Earth, Wind & Fire is an American R&B and disco band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1969 by Verdine and Maurice White. Also known as EWF, the band has won six Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards. They have been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.[1][2] Rolling Stone has described them as “innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing” and has also declared that the band “changed the sound of black pop”.[3] In 1998, they were ranked at number 60 on VH1‘s list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Rock N’ Roll.[4]
The band’s music contains elements of African, Latin American, funk, soul, pop and rock music, jazz and other genres. The band is known for the dynamic sound of their horn section, and the interplay between the contrasting vocals of Philip Bailey‘s falsetto and Maurice White’s tenor.[5] The kalimba (African thumb piano) is played on all of the band’s albums.[6]

AFL-CIO president to Sarah Palin: Change or be linked with McCarthyism
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka charged that if Republican political star Sarah Palin is not more careful in her choice of words
By Dave Cook, Staff writer / September 2, 2010
Washington
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka charged Thursday that if Republican political star Sarah Palin is not more careful in her choice of words, the political movement she has helped to create will be linked with McCarthyism, the 1950s-era crusade by Sen. Joseph McCarthy to brand political enemies as communists.
Mr. Trumka’s comments about his strained relations with Ms. Palin came at a Monitor-sponsored breakfast for reporters, where he was asked how his previous critical words about the 2008 GOP vice-presidential nominee squared with his call for union members to save their anger for “corporate lapdogs” and Senate Republicans.

Judge removes ‘birther’ elements from Army doc’s court martialBy the CNN Wire Staff
September 2, 2010 6:18 p.m. EDT
(CNN) — A judge on Thursday denied a request for President Barack Obama to testify at a court martial for a U.S. Army flight surgeon who refused to deploy to Afghanistan until he saw proof that Obama was born in the United States.
The judge, Army Col. Denise Lind, said any evidence or witnesses related to Obama’s citizenship is irrelevant to the charges against Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, who has 17 years of service in the U.S. military.
After failing to deploy with his unit in April, Lakin was charged with missing a movement, disobeying a lawful order and dereliction of duty.
The Uniform Code of Military Justice says the maximum punishment for both offenses — missing his plane and disobeying lawful orders — is a dishonorable discharge and up to two years in confinement. A guilty verdict could also result in forfeiture of Lakin’s pay, which totals $7,959 a month, according to a charge sheet provided by a group sponsoring his defense.
Lakin’s lawyers argued that all military orders stem from the commander-in-chief. Without evidence that Obama is eligible to be president, they say, the doctor’s deployment order was illegal.

Vanity Fair’s Sarah Palin Profiler: ‘The Worst Stuff Isn’t Even In There’
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/02/vanity-fairs-sarah-palin-_n_703412.html
The author of the blistering Vanity Fair profile on Sarah Palin says he wanted to write a positive piece, but was shocked by what he learned as he researched his story.
“The worst stuff isn’t even in there,” Michael Joseph Gross said on “Morning Joe” Thursday. “I couldn’t believe these stories either when I first heard them, and I started this story with a prejudice in her favor. I have a lot in common with this woman. I’m a small-town person, I’m a Christian, I think that a lot of her criticisms of the media actually have something to them. And I think she got a bum ride, but everybody close to her tells the same story.”
In the profile, Gross paints Palin as an abusive, retaliatory figure with an extreme ability to lie.
“This is a person for whom there is no topic too small to lie about,” he said. “She lies about everything.”
Asked about Palin’s political future, Gross said it depends on what the media lets her get away with.
Palin, liar, liar, pants on fire!
Is Glenn Beck’s rise good for Mormonism?
By Felicia Sonmez

Like conservative commentator Glenn Beck, Stephen Owens is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His in-laws traveled from Utah to Washington last weekend to join Beck’s rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
Owens himself, however, said he has always “kind of rolled my eyes” at Beck’s outspoken views.
And when the 42-year-old Salt Lake City lawyer read that Beck publicly questioned President Obama’s “version of Christianity” the day after the Washington rally, he was so angry he penned a letter to the local newspaper.
“I think it’s arrogant of anyone to say whether someone is a Christian or not,” said Owens, 42. “My view of that is, if someone says, ‘I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ,’ then they’re Christian, and who am I to say, ‘No, you’re not,’ let alone [to] the president of our country? I was offended at that.”
Owens’s comments speak to the mixed reviews that Beck’s higher profile has received among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some view Beck’s rise as a sign of Mormonism going mainstream, while others worry that he is a divisive figure who is unrepresentative of Mormon values.

Joseph Cao: ‘I love the president’
In an interview with the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Rep. Joseph Cao (R-La.) makes an odd statement for a Republican.
On a personal level, Cao said, “I love the president, and I believe he truly likes me.” Cao said he’s visited the White House about 10 times — not counting the Superbowl party that he missed because of snow — and earned an audience in the Oval Office during the health care debate’s end stages. He said he appreciated that Obama never asked him to betray his conscience on abortion, just to “revisit the language” and see whether he could support the measure.
Of course, Cao is a Republican in an overwhelmingly Democratic district — one he won only because of former Rep. William Jefferson’s numerous scandals. Some say he’s the most vulnerable Republican incumbent. He was the only Republican to vote for the House’s original health-care bill (though he voted against the final legislation). He’s also backed financial reform and a repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.”
“Half of my team are Democrats,” he said recently.

Breaking News Alert: Obama’s economic team considering new stimulus package September 2, 2010 5:21:18 PM
—————————————-
With the recovery faltering less than two months before the November congressional elections, President Obama’s economic team is considering another big dose of stimulus in the form of tax breaks for businesses — potentially worth hundreds of billions of dollars, according to two people familiar with the talks. Among the options are a temporary payroll tax holiday and a permanent extension of the research and development tax credit, say people familiar with the talks.

