Prince  (born Prince Rogers Nelson, June 7, 1958) is a singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He has been known under the unpronounceable symbol Prince logo.svg, which he used between 1993 and 2000. Posted by: Helen Philpot | October 8, 2010 Helen and Margaret’s Pledge to America

Margaret, the problem with Populism is that the population includes asses like Sarah Palin and her Tea Party. Someone needs to remind them that this is America. The government is elected by the people. Questioning your government is patriotic. Hating your government, one the other hand, is simply a form of self loathing.

And let’s talk about that hatred. It seems so at odds with the supposed Christian morals they so proudly espouse. They hate big government but instead of taking issue with the largest part of that government – the military – they take issue with healthcare. They hate big government in healthcare but they have no issue with government being big enough to intervene in the private health decisions of a woman seeking to end a pregnancy or the private decisions of a husband wanting to end the decade long sufferings of his wife. They hate big government but they don’t seem to hate using government to legislate hate against homosexuals. And they hate big government, but they don’t seem to hate it when they can use it to fuel their hatred. Gosh I hate that…

And now those morons in Washington with the “R” after their names have made another pledge to America. I guess it’s just one more thing they can do today and then ignore tomorrow . A Contract With America. A Pledge to America. Mission Accomplished. For goodness sakes how many times are we going to fall for this prank? They spend years screwing everything up and then eventually pledge to not do it again
How about not doing it the first time… or the second time for that matter?

Here is my pledge to you Margaret. I hope you like it.

I pledge that I will actually read the Constitution before pledging to uphold it. And I pledge that if I am too stupid to understand its intent, I won’t become a politician.

I pledge not to start two wars, give tax breaks to millionaires, ruin the economy and then get mad when someone shows me the bill.

I pledge not to be a hypocrite or a Tea Party Republican – whichever comes first.

I pledge to remember that religious freedoms apply to all religions including the lack of a religion. And I pledge to remember that no matter how much I believe in my religion, I will remember that my neighbor believes in his religion just as much. And finally, I pledge that if I believe in my religion too much I will keep it to myself.

I pledge to stop calling Sarah Palin a stupid bitch when she finally admits that she is too stupid to run this country. At that point I will simply call her a bitch and let the stupid speak for itself.

I pledge that I won’t hate gay people in public and then sleep with them in private.

I pledge to accept the fact that John McCain really can’t pull his head out of his ass at this point. It’s in too deep.

I pledge not to be shocked when Rick Sanchez announces his new show on Fox News.

I pledge to remember that there are 6 billion people in the world and only 300 million of them live in the United States . And with 300 million Americans to choose from, we can’t do better than John Boehner? Really?

And Margaret, my dear, I pledge that I will vote on November 2. I meant it. Really.

Here is my pledge to you dear.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

That about sums it up, dear. That and Endust is as good if not better than Pledge.

  2. Obama, Biden Headed To Delaware, Aiming To Make Christine O’Donnell Face Of The Tea Party

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/08/obama-biden-to-go-to-dela_n_756449.html#comments

President Barack Obama will be making a campaign trek to Delaware next Friday even as the Senate race in that state seems more like a political freak show than an actual, tight election contest.

Recent polls have put the race firmly in the hands of Democratic candidate Chris Coons, in large part because Christine O’Donnell’s defining campaign functions to date have been efforts to convince voters she’s not a witch. So why then would the president, who will be joined by Delaware native, Vice President Joe Biden, use his precious time and capital on a state where little of either are needed.

The explanations run the gamut. One operative said that the White House wants to “shut the door” on the contest, while firming up a Senate ally in Coons. That same operative made the case that there would be good spill-over news coverage in neighboring Pennsylvania, where Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Penn) is hoping to make inroads in his own Senate race.

The more compelling explanation, however, came from a party strategist, who said that the macro-elements of Obama visit are too tempting to ignore.

O’Donnell is running a freak show up there! Go shut her down, Mr. President!

