Unca Clarence needs to RESIGN in light of the fact that his wife is harrassing Anita Hill (25 years later)

  2. Vettte says:

Hill told the Globe tonight that she has nothing to apologize for and has no intention of retracting her accusation that Thomas made sexually suggestive remarks to her when she worked as his aide at the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“I have no intention of apologizing and I stand by my testimony. No further explanation is needed. I testified truthfully about what my experience was back in the 1980s,” Hill said.

“Initially, I thought this might be a prank,” she said. “I didn’t know whether it was legitimate. I wanted to make sure that I spoke with the authorities and filed a report. And perhaps they could get to the bottom of it.”

A call to a spokeswoman for Virginia Thomas, who is active in conservative politics, was not immediately returned. The New York Times reported on its website tonight that a publicist for Virginia Thomas confirmed she made the call.

  3. Vettte says:

ABC News quoted from the voicemail:

“Good morning, Anita Hill, it’s Ginny Thomas,” it quoted from the voicemail. “I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. Okay have a good day.”

    • Stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Swear?

Is Ginny cruising for a bruising?

      • Vettte says:

SG2, hold my earrangs! You know I aint a cussin woman BUT its time to beat this bitches ass down real good. She’s got issues. Anybody got a email address for her…we gon take this heffa out for Anita all by ourselves.

      • Vettte says:

Why would she rile AA women up now, while she knows we need to keep focused on voting in the next two weeks. She has changed the headlines. So now the mantra has to be:

VOTE! DEFEND CHANGE! DEFEAT GINNY THOMAS!

Naw she didnt ask for a damned apology…she must be out of her damned mind.

      • What da f*ck! This bitch done lost her fking mind!

      • This is some real bitchassness right here!

    • Vettte says:

Hell-to-the-Naw She Didn’t Call Anita Hill……Oooooh, It’s on and poppin’ now!

Miss Ginny had the audacity to CALL Anita and ask for a damned apology to her Husband. Naw, she didn’t…I aint really hearing this, AM I?

      WTH? WTF? What, what, what?

Needless to say the call has been turned over to the FBI – way to go Anita!

But I’m reading on other sites that many AAs are “mad, outraged, pissed, appalled” that AAs brought the POTUS to the party, he hasn’t danced with them over the last 2 years in the job category and NOW he needs a ride home. OMG!

Okay so, we’ve discussed this over the last two years that the POTUS needed to dance with the one who brought him. I have given him a “pass” because he fought like the dikins to get health care passed, but many are stuck on the high unemployment rate in the AA community. What say you?

    • OK, I’ll bite!

Do these angry AA’s think a republican President will work harder for them at creating jobs etc? Pray tell? What republican candidate out there could accomplish the job?

    • Ametia says:

I’ve never looked for PBO to dance with me. I blackened the dot for him in the voting booth for him so that he could preside. And that is exactly what I know he has been doing. He needs the support of his cabinet, and the other branches of government to preside. He’ not fucking superman.

I don’t expect him to pay my bills, feed me, get me a job, give me health care insurance, free the gays so they can marry, etc, etc, etc., and I didn’t expect it from the other 43 POTUS.

We need to get our black asses to the polls and vote Democratic so that the president can continue to clear the hurdles. If we aren’t satisfied with the Dems, then let them know, that includes the POTUS. If you’re not happy, vote Republican.

      • Vettte says:

We continue to have fragments lingering in our heads from plantation “divide and conquer” mentality. Bitchiness is how we, regrettably, roll.

Badly burned Texas man waits for face transplant
Federal health care law helped make him eligible for procedure

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39738484/ns/health-health_care/?gt1=43001

FORT WORTH, Texas — Dallas C. Wiens wants to be able to smile, to smell the rain, to feel his 3-year-old daughter’s kisses.

Two years ago, Wiens’ face was burned away in a horrible electrical accident that also left him blind. Although doctors were able to transfer skin and muscle from Wiens’ back and thighs onto his charred skull, he still doesn’t have lips, a nose or even eyebrows. Now, after about two dozen surgeries, the new federal health care law has helped make him eligible to become perhaps the third person in the U.S. to ever undergo a face transplant.

“I do miss my sight,” said Wiens, who lost his eyes in the accident. “But I miss the sensation of my face and my sense of smell the most.”

Wiens underwent dozens of physical and psychological tests before Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston — one of only two U.S. centers to perform the procedure — approved him as a candidate this month. The federal health care law helped him overcome one hurdle by allowing the 25-year-old Fort Worth man to be covered by his father’s insurance. Wiens will likely wait months more, according to doctors, before a donor is found.

God bless Dallas Wiens and bless our President for Healthcare Reform!

