(Oct. 1) — Late this afternoon, CNN announced that it had fired anchor Rick Sanchez following controversial comments he made about Jews, the media and Comedy Central host Jon Stewart.
“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well,” a statement from CNN read.
Appearing Thursday on the Sirius radio program “Stand Up! With Pete Dominick,” Sanchez, who was born in Cuba and grew up in Florida, repeatedly took aim at Stewart, calling him a “bigot.”
When pressed by Dominick as to what he meant specifically, Sanchez gave the following explanation.
“I think he looks at the world through his mom, who was a schoolteacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that,” Sanchez said, according to transcripts provided by the radio program’s blog. “Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle-class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.”
Dominick then asked what group it was that Stewart held a prejudiced view toward.
“Everybody else who’s not like him,” Sanchez responded. “Look at his show, I mean what does he surround himself with?”
Later in the program, Sanchez retracted the word “bigot” from his criticism of Stewart. “All right,” Sanchez said. “I’ll take the word bigot back; I’ll say prejudicial, uninformed.” But as the conversation continued, Sanchez hammered away at Stewart, and after Dominick noted that, being a Jew, Stewart had a sense of what it was to be an oppressed minority, Sanchez laughed.
“Very powerless people,” Sanchez said with a snicker. “He’s such a minority, I mean, you know. … Please, what are you kidding? I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they — the people in this country who are Jewish — are an oppressed minority? Yeah.”
Sanchez argued that Jews don’t experience the same level of discrimination as blacks and Hispanics.
“I grew up not speaking English, dealing with real prejudice every day as a kid; watching my dad work in a factory, wash dishes, drive a truck, get spit on. I’ve been told that I can’t do certain things in life simply because I was a Hispanic,” Sanchez said. “My friends who are black, I’ve seen that with them; I’ve seen that with a lot of minorities. I can’t really think — although I understand the plight of Jews, and all the experiences, and the things that have happened historically for them — but I can’t say that my buddy Glen or my buddy Izzy who I grew up with in South Florida ever were prejudiced against directly simply because they were Jewish. There may have been jokes around them or about other things, but it’s kinda — you know what I’m saying, it’s kind of a different thing.”

CNN has fired anchor Rick Sanchez following a radio rant Thursday night where he called Jon Stewart a “bigot,” blamed CNN brass for discrimination against him and insinuated that the media industry is controlled by Jews. The network announced Sanchez’s dismissal in a statement early Friday evening:
“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well,“ the statement said.
Sanchez’s controversial interview occurred on the final day of his show in the 8 p.m. time slot, where he was replacing Campbell Brown, who departed in May. Angry about being replaced by CNN’s new “Parker Spitzer” talk show and the constant jokes made at his expense on the “Daily Show,” he lashed out on at his perceived enemies — CNN brass, Jon Stewart and Jews.

Bank of America, the nation’s largest bank, has put foreclosures in 23 states on hold in order to review whether “certain affidavits have followed the correct procedures,” the company said today. The bank is the third major lender to freeze foreclosures in those states due to flawed paperwork. J.P. Morgan and Ally Financial have announced similar measures.

I’oint know. He is telling th etruth about Jews and their stronghold on the media, though. I don’t watch Jon Stewart, or CNN for any length of time, I don’t know much about either of them to make a call on the bigoted comment.
CNN has fired Rick Sanchez for calling Jon Stewart a bigot and further inferring that everybody at CNN was just like him.

WASHINGTON — Even as voters rage and candidates put up ads against government bailouts, the reviled mother of them all — the $700 billion lifeline to banks, insurance and auto companies — will expire after Sunday at a fraction of that cost, and could conceivably earn taxpayers a profit.
A final accounting of the government’s full range of interventions in the economy, including the bailouts of the mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, is years off and will most likely remain controversial and potentially costly.
But the once-unthinkable possibility that the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program could end up costing far less, or even nothing, became more likely on Thursday with the news that the government had negotiated a plan with the American International Group to begin repaying taxpayers.

Report gives stimulus package high marks

The massive economic stimulus package President Obama pushed through Congress last year is coming in on time and under budget – and with strikingly few claims of fraud or abuse – according to a White House report to be released Friday.
Coming barely a month before November’s midterm elections, which will determine whether Democrats retain control of Congress, the report challenges public perceptions of the stimulus aid as slow-moving and wasteful – an image that has fueled voter anger with the dominant party. Even some former skeptics who predicted that the money would lead to rampant abuse now acknowledge that the program could serve as a model for improving efficiency in government.
By the end of September, the administration had spent 70 percent of the act’s original $787 billion, which met a White House goal of quickly pumping money into the nation’s ravaged economy, the report says. The administration also met nearly a dozen deadlines set by Congress for getting money out the door.
Meanwhile, lower-than-anticipated costs for some projects have permitted the administration to stretch stimulus money further than expected, financing an additional 3,000 projects, according to the report.
