Serendipity SOUL-Friday Open Thread

Happy Friday, One and All!  Have an Amazing day.

Let’s get down to the HEART Of  The MATTER.

From the wiki:

India.Arie (born India Arie Simpson; October 3, 1975) is an American soul, R&B, and neo soul singer-songwriter, record producer, guitarist, and flutist.

Simpson was born in Denver, Colorado. She absorbed musical skills early in life as she was encouraged by both parents. Her mother Joyce is a former singer (she was signed to Motown as a teenager and opened for Stevie Wonder and Al Green)[1] and is now her stylist. Her father is former ABA and NBA basketball player Ralph Simpson. She has an older brother named J’On. After her parents divorced, Simpson’s mother moved the family to Atlanta, Georgia when she was thirteen [2]. Simpson had taken up a succession of musical instruments throughout her schooling in Denver, but her interest in the guitar while attending the Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah, led to a personal revelation about songwriting and performing. “When I started tapping into my own sensitivity, I started to understand people better. It was a direct result of writing songs”, she said at the press release of her debut album, Acoustic Soul.

Co-founding the Atlanta-based independent music collective Groovement EarthShare (Groovement was the collective artists’ name and EarthShare was their independent label name), her one-song turn on a locally-released compilation led to a second-stage gig at the 1998 Lilith Fair. In 1999, a Universal/Motown music scout spotted her and made an introduction to former Motown CEO Kedar Massenberg. Arie currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

    Obama goes book shopping
    By Scott Wilson
VINEYARD HAVEN, Mass. — The first trip out from Blue Heron Farm was to Bunch of Grapes, a book store tucked among the quaint shops on Main Street.
President Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia, just back from a month at camp, motorcaded from their bayside home for a little morning browsing. Obama had yet to pick his reading list when he arrived Thursday for this beach vacation, and Bunch of Grapes seemed like the spot to fill it out.
His purchases? John Steinbeck’s “The Red Pony” and Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird.” And for him: “Freedom,” the new novel by Jonathan Franzen.

Franklin Graham: ‘President’s Problem Is That He Was Born A Muslim’ (VIDEO)

    http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/08/franklin-graham-i-think-the-presidents-problem-is-that-he-was-born-a-muslim-video.php?ref=fpa

Franklin Graham, the Christian evangelist and son of Billy Graham, offered an explanation for the suspicions that some people have about President Obama’s religion, during an appearance Thursday night on CNN.

“I think the president’s problem is that he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim. The seed of Islam is passed through the father like the seed of Judaism is passed through the mother. He was born a Muslim, his father gave him an Islamic name,” Graham told John King. “Now it’s obvious that the president has renounced the prophet Mohammed and he has renounced Islam and he has accepted Jesus Christ. That’s what he says he has done, I cannot say that he hasn’t. So I just have to believe that the president is what he has said.”

For the record, Obama’s father was Barack Hussein Obama, who gave the future president his own name. President Obama has written that his father, who he rarely ever saw, was raised a Muslim but was in practice an atheist.

Well, Franklin Graham carries the seed of racism & bigotry from the klan.

    • reticulator says:

Someone needs to put Graham on blast for this friggin lie!!

Ain’t no one in America born into no damn RELIGION!!

      Arrrrgh!!!

      • SouthernGirl2 says:

What a bigot! He’s a faker. Not everyone who cries ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven! That means you, Franklin Graham! And that’s why there will be the separating of the sheep from the goats.

What did Christ say was the greatest commandment? “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” The second is like unto it…”Love your neighbor as yourself”.

      • "Ametia" says:

BTW, the MSM thinnk they’re slick pulling out Billy Graham’s racist son to be their mouth piece for Christians.

See, some white folks have their own beliefs & definitions of how, when, and where they practice heir Christianity.

      • SouthernGirl2 says:

CNN chose Franklin Graham knowing he was booted from the National Day of Prayer event at the Pentagon for saying Islam was an evil & wicked religion. I see you, CNN & John King!

    • "Ametia" says:

Aint that the most ignorant shit you’ve ever heard?

First off religions are organized, and folks make a choice as to whether they want to join the organization and ahere to their doctrine/precepts/rules, etc. That’s religion 101.

It is the daily application of said precepts that showcase one’s spiritual maturity, and Franklin Graham lacks spiritual maturity.

      • SouthernGirl2 says:

There is freedom of religion in this country. We can choose to worship whomever or whatever we please or not worship at all. To give the perception that being Muslim is a bad thing is grossly despicable & very unChristian.