Felon voting rights expanded in 23 states
    By Krissah Thompson
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Tuesday, October 19, 2010; 1:37 PM

A study of felony disenfranchisement laws has found that 800,000 former felons have been returned to the voter rolls in the past decade.

A push by criminal justice advocates and civil rights groups to rewrite state laws that sometimes place lifetime voting bans on felons has resulted in 23 states amending their policies since 1997 to expand voter eligibility, according to a report out by the Sentencing Project.

Nine states repealed or reduced their lifetime voting bans, and eight states made it easier for former felons to appeal to have their voting rights restored.

Those changes were made despite “political challenges that hinder reform and can make it difficult for elected officials to extend civil rights to persons with felony convictions,” said Nicole Porter, author of the report and the Sentencing Project’s state advocacy coordinator.

Existing policies vary from state to state, with Kentucky and Virginia denying ex-felons the right to vote – even after they have completed parole or probation sentences. Both states require individuals to apply to the governor for restoration of civil rights.

Other states have changed those policies. Rhode Island repealed a state prohibition on parolees voting, resulting in the restoration of voting rights to more than 15,000 people. Maryland made a similar change resulting in 52,000 ex-felons regaining the right to vote.

Changes to voting laws have come from both Republicans and Democrats.

In Florida, black state legislators led the fight for a decade before populist Republican Gov. Charlie Crist pushed through the change shortly after being elected in 2006. The legislation permits many nonviolent felons to vote as long as they have no charges pending, have paid restitution and have completed probation. About 152,000 ex-felons are now on voter rolls there.

Then-Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack (D) restored voting rights to almost 100,000 ex-felons, and New Mexico’s repeal of a lifetime voting ban for felons affected 69,000 people.

  9. Arizona Teachers Sue to Protect Ethnic Studies

    http://colorlines.com/archives/2010/10/arizona_teachers_sue_to_protect_ethnic_studies.html

On Monday, Tucson educators filed their long-awaited lawsuit against outgoing Arizona school chief Tom Horne and the State Board of Education to fight back against a newly passed ethnic studies ban.

HB 2281 was signed into law by Gov. Jan Brewer in May, and prohibits Arizona public and charter schools from offering courses that teach students to “resent or hate other races or classes of people.” It bans any course that “promote[s] the overthrow of the United States government; promote[s] resentment toward a race or class of people;” or “is designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group” or “advocate[s] ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.”

The plaintiffs, all ethnic studies teachers, argue that their classes do not violate the law, but say they hope that by suing Horne and the state board, the court will grant an injunction that allows classes to continue uninterrupted. Since HB 2281 was passed, ethnic studies courses, which teach Arizona high school students about the histories of people of color, have soared in popularity.

The language of HB 2281 puts its critics in a bind; the bill targets ethnic studies classes without naming them expressly. Horne, who is running for Arizona state attorney general, has acknowledged that the law was written to target Tucson high school ethnic studies programs, but the court will now have to debate the terms of the law, which are full of coded language. Horne is threatened by students of color forming what he calls “ethnic solidarity” with one another, but ethnic studies educators argue that the courses give students of color a sense of pride in their heritage and belonging to the country and their communities.

Some Harris County early voters upset by poll watchers
Complaints coming mainly from minority precincts

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7253109.html

Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan expects to meet this morning with the county’s Democratic and Republican chairmen after receiving complaints of possible voter intimidation on the first day of early voting on Monday.

The complaints came from predominantly minority precincts.

“We have a long way to go in this election, and we’re committed to having it done lawfully and successfully,” said Terry O’Rourke, first assistant Harris County attorney.

The complaints, he said, came from Kashmere Gardens, Moody Park, Sunnyside and other predominantly minority neighborhoods. The complaints included poll watchers “hovering over” voters, “getting into election workers’ faces” and blocking or disrupting lines of voters waiting to cast their ballots.

    http://colorlines.com/archives/2010/10/mountains_that_take_wing_a_new_film_gives_a_snapshot_of_living_history.html#disqus_thread

Grab your popcorn, there’s a new documentary out that looks like required viewing. Mountains that Take Wing: Angela Davis & Yuri Kochiyama: A Conversation on Life, Struggles and Liberation is making the rounds on the university and festival circuit, and is not to be missed.

The film captures conversations between the two activists and icons spanning a decade as they talk social change and political struggle, theory and activism and art. The film is a unique opportunity to eavesdrop on two women who’ve been at the center of civil rights, prison abolition and global liberation struggles as they reflect on their lives and the work ahead. A rare and exciting snapshot of living history.

