Gerald Maxwell Rivera (born May 23, 1973), better known by the mononym Maxwell, is an American R&B artist. He played an important role in the development of the soul sub-genre, neo-soul.

Maxwell was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father was Pentecostal and raised in Vieques, Puerto Rico. His mother grew up in a devout Baptist household in Haiti.

Maxwell began working with songwriter Leon Ware and noted guitarist Wah Wah Watson to record his debut Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite in the early 1990s. When the album was finished Columbia had doubts about its potential and shelved it for two years. The album was finally issued in 1996.

  5. Conspiracy theorists find validation from Glenn Beck

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/08/AR2010100805640.html

“I would’ve never started watching Fox News if it wasn’t for the fact that Beck was on there,” says this friend, Byron Williams. “And it was the things he did, it was the things he exposed, that blew my mind.”

“I do enjoy Glenn Beck,” Williams also says, “and the reason why I enjoy that is because… no other channel will speak about the same things that he’s talking about, and if you go and investigate those things you’ll find out that they’re true.”

Unfortunately for Beck, this satisfied viewer currently resides at the Santa Rita Jail near Oakland and stands accused of a freeway shootout with police. Williams pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempted murder of a police officer. But according to court documents, he said he had been on a mission to kill people at the liberal Tides Foundation, which happens to be a favorite Beck target.

In August, I wrote that while it’s not fair to blame Beck for violence committted by his fans, he would do well to stop encouraging extremists. Now, Williams has granted a pair of jailhouse interviews, one with the conservative Examiner.com and one to be published soon by the liberal group Media Matters. These recorded exchanges, which I have reviewed, show precisely why Beck is dangerous: because his is the one voice in the mass media that validates conspiracy theories held by the unstable.

What if Beck were black? What then? Oh wait….2 words…..Fred Hampton!

  6. Boehner: Vote a referendum on Obama

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1010/43308.html

House Minority Leader John Boehner told a hometown audience Friday that voters should remember the election is a referendum on President Obama and Democrats’ “job-killing policies.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, your government hasn’t been listening. Your government is disrespecting you, your family, your job, your children. Your government is out of control. Do you have to accept it? Do you have to take it? Of course you don’t. That’s what elections are for,” Boehner said. The final note echoed a comment by Obama at the White House health care summit last February

    Mofo please!

A video showing a group of four young men performing a street-corner dance on a rainy day in Oakland, CA has gone viral on YouTube, and with good reason.

The four dancers in the video are part of an Oakland-based dance group called Turf Feinz. The group’s Facebook page boasts that it “organizes dance battles [and] young people” in order to “provide a safe space for entertainment and continue the advancement of turf dancing.”

Obama to stump in Minn. for Dayton campaign

    The Associated Press
    Saturday, October 9, 2010; 6:20 PM

MINNEAPOLIS — President Barack Obama is scheduled to headline a rally in Minneapolis for Mark Dayton, the Democratic candidate for Minnesota governor.

The Dayton campaign says Obama will be in town Oct. 23. Details haven’t been released.

Vice President Joe Biden stumped for Dayton on Tuesday in St. Paul.

The Republicans countered Biden’s visit by bringing in Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich the next day. He rallied support for Tom Emmer, the Republican candidate for Minnesota governor, and the state GOP at a private fundraiser in Minneapolis.

It’s been more than a year since Obama spoke in Minnesota. He discussed health care reform in September 2009 in Minneapolis. (**Shanti was at this rally***) Tee hee hee!
Ametia’s gonna try and get a ticket for this event if she can.

  11. Clarence Thomas’s Wife Calls Obama A Tyrant

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/09/virginia-thomas-clarence-_n_756881.html#comments

For three decades, Mrs. Thomas has been a familiar figure among conservative activists in Washington — since before she met her husband of 23 years, Justice Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court. But this year she has emerged in her most politically prominent role yet: Mrs. Thomas is the founder and head of a new nonprofit group, Liberty Central, dedicated to opposing what she characterizes as the leftist “tyranny” of President Obama and Democrats in Congress and to “protecting the core founding principles” of the nation.

Clarence Thomas need to be impeached…

    • Ametia says:

      Fuck the Thomas’ THE.END.

    • Ametia says:

Virginia Thomas being a devout member of the Tea Party is in DIRECT conflict with her husband Unca Clarence who is a sitting Justice of SCOTU. Go sit down and STFU, Virginia. Ya wouldn’t know about core founding principles if it bit you in the ass! Bye bitch.

      • Can a US Supreme Court justice be impeached and removed from office?

        http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_a_US_Supreme_Court_justice_be_impeached_and_removed_from_office

Under normal circumstances, a Supreme Court justice is awarded a lifetime commission.

A Supreme Court Justice may be impeached by the House of Representatives and removed from office if convicted in a Senate trial, but only for the same types of offenses that would trigger impeachment proceedings for any other government official under Articles I and II of the Constitution.

Article III, Section 1 states that judges of Article III courts shall hold their offices “during good behavior.” “The phrase “good behavior” has been interpreted by the courts to equate to the same level of seriousness ‘high crimes and misdemeanors” encompasses.

In addition, any federal judge may prosecuted in the criminal courts for criminal activity. If found guilty of a crime in a federal district court, the justice would face the same type of sentencing any other criminal defendant would. The district court could not remove him/her from the Bench. However, any justice found guilty in the criminal courts of any felony would certainly be impeached and, if found guilty, removed from office.

In the United States, impeachment is most often used to remove corrupt lower-court federal judges from office, but it’s not unusual to find disgruntled special interest groups circulating petitions on the internet calling for the impeachment of one or all members of the High Court.

Challenge to Immigration Law Is Upheld
    By MARC LACEY
    Published: October 8, 2010

A Federal District Court judge ruled Friday that one of the main lawsuits seeking to overturn Arizona’s new immigration law could go forward, despite efforts by Gov. Jan Brewer and several sheriffs to have the suit thrown out. But the judge, Susan R. Bolton, dismissed some portions of the suit, filed by the National Immigration Law Center and other advocacy groups, including their claim that the law would restrict immigrants’ rights to travel and to use a foreign language.