Man in Letterman blackmail plot freed from NY jail
By JENNIFER PELTZ
NEW YORK — The former television producer who tried to blackmail David Letterman was freed Thursday after four months in jail for a plot that put a spotlight on the comic icon’s office affairs, city Correction Department records show.
Robert “Joe” Halderman got time off for good behavior from his six-month term at the Rikers Island jail complex, but he isn’t done with his sentence: He still has to complete 1,000 hours of community service, and he’ll be on probation for five years.
“He survived this, and he’s glad to be getting off the island,” his lawyer, Gerald Shargel, said Wednesday.
The former CBS “48 Hours” producer — who’s up for a News and Documentary Emmy award this year — is looking for work, Shargel added.
Halderman, 52, pleaded guilty earlier this spring to attempted grand larceny. He admitted he demanded $2 million in hush money last fall to keep from revealing personal information about Letterman, presenting his threat in a somewhat colorful form: as an outline for a thinly veiled screenplay about the “Late Show” host being ruined by disclosures about his personal life.

Sean Bell’s Widow May Run for Queens City Council
http://colorlines.com/archives/2010/09/word_on_the_street_sean_bells_widow_may_run_for_qns_city_council.html
Word is circulating that Nicole Paultre-Bell, the widow to police shooting victim Sean Bell, may run for the newly vacated Queens City Council seat.
Although nothing has been confirmed, the New York Daily News reports that Paultre-Bell’s lawyer said his client plans to pay her respects to former Councilman Thomas White, whose death left one of the boroughs city council seats vacant.
Politico reported on Wednesday night that Paultre-Bell is being asked to run by members of her Queens community, which, like the nation, was left shaken after her partner Sean Bell was killed in a hail of bullets by New York police officers the night before his wedding.

That’s right folks, all Obama has to do is pick a church, attend it, and all the hatemongering and Islamaphobia will make like Casper the Friendly Ghost!
I have been saying this same thing for the past few weeks. I agree. This is a problem he doesnt have to have. SG2, we’ll see who wins that nickel bet. LOL!
Alright now! I’ll take your nickel. Better watch yourself!
All 3 of them need to be taken to the woodshed for that cocka mania bullsh&t.
I’m still holding out to win that bet! This is an issue he does not have to have nor need to have. Take your children to church Mr. President.
Sorry sista, girlfriend, princess, queen, goddess, Vette. PBO aint got to do but 3 things in this life time:
1. Stay black.
2. Pay taxes
3. Die
And like my grandaddy use to say you aint got to pay your taxes, but if you brown, they’ll hunt you down.
Long story short, It aint NOBODY’s business if, when, or where President Obama and his family go to worship. IMO.
Agree to disagree. This is one issue he does not have to have NOR need. One that is easily remedied.
You know what I really think. I think the Obamas are mad at having to leave their church in Chicago after 20 years. Mad at the MSM/Repigs for blowing it up; mad at Wright for being an azz.
So, regardless of who or why they get pushed up on in regards to the religion/chrisianity/church/worship issues, they will stay in WACO (and you know what that means don’t you?).
He got options on #1 that plenty of people wishes that he would take.
Agree to disagree it is! And My President is Black. LOL
Look at this mofo. He got a beatdown at Hooka’s Bar. LOL

This incident is a prime example of folks living with their heads up their ass AKA circa 1960’s.
They’re cowards, pathetic cowards, and have to get drunk to stare down folks who don’t look like’em. He’s luck he got out of that bar alive.

Emails Reveal McCain Campaign Misled The Public About Palin’s $150K Plus Shopping Spree
http://thinkprogress.org/2010/09/01/plain-misled-shopping-spree/#comments
One of the more interesting moments of the 2008 presidential campaign came when Politico revealed that the Republican National Committee had spent over $150,000 on clothes and accessories from luxury stores for Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin and her family. The high-end shopping spree conflicted with Palin’s image of a modest hockey mom. When confronted with the news, a campaign spokesperson replied, “It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.”
But in an online-only companion piece to his big new profile of the former Alaska governor, Vanity Fair’s Michael Gross reports that internal emails and other records reveal that this claim and others about the fate of the clothes were false:
The records of those purchases also reveal that Palin’s later claims—that “we had three days of using clothes that the R.N.C. purchased” (at the Republican National Convention) and that she understood the clothes to have been “loaned to us during the convention”—were completely false. So was the spin of Palin’s campaign spokesperson, who stated on October 22 that “it was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.” On October 23, in a previously unpublished e-mail (quoted below), Palin wrote that she had no idea the clothes would eventually need to be returned, and suggested that she believed the items were being given to her and her family as gifts.
There was at least one other incident in which the campaign misrepresented purchases for Palin. The day before daughter Bristol’s birthday, Palin aides exchanged emails about buying her a birthday present, with one saying they had “picked up a few dress options at saks during the event today.” That staffer charged $1,312.94 at Saks 5th Avenue in Cincinnati the same day. However, that charge was later mislabeled “as if it were made not for Bristol but for the candidate’s appearance on Saturday Night Live. (The memo line reads ‘Clothes-SNL.’).”
John mcCain, why did you do it? Why did you unleash this nightmare on the country?
Yes, Grandpa John, why oh why? LOL
Same reason he’s putting his daughter, Meghan, up to be the latest attack Palin dog, McCain was NEVER for her. His selfish azz just wanted to get elected and he would have made her go sit down and STFU.
But ole girl is not worried about it anymore, she has the bucks to buy whatever clothing she wants. I have to give her credit, she selects and wears them well.
He may not have liked her but if he had won, with his age & medical history, he put the country at risk with that dumb ass woman being a heartbeat away from the presidency. It’s fk frightening to think about.
