Happy Thursday, 3Chics & ALL!

The legend lives on…

From the Wiki:  Otis Ray Redding, Jr. (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was an American soul singer. Often called the “King of Soul”, he is renowned for an ability to convey strong emotion through his voice.[1][2] According to the website of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he was inducted in 1989), Redding’s name is “synonymous with the term soul, music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm and blues into a form of funky, secular testifying.”[3] In addition, rock critic Jon Landau said in 1967, “Otis Redding is rock & roll”.[4] Redding died in a plane crash at the age of 26, one month before his biggest hit, “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay“, was released.

San Bruno Fire: At Least One Dead, Dozens Of Homes Destroyed After Explosion In San Francisco Suburb

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/10/san-bruno-fire-location-explosion_n_711668.html

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — A massive explosion sent flames roaring through a neighborhood in the hills south of San Francisco Thursday, destroying more than 50 homes and leaving at least one person dead.

The utility company that serves the San Francisco Bay area said one of its gas lines ruptured in the vicinity of the blast, which left a giant crater and sent flames tearing across several suburban blocks in San Bruno just after 6 p.m.

“If it is ultimately determined that we were responsible for the cause of the incident, we will take accountability,” Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said in an e-mailed statement.

Flames hot enough to crack a fire engine windshield incinerated 53 homes and damaged 120 as crews continued battling the blaze into the night. At least one person was confirmed dead in the blast, San Bruno Fire Chief Dennis Haag said.

The fire had spread to 10 acres and was 50 percent contained late Thursday, said Jay Allen, spokesman for the California Emergency Management Agency.

My thoughts & prayers for the victims!

Fox News has announced it will not be covering a Florida pastor’s burning of the Islamic holy book, the Quran.

Rev Terry Jones has so far defied international condemnation, and refused to cancel what US president Barack Obama has called a ‘stunt’ that could endanger lives across the world.

“We do not cover every flag burning that happens in this country,” Fox News spokesman Michael Clemente told TVNewser.

“We don’t run every hostage tape. If we tried to cover everyone who wants us to stick a camera in front of them, we’d run out of cameras pretty fast each day.

“But this is really about just using some judgment.”

Fox News often comes under fire from media commentators for a perceived right-wing, pro-US, anti-Muslim bias. Other US networks such as CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS say they will be covering the burning as they would any other news event.

Fox has done the damaged already. Cowards…the lot of them!

Spot on! Fox sets the tone for the rest of the cable networks. The ground work has been laid by Fox channel. Fox stirs up the rabid base with race-baiting, fear-mongering, anti-Obama smears.

I refuse to call them news. The rest of cable networks run with the sideshow.

He’s bucking for Nancy Pelosi’s job as Speaker of the House. Outside of that he spends the remainder of his days tanning, cocktailing and yelling NO WE WON’T!

  8. Military: ‘Kill Team’ Slayed Afghan Civilians, Kept Body Parts As Trophies

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/09/12-us-soldiers-charged-wi_n_710409.html

A dozen U.S. soldiers are charged with organizing a secret “kill team” which allegedly murdered Afghan civilians at random and cut fingers and other body parts from corpses as trophies.

Charging documents released Wednesday shed new light on the cases against 12 soldiers who served a year in southern Afghanistan with a Stryker infantry brigade.

God help us. This is so vile, so disgusting. Prosecute them to the fullest.

Councilman Phil Davison of Minerva, Ohio made a fiery speech at Wednesday evening’s Stark County Republican Party’s executive committee meeting to select a nominee to run for Stark County treasurer.

Davison rocked the assembly at Malone University’s Johnson Center with his impassioned political presentation the likes of which few politically involved citizens have ever seen.

While Davison did not get the nomination (North Canton Finance Director Alex Zumbar did), he certainly made a lasting impression.

    Wow! Straight nutsville!

President exhorts Florida pastor to call off plan; says it will endanger troops

President Barack Obama said in an interview Thursday that the Quran-burning plan by a Florida pastor was a “recruitment bonanza for al-Qaida.”

Speaking on ABC’s “Good Morning America” in an interview broadcast Thursday, Obama warned that Rev. Terry Jones’ plan would endanger U.S. troops and could lead to serious violence in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The president called it a “stunt” and exhorted Jones to “listen to those better angels” and call off the protest this weekend.

The expected departure of Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to run for mayor of Chicago is likely to mark the beginning of a wider White House shake-up, officials said Wednesday, one aimed at helping the administration regain its footing in the aftermath of anticipated Democratic losses in the midterm elections and positioning President Obama for a tough 2012 reelection fight.