10,000 line up for mortgage help at Cal Expo
    mglover@sacbee.com
    Published Friday, Oct. 08, 2010

An estimated 10,000 people were in line at Cal Expo this morning when the doors opened on a five-day event aimed at helping distressed homeowners avoid foreclosure.

The line for the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America’s “Save the Dream” event stretched from the Cal Expo Pavilion staging area, through the west parking lot, onto Exposition Boulevard and nearly to Ethan Way – a distance of half a mile.

Sacramento-area homeowners stood shoulder to shoulder with homeowners from all parts of California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona and other states. Almost all were hoping to have their mortgage payments lowered in order to keep their homes.

NACA officials just wrapped up a six-day event at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where an estimated 40,000 came through the doors.

NACA CEO Bruce Marks expects that many to come through Cal Expo by the time of Tuesday’s scheduled closing.

“You would think that the crowds would diminish by now, but they’re not. They keep coming, even after two and a half years of doing this,” Marks said. “This (Sacramento event) is probably going to have about as many as we had in Los Angeles.”

  5. Albertina Walker, ‘Queen of Gospel,’ Dies At Age 81

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/08/albertina-walker-queen-of_n_756040.html

Chicago — Grammy-winning singer Albertina Walker, who was known as the “Queen of Gospel,” has died at age 81.

Close friend and WVON radio host Pam Morris says Walker died Friday morning of respiratory failure in at RML Specialty Hospital in Chicago.

Morris says Walker was “a living legend” who was responsible for launching more than a dozen careers of gospel artists.

Walker formed her own gospel group, the Caravans, as a young woman and was a protege of gospel star Mahalia Jackson.

U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush called Walker a voice for the civil rights movement. He says her music was “a healing balm to those who struggled for justice.”

Walker was lifelong Chicago resident and member of the West Point Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Rest In Peace, Albertina Walker! Your memory will live on in your wonderful music that you left us. Go sing in that heavenly choir! Well done!

Top Nevada GOP lawmaker endorses Reid
    By MARTIN GRIFFITH
    The Associated Press
    Thursday, October 7, 2010; 7:30 PM

RENO, Nev. — Veteran state Sen. Bill Raggio, one of Nevada’s most influential Republicans over the last four decades, says he’s reluctantly endorsing Democratic U.S. Sen. Harry Reid’s re-election campaign.

Raggio issued a statement Thursday sharply criticizing GOP candidate Sharron Angle, branding her as a “totally ineffective” four-term state lawmaker.

Raggio also cited what he called Angle’s inability and unwillingness to work with others even within her own party, and her extreme positions on Social Security and other issues.

Raggio also criticized Angle for badmouthing GOP leaders in a recent secretly taped conversation.

The Angle campaign did not immediately respond to Raggio’s comments.

Raggio defeated Angle two years ago in a bitter GOP primary.

Breaking News Alert: Sen. Reid calls on major lenders to halt foreclosures in all 50 states
    October 8, 2010 12:56:48 PM
    —————————————-

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called on major lenders to halt foreclosures in all 50 states Friday following Bank of America’s announcement it was stopping proceedings until it finishes reviewing possible paperwork problems.

Reid, who had sent a letter to major banks asking them to suspend foreclosures in Nevada, extended his concern to include all 50 states.

“I thank Bank of America for doing the right thing by suspending actions on foreclosures while this investigation runs its course,” said Reid. “I urge other major mortgage servicers to consider expanding the area where they have halted foreclosures to all 50 states as well.”

He emphasized, “My primary focus is to protect Nevada homeowners who have been hardest hit by foreclosures in the most recent economic downturn.”

Breaking News Alert: Obama calls on China to free Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo
    October 8, 2010 11:35:31 AM
    —————————————-

President Obama, who was awarded last year’s Nobel Peace Prize, called on China to release this year’s winner, Liu Xiaobo, who is serving an 11-year prison sentence.

