Patti Labelle (born Patricia Louise Holte; May 24, 1944) is an American singer and actress. She fronted two groups, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, which received minor success on the pop charts in the 1960s, and Labelle, which received acclaim and a mainstream breakthrough in 1974 with their song “Lady Marmalade“. She went on to have a solo recording career, earning another U.S. #1 single in 1986 with “On My Own“, a duet with Michael McDonald.
She is renowned for her passionate stage performances, wide vocal range and distinctive high-octave belting. Her biography, Don’t Block the Blessings, remained at the top of The New York Times best-seller list for several weeks. Obama rally for Harry Reid will be at Las Vegas middle school

President Barack Obama has decided on a location for his Las Vegas rally with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: Orr Middle School Park.
The rally will be the sixth “Moving America Forward” event featuring the president, who is crisscrossing the country to boost support for Democratic candidates.
Recent rallies in Madison, Wis., and Philadelphia attracted upwards of 20,000 people.
It is free and open to the public. Doors for the Oct. 22 event open at 3:30 p.m.
Party officials will choose three contest winners and give them backstage passes to the event to spend time with the president. To enter, people must make a $15 donation to the Democrats.
The contest is most certainly a fundraising stunt. But it also highlights stark differences between the parties, Democrats say.

The White House is usually quite good at keeping a muzzle on the media after one of its off-the-record sessions with President Obama and senior members of his administration. But not this week.
A group of black bloggers and journalists from outlets like Essence and BET were invited to the White House on Monday for a half-day of policy briefings by the president’s advisers. The White House provided the journalists with an agenda that spelled out the ground rules: the first half of their briefings was to be on background, meaning they could report any information they learned but not attribute it to any specific official; the second half was off the record entirely.
Still, that did not stop bloggers from writing about the event and, in one case, posting a video of the president’s remarks to the group.
For me, giving your word is the gospel. I don’t have any arguments about what folks want to write about POTUS, I don’t have any control over it, an dcan agree or disagree. Free will is a beautiful thing. Just HONOR your word.

Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg Walk Off ‘The View’ After Fiery Exchange With Bill O’Reilly (VIDEO)

Things got so heated between Bill O’Reilly, Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg on “The View” that the co-hosts walked off the set of the show.
The incident occurred during a fiery exchange about the proposed Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero. O’Reilly said President Obama’s qualified support of the center was evidence of the “gulf” between him and the American people. Goldberg and Behar objected strongly to O’Reilly’s claim.
“This is America!” Behar said.
“Listen to me because you’ll learn!” O’Reilly interrupted her, to gasps from the audience.
The View got exactly what they bargined for in having O’Reily on their show. I’m sure Hasslebeck was singing words of praisef or this nutjob softly to herself.
WTF did Barbara think Joy & Whoopi should have said. How do you maintain any sense of civility with the uncivilized? O’Reiley’s no bettter than the extremist who took down the Trade Center on 911.
Chris Matthews: Tea Party Miners ‘Would Have Been Killing Each Other’ (VIDEO)

Chris Matthews said Wednesday that, if the Chilean miners trapped underground for nearly 70 days had been members of the Tea Party, their “every man for himself” worldview would have caused them to start killing each other instead of working together. (H/T Politico)
Matthews made the comments during an interview with AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka on Wednesday’s “Hardball.” Watching the continuing footage of the miners being rescued, he started talking about what the philosophy of the Tea Party movement, which he viewed as “every man for himself, basically: no more taxes, more government, no more everything…everybody just get out there, make your buck, screw the government, move on.”
Trumka nodded in agreement.
Matthews continued:
“These people, if they were every man for himself down that mine, they wouldn’t have gotten out. They would have been killing each other after about two days. This is a story of how people can work together.”
Matthews should know, now shouldn’t he?

Harry Whittington Still Waiting For Apology, 4 Years After Dick Cheney Shooting

It has been almost five years since Harry Whittington took an errant blast from then-Vice President Dick Cheney’s shotgun while on a quail hunting trip in Texas. The pellets perforated his face, neck and chest, causing health complications for the Texas trial lawyer both in the immediate wake of the incident and in the period after. A total of 200 bits of lead shrapnel entered Whittington’s body that February evening in 2006 — 30 still remain — and out of it, he’s never even gotten a personal apology from Cheney.
The Washington Post interviewed Whittington recently, a man still marked by birdshot, but who seems remarkably at peace with the fateful episode.
The Post reports:
Despite his scars, Whittington bears no ill will toward Cheney. He calls him “a very capable and honorable man” and adds, “He’s said some very kind things to me.”
Those “kind things” don’t amount to an apology, however, not even one like Whittington delivered to the public and the White House after being discharged from the hospital in 2006.
“My family and I are deeply sorry for all that Vice President Cheney and his family have had to go through this past week,” Whittington said at the time.
Just pure evil. How can you shoot someone in the face and not apologize? And he’ll never apologize to sending young men to their death in a War that shouldn’t have ever been authorized either. Hell awaits him…
Not to worry, Mr. Whittington, when Cheney arrives at the gates of HELL, there will be a firing squad waiting for him.

As campaign money pours in, so do complaints

The 2010 midterm elections are likely to set records for spending by outside interest groups – and are already setting a healthy pace for complaints with the Federal Election Commission and the Internal Revenue Service.
Another example is likely to come Thursday, with two gay rights organizations, the Human Rights Campaign and the Courage Campaign, planning to file an IRS complaint over the tax status of one of their most vocal opponents.
The groups allege that the Ruth Institute, an arm of the National Organization for Marriage, has violated rules forbidding charities to get involved in political races. NOM, which opposes legalizing same-sex marriage, denies the allegation.
The complaint, a copy of which was provided to The Washington Post, points to evidence that the president of the Ruth Institute, Jennifer Roback Morse, has actively participated in events in favor of Carly Fiorina, the Republican candidate for Senate in California.
The Ruth Institute has also actively campaigned for judicial candidates in that state’s San Diego County and in Iowa, where conservative activists are leading an effort to remove three state Supreme Court judges who voted in favor of marriage rights for gays there, according to the complaint.
“The evidence that the Ruth Institute and the NOM Education Fund repeatedly stepped over the line into illegal activity is indisputable,” said Joe Solmonese, the HRC’s president. “Is the Ruth Institute nothing more than a front and funnel for NOM’s political activities?”
NOM President Brian Brown called the allegations “laughable” and denied most of the examples cited in the complaint. He said that Morse participated in many events as a private citizen, and that attacks by the two groups have helped NOM raise more than $200,000 in a week.
The complaint is the latest in a series of disputes over the activities of various nonprofit groups, which have been particularly active in this year’s elections after a spate of favorable court rulings.