      • "Ametia" says:

So true, SG2. to give the impression that anyone who isn’t Christian PERIOD is very unChristian.

Tolerance is a virture; or does that not count for white Christian males.

      • "Ametia" says:

Dyson is breaking it down on Countdown.

      • SouthernGirl2 says:

I saw Dyson. He did good.

WTF is up with CNN asking someone like Franklin Graham to speak on whether the President is a Muslim or not?

        CNN =No good mofos

    • "Ametia" says:

Remember these folks are more than likely Republicans. and we know the Republicans are the party of NO IDEAS, NO MORALS, NO! NO! NO!

So they are going after the President by using race, religion and any other cheap shit they can to bring him down.

Because what else do these white old men have to offer America? Nothing but their whiteness and money-hungry power which they earned through the enslavement of other fellow Americans, cheating, robbing, maiming, killing, all in the name of whiteness. If you take the money & power away, all they have is their whiteness

    President Obama’s winning streak

    By Eugene Robinson

This is a radical break from journalistic convention, I realize, but today I’d like to give credit where it’s due — specifically, to President Obama. Quiet as it’s kept, he’s on a genuine winning streak.

    LET THAT SENTENCE MARINATE.

Franklin Graham can go stick his head in a gas oven.

And to even utter that it’s a problem to be a MUSLIM, is disgraceful and very, very, very unCHRISTIAN-LIKE wouldn’t you say, Frankie?

Franklin Graham and his white bretheren all want to say, the problem with President Barack Hussein Obama is that he’s BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it is eating them up to their racist, bigoted core.

      • SouthernGirl2 says:

Nailed it! I’m tired of the scary Muslim meme. Their bigotry is on full display for everyone to see. I see them.

Daily Kos Demographics: White. Over 50. Well-off. Male.

    http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/8/20/893868/-Daily-Kos-Demographics:-White.-Over-50.-Well-off.-Male

Not a day passes here without some outrage over the Democratic “betrayal of the base” or “true progressives”.

Not a day passes here without some vitriolic critique of President Obama and a host of elected Democratics for perceived inaction and yes action too, action that was too slow too fast too little too late.

Not a day passes here without some premature schaedenfreue over the losses Democrats may suffer in Novemeber.

Not a day passes here without some needless niggling debate over the meaning of racism or sexism or heterosexism or classism.

Not a day passes here that I don’t shake my head in utter amazement at some segment of this so-called “reality-based community” that is allegedly dedicated to electing “more and better Democratics”.

How are the views represented here at such odds with those held by the communitites I am a part of here and in real life???

And then, because I am a sociologist, there is not a day here where I do not remind myself of Daily Kos audience Demographics and the overwhelmingly preponderance of White. Over 50. Well-off. Male.

    ~excerpt~

The Daily Kos audience demographic is not the past of the Democratic Party. It is not the present of the Democratic Party and it is certainly not the future of the Democratic Party.

Daily Kos is NOT the base.

Daily Kos is NOT the progressive vanguard of the left wing.

Daily Kos is White. Over 50. Well-off. Male.

It is time and long past time for other voices — Black Brown Young Female – to be afforded more credence in evaluating policies and current political trends, to be better represented, and yes to be actually heard here.

It is time to bring on The Base.

Electing more and better Democrats requires nothing less.

    Represent or become irrelevant.

Thanks for checking out the West Wing Week, your guide to everything that’s happening at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. This week, travel with the First Family to Panama City Beach, Florida for a weekend of swimming, mini-golf, and meeting with local business owners. Next up, the President hits the road travelling to Milwaukee, Seattle and Columbus to talk to business owners and families about the economy

I get this via weekly email. Good stuff.

    • "Ametia" says:

The diarist is spot on. I never could figure out that site for posting comments. It’s seems a bit convoluted. But it does not surprise me in the least about the breakdown in demographics of these liberal blogs.

White, male, over 50, oh yeah. Lots of LOVE for the black president…. /snark.

We have to keep reminding these folks that we know who is the true base of the Democratic party. We just don’t have to show our asses like the teabagging, rabid base of the Republican Party.

Just don’t underestimate our power as a voter. Democrats cannot win a presidential election WITHOUT the Black vote, and Barack Obama could not have won the election without the Black & white voters.

    The Palin Twitter Backlash

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-08-20/sarah-palins-dr-laura-tweet-black-republicans-react/?om_rid=NIgi4L&om_mid=_BMbnfgB8S9m$$Q&

Black Republicans tell John Avlon that Sarah Palin’s tweet in defense of Dr. Laura was ridiculous and indefensible—and that she may be “no longer fit to lead.”