“Last year, I noted that so many others who have received the award had sacrificed so much more than I. That list now includes Mr. Liu, who has sacrificed his freedom for his beliefs. By granting the prize to Mr. Liu, the Nobel Committee has chosen someone who has been an eloquent and courageous spokesman for the advance of universal values through peaceful and non-violent means, including his support for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law,” Obama said.

“We call on the Chinese government to release Mr. Liu as soon as possible,” he said.

Donald in 2012: ‘I’m Serious’ Go sit your coon cap head down some where Trump!
    by Lloyd Grove

Give him this much: The Donald knows how to crash a news cycle. He talks to Lloyd Grove about his flirtation with a 2012 run, his bid to buy the “ground zero mosque,” and how he polishes his brand.

Is Donald Trump really thinking about running for president? Or is he—as suggested by skeptics and detractors—simply doing what he always does: finding a way to insert himself into whatever public controversy will keep his name in the spotlight and boost the Trump brand?
“I’m serious about this,” the thatch-roofed reality-TV star, beauty-pageant impresario and real-estate developer insisted to me Thursday, a couple of days after he phoned in to MSNBC’s Morning Joe program and floated the idea of a 2012 presidential campaign.

“Many people have asked me to run. I have never seen the country in the state that it’s in, and now I am considering it,” he told me. RightTTTTTTTT! The Donster’s real estate bizzness must be taking a huge hit

Ah, Duke’s dirty secrets are getting aired. Of course it’s just college kids knockin’da boots!

Duke Winces as a Private Joke Slips Out of ControlBy KATHARINE Q. SEELYE and LIZ ROBBINS
    Published: October 7, 2010

DURHAM, N.C. — For nearly two weeks, many here on the Duke University campus had been aware of a certain senior “thesis” that a recent graduate wrote, apparently as a private joke, about her sexual exploits with 13 student-athletes.

Then the Internet seized on it. The thesis, written as a 42-page Power Point presentation, went viral. And students here again found their school in the middle of a sex-related scandal and annoyed at the power of the murky, borderless world of the Internet to wreak havoc and tarnish images.

“It makes me ashamed that the Duke name is attached to what she’s done,” Nicole Queathem, 22, a senior from St. Louis, said as she sat in the student union. “And it’s the age-old double standard: people are more critical of what she did because she’s a girl.”

The woman in question, Karen Owen, 22, who graduated this year from Duke, evaluated what she said were her sexual liaisons with 13 student-athletes during her years at the school, and she prepared a slide presentation, complete with pictures of her subjects and graphs ranking their performance.

She forwarded this mock thesis in “horizontal academics” to a few friends, who forwarded it to their friends. After percolating within the Duke community for nearly a week, with e-mails reaching alumni overseas and message boards buzzing, the report was published online by two related Web sites, Jezebel and Deadspin. From there, it exploded onto the blogosphere, where as of Thursday it was still being shared via Twitter with the frenzied speed of the Indianapolis 500.

No more ‘marriage gap’ for college-educated women
    By Donna St. George
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Thursday, October 7, 2010; 9:36 PM

White women with college degrees are now just as likely to get married as their less-educated counterparts, ending what researchers once thought of as a “marriage penalty” for generations of young women who sought out higher education.

A new report shows that the marriage gap, though once large, turned around for white women starting with those born in the early 1970s. Now ages 35 to 39, these women have been as likely to marry as those who did not graduate from college, according to the report done by the Pew Research Center.

For both groups, 84 percent had married at some point before they were 40, according to the analysis of 2008 data.

“It’s a historic reversal,” said senior researcher Richard Fry, author of the Pew study. “There was a time in the early 20th century when there was a huge marriage gap.”

The finding, based on data from the Census Bureau, comes as part of a broader analysis of the reversal of the college marriage gap.

Once, the popular notion was that going to college delayed the age of marriage. Now, across the population, the typical age for marriage is 28, both for those who complete higher education and those who don’t take that path or in some cases don’t finish.

Probing the trend, researchers found that much of this shift has been driven by a declining likelihood of marriage among men and women without college degrees.

“Young adults today believe you shouldn’t
