

    The couple also claimed they attended a Sweet 16 soiree and that’s where Cissy gave her thumbs up.

    Houston family snitches, err, sources, say they were at the same party and neither BK nor Nick ever asked Cissy for her approval, reports TMZ.

    In fact it’s just the opposite the sources says. Houston was highly upset when she found out the two tied the knot last week, but realized there’s nothing she could do it about it.

    This past weekend, the Bureau of Prisons held its first ever
    Universal Children’s Day, a visiting event for inmates and their
    families.[….] With more than 123,000 federal inmates who have children under the age of twenty-one, BOP is committed to giving inmates opportunities to enhance their relationship with their children and their role as parents. There is no substitute for looking your children in the eye and letting them know you care about them. I was pleased by the large number of children that were able to visit with their incarcerated parents.

    Nearly 8,500 children visited more than 4,000 federal inmates during this special weekend. Our institutions across the country collaborated with their local communities to make the event a tremendous success and many featured activities such as storytelling, face painting, parenting workshops, family worship services and holiday-themed arts and crafts.[….] For some inmates this was the first time they read a book to their child or drew a picture together. My hope is that this is just the beginning, for many mothers and fathers, of a sustained journey back into the lives of their children and their roles as parents.[…]

    House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is often seen as the real hand of power among House Republicans in Congress. If it’s a choice between Cantor and Speaker John Boehner, the Tea Party caucus would rather follow Cantor. That may be true in the House, but the Tea Party itself would love nothing more than to replace Eric Cantor in 2014.
    The Tea Party intends to challenge Eric Cantor in a primary with their strongest candidate yet.

    Apparently, Eric Cantor isn’t an insane enough of a conservative for the Tea Party. That why they intend to run a candidate against him in a primary this year in Virginia. David Brat, an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College, seeks to unseat the long-time Virginia congressman.

    “I want to be Eric Cantor’s term-limit,” Brat told the National Review. Adding weight to his candidacy, Brat has been meeting with some “big as they get” right-wing groups about supporting his campaign financially. If he manages to get such funding, Brat could be the biggest threat to Cantor’s career yet. “I think it’s safe to say it will definitely rattle some cages when it comes out,” Brat says of the potential donors. But why do the Tea Party and David Brat want to kick Cantor out of the House?

    Report: Iran says all sides agree to nuclear deal
    By NASSER KARIMI — Jan. 12, 2014 11:29 AM EST

    TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran and six world powers have agreed on how to implement a nuclear deal struck in November, with its terms starting
    from Jan. 20, the Islamic Republic’s official state news agency reported Sunday.

    …Under the November agreement, Iran agreed to limit its uranium
    enrichment to 5 percent — the grade commonly used to power reactors. The deal also commits Iran to stop producing 20 percent enriched uranium — which is only a technical step away from weapons-grade material — and to neutralize its 20 percent stockpile.

    In exchange, economic sanctions Iran faces would be eased for a
    period of six months. During that time, the world powers — Britain,
    China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States — would continue negotiations with Iran on a permanent deal.

      When people say there would be no difference between a President Obama and a President Clinton, I bring up the following:

      1. There would be NO ACA under President Clinton.
      2. We would have gone into Libya under President Clinton.
      3. We would have gone into Syria under President Clinton.
      4. Osama Bin Laden would still be chilling in Pakistan.
      5. We’d be on our way to war with Iran under President Clinton.

      No difference my ass.

    “HORACE:The Bridge Builder King” is an hour long documentary about a freed slave in the 1800s named Horace King. His Master, John Godwin always treated Horace as a partner or as an equal in all of their business dealings. He was well known around the south for constructing town lattice truss covered bridges. He was in the bridging building business from around 1820 until around 1885. Born in Cheraw District of South Carolina a slave. The Alabama Legislature freed Horace King on Feb 3, 1846 by an Act of the Legislature in order to keep his talents in Alabama. Horace built gun boats for the Confederate Navy during the Civil War and is likely, the only slave ever to have erected a moment on a master’s grave. Horace did just that in 1859 and the monument is still located at the Godwin Cemetary in Phenix City, Alabama.

    Tim Wise says this in one of his answers:

    I admit that AS IS TRUE WITH ANY WHITE PERSON raised in a racist/white supremacist society, I have internalized certain racist and white supremacist thoughts/beliefs/norms, etc.

    But the fact that I have been conditioned to do thing x, or believe thing y, doesn’t mean that I can’t challenge that conditioning and choose to do thing z, or believe thing q.

    I also insist, for myself and others, that although we have internalized white supremacy, this does not mean that all we are capable of is white supremacy. People are not one-dimensional.

    Just as we are all conditioned in this society to be consumers, and tend to engage in consumerism to one degree or another, it is also the case that we can choose to fight consumerism and materialism, and minimize the extent to which we practice it.

    Or as men, we’re conditioned to be sexist towards women under a patriarchal system, but we can choose to fight for gender equity and to challenge male domination. People have moral agency and are not mere robots, unable to turn against that which we are taught.

      Also, let’s think of everyday idioms in use that are racist or would be considered racist if used when talking with a non-White person.

      I remember, when I was young and was whining out some excuse for not wanting to do something, that my mom would basically discredit my whining excuse, by saying “you poor dear” or “you poor thing”. In that context, as a child I never thought of “poor” as meaning economic status. For me, when my mom said it to me, it just had the meaning of “Give up. Now go do what I asked you to do.” It was equivalent to when people use the gesture of playing the sad violin.

      But, don’t you think that saying “you poor dear” or “you poor thing” can be taken negatively by a receiver of those words?

        So, if this use of the phrase “poor dear” or “poor thing”happened to be used toward a person of any race who was impoverished, it would be very offensive to the receiver.
