Alvin Slaughter is an American gospel musician, worship leader, singer-songwriter.
Slaughter is based out of New York City, where he was a member of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir until the early 1990s[1], when he was signed by Integrity Music and began his solo career[2]. He has been nominated for several Dove Awards and performed on the TBN television network. He is also the father of Christian rapper, Sean Slaughter.

    LITHONIA, Ga. — A megachurch pastor accused of luring four young men into sexual relationships said Sunday that he won’t be pulled into a street fight over the allegations and vowed that his faith has been strengthened.

    Bishop Eddie Long did not directly mention the accusations to thousands of cheering supporters during services at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in suburban Lithonia. But his remarks seemed directly addressed to his accusers.

    “In times of challenge, there are several things that come out. Your faith will be strengthened or weakened,” he said, to growing applause. “My faith is being strengthened.”

    Long told supporters at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church that he is “not going to be pulled into a street fight” and that he doesn’t hate anyone. But he directed his listeners to turn to a passage in the Book of Job that read: “Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more.”

    As his devoted flock cheered, Long joked that he accidentally led them to the wrong page. “That was the Holy Ghost,” he said, flashing a smile as the sanctuary echoed with laughter.

    I’ve got to hand it to Washington Journal host Robb Harleston. I don’t think I could have sat there and listened to this woman and been that polite. I’d love to think that since the caller is 90 years old maybe we’re coming to the end of an era where this is considered acceptable, but given the rabid open racism that’s been unleashed by the right since the election of President Obama, it’s painfully obvious we’ve still got a really long way to go.

    CALLER: I’m 90 years old and I just wanted to ask the colored man, why don’t colored people instead of saying what we did to them, why don’t they say what we did for them? They talk about the slavery but since then they have been given welfare, free medicine, free everything.

    HARLESTON: Ma’am I think this is more of a conversation about the relationship between the administration and the people on Wall Street and not necessarily one that’s based on race.

    CALLER: Oh, okay. I’m not a racist. That was my comment. Thank you.

    In addition to being severely underfunded during this crisis, the welfare programs simply aren’t set up to help the formerly-middle class people who are trying to get into the system. For instance, here in Pennsylvania, someone I know was turned down because his bank statement showed transfers from Paypal into his checking account, and they counted that as monthly income. He tried to explain that he’d sold everything he had left on eBay, and there was nothing left to sell, but the caseworker wouldn’t listen. Contrary to popular myth, it’s quite difficult for anyone with any assets at all to get onto welfare:

    The nation’s welfare system of cash assistance, for decades the core of help for mothers and children in financial distress, has become a shrunken piece of the U.S. social safety net.

    MSNBC’s Ed Schultz Gets To Address His Very Own Washington, DC Rally

    MSNBC host Ed Schultz once received attention for claiming he easily could put together a rally as large as Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally. Today his dream has come true, sort of, as he received an invitation to address the liberal “One Nation Working Together” rally. Today was all about “the people” and how now “is a time to fight for America.”

    If that sounds exactly like something out of “Restoring Honor,” that’s because it is. With the exception of his pro-Obama, pro-universal health care, anti-corporation talk, much of Schultz’s message sounded like a diluted version of Beck’s, centered around patriotism and unity in difficult times, and self-reflection– a far cry from Schultz’s usual “fat slob,” “torch the place” fare.

    Asking the crowd whether they were Americans several times, to cheers, Schultz directed them to look within themselves and assert their identity:

    “It is a defining moment for this country for us to look into our hearts and our soul to really find out who we are as a people, as a country, as a family. The conservative voices of America are holding you down. They don’t believe in your freedom.”

      Sorry, but Ed Schultz does not getting any props from me for appearing at the that rally. Him and his cable ilk are symptons and for the msot part the cause of what ails america.

      Don’t need dough boy Shultz telling me who doesn’t believe in my freedom, while this fat fuck gets paid by conservative voices. See, I’m free to write this complete sentence.
