O Holy Night (“Cantique de Noël“) is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem “Minuit, chrétiens” (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau (1808–1877), a wine merchant and poet, who had been asked by a parish priest to write a Christmas poem.[1] Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight,[2] editor of Dwight’s Journal of Music, created a singing edition based on Cappeau’s French text in 1855. In both the French original and in the two familiar English versions of the carol, the text reflects on the birth of Jesus and of mankind’s redemption.

Vice President Cheney Admits Bush Tax Cuts do NOT create jobs

September 2003 – In an interview with Tim Russert, VP Dick Cheney admitted that Bush Tax Cuts do NOT create jobs. In fact, Cheney admitted that 2.6 Million jobs were LOST between 2001-2003 under the “W” Tax Cuts.
Vice President Dick Cheney also admitted that the Bush Tax Cuts created:
* Dow Jones down 11%. * Unemployment rate up 49%. * $281 billion surplus now a $500 billion deficit. * Jobs, Net Loss of 2.6 Million.
Dick Cheney also admitted that the “W” Tax Cuts “account for 25% of the deficit.”

CHENEY: “…The president’s policies in terms of the tax-cut package does offer very bright prospects for the future. The forecast by nearly everybody I’ve talked with for the last half of this year is we’re looking at 4% to 5% real growth”
RUSSERT: If you froze the tax cut for the Top 1% of Americans, it would generate enough money to pay $87 Billion for the war, if you did it for just ONE year.
CHENEY: I think it’d be a mistake … An awful lot of the returns in that top bracket are small businesses, and they provide a lot of the job growth in this economy.
RUSSERT: The president said in 2002 the Tax Cut would generate 800,000 jobs;
In 2003, he said—be another Million jobs.
None of that has happened.
What has happened is the deficit is skyrocketing, over $500 Billion.
You used to be a real deficit hawk.
CHENEY: I am a deficit hawk. The fact of the matter is, we’ve always made exceptions for recession, national emergency, time of war.
RUSSERT: What about the tax cuts.
CHENEY: Tax cuts accounted for only about 25% of the deficit.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama vowed at the weekend to work with Republicans and Democrats to pass a free-trade pact with South Korea that he said was a model for future agreements he would seek in Asia and around the world.
U.S. and South Korean negotiators struck a deal on Friday on the long-delayed pact, which was signed in 2007 but had not been ratified for three years because of U.S. auto and beef industry concerns.
The pact was an accomplishment for Obama, who faced an embarrassing setback when negotiators failed to settle their differences before he visited Seoul last month, but it was greeted less positively in South Korea.
“The agreement we’re announcing today includes several important improvements and achieves what I believe trade deals must do. It’s a win-win for both our countries,” Obama told reporters in Washington on Saturday.

SEOUL—The U.S. and South Korea over the weekend finally agreed to modify a free-trade agreement that had been stuck in legislative limbo since 2007, and the immediate task for South Korean officials was to persuade lawmakers and the public that they didn’t give up too much in the compromise.
Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon, in a nationally-televised news conference that lasted more than an hour, on Sunday rejected critics who, before hearing details, were accusing his negotiating team of caving in to U.S. pressure in the modification.
He also denied acting too swiftly to make a deal in the aftermath of a North Korean attack on South Korea, an event that prompted Seoul to look to Washington for reassurance of their decades-long defense alliance. “I only negotiated this on the basis of economic principles,” Mr. Kim said.
The pact, which requires legislative approval in both countries, is the largest by value of trade volume anywhere in the world since the North American Free Trade Agreement involving the U.S., Canada and Mexico in 1994. U.S. President Barack Obama said it would support at least 70,000 American jobs, an important selling point as he pushes for ratification in the U.S. Congress.
The U.S.-South Korea deal doesn’t open every economic segment in either country. But it is expected to boost two-way trade, which amounted to $69 billion last year, by $10 billion or more and slightly narrow South Korea’s surplus with the U.S.
To clinch the deal, South Korea agreed to new steps to open its auto market to U.S. producers. Chief among them was that it will allow U.S. makers to sell up to 25,000 vehicles a year using U.S. environmental standards rather than Korean ones.