    From the MTTW website:

With a combined history of nearly a century of community activism, Angela Y. Davis and Yuri Kochiyama sat down in 1996 to discuss their lives and their passion for justice. Although their paths had crossed many times, this was the first occasion Yuri and Angela had an in depth conversation with one another. Their conversations are full of vitality, humility, resolve and hope. What they have to say about the ethical and social implications of war and the vast prison industrial complex on education, civil liberties and the arts proved to be chillingly perceptive when they picked up their conversation twelve years later in 2008. MOUNTAINS THAT TAKE WING-ANGELA DAVIS & YURI KOCHIYAMA is a compilation of the conversations between these two formidable women on life, struggles and liberation. Davis’ and Kochiyama’s passion, vast historical knowledge, cogent observations and analysis are stunning and offer important lessons in empowerment and community building for current and future generations.

This article goes right under PBo’s shoulder dust off
      Obama the snob
      By Michael Gerson
      Tuesday, October 19, 2010

After a series of ineffective public messages — leaving the political landscape dotted with dry rhetorical wells — President Obama has hit upon a closing argument.

“Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now,” he recently told a group of Democratic donors in Massachusetts, “and facts and science and argument [do] not seem to be winning the day all the time is because we’re hard-wired not to always think clearly when we’re scared. And the country is scared.”

      Let’s unpack these remarks.

Obama clearly believes that his brand of politics represents “facts and science and argument.” His opponents, in disturbing contrast, are using the more fearful, primitive portion of their brains. Obama views himself as the neocortical leader — the defender, not just of the stimulus package and health-care reform but also of cognitive reasoning. His critics rely on their lizard brains — the location of reptilian ritual and aggression. Some, presumably Democrats, rise above their evolutionary hard-wiring in times of social stress; others, sadly, do not.

Though there is plenty of competition, these are some of the most arrogant words ever uttered by an American president.

  14. John McCain: ‘I Couldn’t Be More Proud’ Of Sarah Palin

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/19/john-mccain-sarah-palin_n_767768.html

If there were ever any lasting doubts about a leftover animosity between John McCain and Sarah Palin from their presidential campaign in 2008, he’s now out in full force trying to dispel them. Palin is great, McCain claimed recently, and that Tea Party message she’s been pushing is right on point as well.

“I couldn’t be more proud of her and the campaign she waged,” McCain told ABC News of Palin Monday night. “We went up in the polls after her magnificent speech at the convention. I couldn’t be more proud of her and of her performance and her continued performance. So, I think, you begin to think about legacy and I think that Sarah Palin will play a very big role in the American political scene for a long time.”

Following their failed presidential campaign, a number of rumors arose about a supposed lack of cooperation between Sarah Palin and John McCain, a dynamic that many insiders said damaged their hopes at winning the election. Since, however, the two have appeared supportive of one another, despite John McCain’s poor standing in the Tea Party that Sarah Palin remains so connected to.

On Tuesday, McCain appeared to make moves to close this gap as well, telling ABC’s “Good Morning America” that the Sarah Palin and the Tea Party’s principles of less taxing and less spending were exactly what was needed in the upcoming elections.

Is John McCain nuts or what?

  15. Shots Fired At Pentagon, Building On Lockdown

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/19/pentagon-shooting-lockdown_n_768079.html#comments

WASHINGTON — Someone fired shots at the Pentagon early Tuesday, hitting the building and causing minor damage, defense officials said.

Police who protect the massive Defense Department headquarters temporarily locked down some road and pedestrian entrances to the building after a civilian reported he may have heard shots at about 5 a.m. on the south side of the facility.

A sweep of the area and facility found that some shots had hit the building, Marine Col. Dave Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman said. He didn’t know how many or from what kind of weapon.

Roads and pedestrian entrances leading to the Pentagon were reopened a little after 5:30 a.m. but part of nearby highway 395 was later temporarily closed for part of the investigation.

A dozen police also were seen at around 9 a.m. walking side-by-side in a line as they combed through a grassy area on the south side of the building.

Foreclosure Fortune Buys Bugatti, Yacht, Mansions for Attorney
By David McLaughlin – Oct 18, 2010 11:01 PM CT

For Americans, the foreclosure crisis has wiped out fortunes, bringing destitution and homelessness. For Florida attorney David J. Stern, it has brought mansions, a Bugatti sports car and a luxury yacht.
Florida has the third-highest residential foreclosure rate in the U.S., and Stern, 50, has made a fortune off the bust. His foreclosure-processing business has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue preparing documents for the cases that his law firm brings on behalf of lenders seeking to reclaim homes from borrowers who can’t pay their mortgages.
Now his business is under scrutiny, as banks suspend foreclosures and evictions amid allegations that some home seizures were based on fraudulent documents. Attorneys general in every U.S. state have joined to probe foreclosure practices generally. Stern’s foreclosure firm and three others are under investigation by Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum.
“Some of these law firms we’re dealing with, we have reason to believe, actually forged documents, committed fraud, did all kinds of things,” McCollum said in an interview Oct. 15. “We don’t know where this is headed right now.”