Sarah Palin’s post-VP nominee career has so far benefitted from bomb-throwing. The process follows a tight script—a crude, semi-calculated comment is shot into the middle of a political debate via Facebook or Twitter. It gains national attention. Liberals are outraged. Conservatives rush to her defense. Sarah Palin dominates a news cycle and becomes more beloved by her base.

But by unnecessarily rushing to the defense of Dr. Laura Schlessinger—after she dropped the N-bomb 11 times and told the caller “don’t marry outside of your race”—Sarah Palin might finally have gone too far and picked a fight she cannot win.

Palin is “trying to shock us each day with more and more outlandish commentary,” said one black conservative. “And at that moment that person is no longer fit to lead.”

Palin has never been fit to lead. John McCain put the country at risk with an empty head, nothing in the skull but empty fluid as his VP candidate.

  10. reticulator says:

What is wrong with the time stamp on these comments?

  11. reticulator says:

Did anyone else notice in this interview, how white folks are not getting that Jade was offended by comments which the whites do not consider racist? Notice how LS completely rejects her examples as racist or offensive and how the interviewer does the same by asking, does it ever get more offensive than that?

White folks just don’t get that she is saying ‘asking me are black folks this way, or do black folks do such and such” is RACIST!

White folks are listening for a derogatory slur. Jade is saying you do not have to do that for it to be racially offensive.

She is pushing back on the ordinary racism that black folks deal with daily that whites do not consider racist!!

Which is how LS gets to the nigger rant….THAT is what whites consider racist…not the daily racist shyt blacks deal with daily.

If there is an interviewer that gets that, like Whoopee on THE VIEW or OPRAH…

THEN we are going to have the real deal conversation….cause right now white folks ain’t gettin it!!!

  12. SouthernGirl2 says:

Well I’ll be got damn…..Armstrong Williams is on MSNBC defending Sarah Palin’s encouragement of Dr Laura. Mofo black ass coon.

    • "Ametia" says:

Yes, I got that too, Recticulator. White folks want to be the purveyor of what is racist or nonracist. That’s like the rapist telling the victim, it wasn’t rape!

I want to see Jade on The View with Whoopie and nem. I want her to work the livin shit outta these white folks, especially that Elizabeth Hassleback!

Obama keeping public expressions of religion to a minimum
    By Michael D. Shear
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Friday, August 20, 2010

As he flew aboard Air Force One to Chicago on his 49th birthday earlier this month, President Obama dialed three Christian pastors to pray with him.

On an airborne conference call, he kidded with the religious leaders about being abandoned by his wife and daughters, who were away on vacation and at camp. As he celebrated his birthday, he was in a reflective mood. He told them he wanted to pray about the year that had passed, what’s really important in life and the challenges ahead.

“That was simply something that he wanted to do at his initiative because it was important to him,” said Joel Hunter, an evangelical pastor who was on the call and who is part of a small circle of spiritual advisers who frequently talk to Obama by phone.

The prayer session, which was not publicized and which neither the White House nor the ministers sought to bring to light, reflects Obama’s decision to keep his public expressions of religious faith to a minimum. Hunter said the president often reaches out to pastors for private spiritual conversation.

      Happy Fry-day! :)

    • "Ametia" says:

Yes siree, Dr. Laura showed her TRUE COLORS to Jade last week. Imagine listening to someone for over a decade, and then getting slammed on the radio with nigger, nigger, nigger! Jade was a fan of Dr. L. LOL Not any more….

      • SouthernGirl2 says:

Dr Laura’s been wanting to say the word out loud so the world could hear it because she like many others are freaked all the way out because a black man is sitting in the White House. She found an opportunity with Jade and took it. Wrinkled faced bitch.

      • "Ametia" says:

Now she’s hollering about her 1st amendment rights! No one’s responsible for what comes outta Dr. Laura’s TRAP but her. She fucked up chanting nigger 11 times, and now she wants to point the finger at msm, lefties, Jade, blacks, everyone accept herself. Good riddance!

But don’t be surprised when she returns to radio. Folks like her always return to the scene of their crimes for more rewards.

      • Jennifer says:

No kidding. She’s always been a horrible, nasty woman, but that one floored even me. How in the hell does anyone think that’s allowable. Nasty weather out there.

      • SouthernGirl2 says:

Dr Laura gave an interview on CNN and she is not sorry about what happened & she is not taking responsibility for anything. She sees no wrong in what was said and lays blame on everyone else but herself. The only thing that concerns her is that critics are trying to silence her and her 1st amendment rights. She wants to be free to say “nigger” whenever she feels like it.
