During the 2008 election, the headquarters was set up with lotsa activity. They have no reason to be set up now and the Democratic Party has not taken up the slack. It takes money to turn voters into votes. Sad but oh so true.
Maybe Eddie Bernice will be forced to spend some money this year; the local media is giving her the blues. There will be voters who will definitely go out to vote because its obvious the Rethugs are after her. That will also be motivation for whites in her district to vote against her too, but I think the AA community will get out during the midterms more than they normally do just because she is being attacked.
It takes money and man/woman power to turn out the vote. It also takes hurt, pain, destitution, and downright on the edge of survival-mode for some folks to step out of their homes and go to the voting booths.
If Black folks have been awake since November 4, they have witnessed what you and I have witnessed. The attempts to bring down this President by any means short of killing him. And don’t think folks haven’t entertained the idea and haven’t tried to.
Now the POTUS is not perfect, and I never expected him to be. What I have witnessed is his calm, astute, intelligent, and deliberate actions in the face of the racial bigotry, name-calling slurs, of the right wing, teabaggers, the obstructionist GOP, the daily bashing and hounding of him by the media.
Wha tI have witnessed is that he is presiding over our country in some very trying times, and he is still getting things done. Health care, stimulus bills, unemployment bills, WS overhaul, nominated 2 female SC justices….. His First Lady aint too shabby either.
So all those black folks and other POC who want to sit on the sidelines come November and yammer on about he didn’t keep his promise to close Gitmo, and some such other BS like the fauxgressives on the left and buy intot he socialist, Hitler labels like the nutty right, go right ahead at your own peril.
Can the POTUS rally the base to get out and vote in November? That’s the key question.
Historically, the majority of the base only votes heavily during Presidential elections. That’s a known fact and those opposing the President no that. The paid operatives work hard with the money the presidential candidates have available to them to get the votes out. That kinda money isnt passed around during midterms. His whole political future depends on the base going to the polls in November. Will it happen?

The base is not only well meaning white folks and independents. It is definitely AAs, Hispanics, and now Muslim Americans to name a few. During Presidential elections money is passed around to operatives make phone calls and to literally carry people to the polls in their cars. Where is that money coming from during the midterms; it historically isnt there. Do you think people go out to vote just on their own free will and accord because its the right thing to do?
I work with OFA in MN. We work our asses off since before 2008 and present. It’s ongoing. Neighborhood canvasing, phone banks, fundraising events, etc. Folk slamming doors in our faces, slamming phones down in our ears, but we keep plugging along.
WE don’t take it personally, yet we do, because we know what’s at stake if the Republicans gain control of the house and come back into the White House.
Obama’s true base is AA, and othe POC, and if anyone thinks differently, they’re kidding themselves. We also recognize that some indies and white folks support him too. We don’t use fear tactics, however we do paint what the president and his admin have to offer, have accomplished, and what is at stake if he’s not allowed to continue executing his policies to right the wrongs of the past admin.

We have to remind and encourage voters to get out and vote!

Let’s hope that Hispanics will become part of the base now that they know that clowns like Arizona’s governor and the Republicans are not trying to keep them in the USA. Let’s hope they will vote democratic.
I believe they will, Vettte. Republicans have shown Hispanic voters that they don’t give a damn about their interests or whether their families are split up or whether they have a job so they can eat. What is happening in Arizona is a sure test of how much rethugs care for people of color.
