Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr.

(April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984), better known by his stage name Marvin Gaye, was an American singer-songwriter and instrumentalist with a four-octave vocal range.[2] Starting as a member of the doo-wop group The Moonglows in the late fifties, he ventured into a solo career after the group disbanded in 1960 signing with the Tamla Records subsidiary of Motown Records. After starting off as a session drummer, Gaye ranked as the label’s top-selling solo artist during the sixties.

Because of solo hits such as “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)“, “Ain’t That Peculiar“, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and his duet singles with singers such as Mary Wells and Tammi Terrell, he was crowned “The Prince of Motown”[3] and “The Prince of Soul”.[4]

Why Buy the Cow When You Can Get the Milk for Free?

    excerpt:

The night before, which was the day of the Tucson shooting, she was found partying the night away in Vegas, in the company of a dubious character. Check out the body language of these two, and check out the identity of her male companion, and you’ll see why it’s mete she’d getting out the negative spin on Obama’s WSJ op-ed and who’s set to suffer from a positive view of the President in the business world.

All I can say is if Huffington’s soul sister, Ms Thrilla from Wasilla, reckons the President is palling around with terrorists, well, how about the voice of the Progressive Left partying and palling around with a powerful Republican Congressman (with a criminal record), who holds the power of impeachment over the Presidetn? (It might be good to remember that Huffington fronted the civilian front to impeach Bill Clinton with a website devoted to this subject.)

Clarence Thomas failed to report wife’s income, watchdog says
    By Kim Geiger, Washington Bureau
    January 22, 2011

Virginia Thomas earned over $680,000 from conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation over 5 years, a group says. But the Supreme Court justice did not include it on financial disclosure forms.
    Reporting from Washington —

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed to report his wife’s income from a conservative think tank on financial disclosure forms for at least five years, the watchdog group Common Cause said Friday.

Between 2003 and 2007, Virginia Thomas, a longtime conservative activist, earned $686,589 from the Heritage Foundation, according to a Common Cause review of the foundation’s IRS records. Thomas failed to note the income in his Supreme Court financial disclosure forms for those years, instead checking a box labeled “none” where “spousal noninvestment income” would be disclosed.

    Did Obama Dye His Hair?

Obama looked damn good at last night’s State Dinner for Chinese president Hu Jintao. Maybe a little too good. His salt-and-pepper locks seemed noticeably darker. Did Barack Obama get a quickie dye job?

Take a look at these pictures, one taken the morning of the State Dinner and one taken later that night, at the dinner itself. It appears that Obama dipped into the White House salon in between, wiping out all the the distinguished grey. The Daily Mail thinks he wanted to impress the world on his big night—but maybe he just did it for Barack.

Imagine Obama dying his hair! What’s next, a nose job for Biden?

  8. We Support Keith Olbermann!

    http://leftaction.com/action/w

Keith Olbermann and MSNBC are parting ways:

Cable host Keith Olbermann and news channel MSNBC abruptly parted ways on Friday night, as the network announced that his contract had ended and the last installment of his show would air that evening.

The surprise announcement strips MSNBC of its most-watched evening anchor after an increasingly tempestuous relationship, coming less than three months after the network briefly suspended the fiery host.

To say this is shocking would be an understatement. For quite some time, Keith was frankly one of the news media’s few unabashed, unapologetic voices on behalf of progressive causes and policies. And he was this voice at a time when we needed him most — during the height of the Bush administration.

Rumors are swirling, guessing is rampant, but for now, we simply don’t know all the details or why this happened.

What we do know, however, is that for a long time, Keith has been someone we could count on for support. And now it’s only appropriate that he be able to count on us for our support.

Write a message today, thank Keith for his work, and let him know that he has your support.

I’d support is DIVERSITY on MSNBC. How about hiring Asians, more Blacks, Hispanics, Indians. We need more diverse voices on airwaves. PERIOD.

Yes, let’s thank Keith Olberman for his work, and MOVE on. Get some fresh faces and clear, informative voices on MSNBC, then maybe I’d be inclined to watch it again.

  9. Republican Mayor: The Stimulus Package ‘Worked,’ It’s ‘Unfair’ For House GOP To Attack It

    http://thinkprogress.org/2011/01/21/tulsa-mayor-stimulus/#comments

Yesterday, the House GOP lawmakers quickly manufactured an unwieldy proposal to axe $2.5 trillion from the federal budget. In a tribute to zeal, Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) new Spending Reduction Act not only scraps 15 percent of federal jobs but also eliminates “all remaining stimulus funding.” Because, as they say, this is what the American people want.

Unfortunately for Republicans, the American people don’t live in their delusion. They live in states and cities — both of which depend on the Recovery Act and will get hosed by this repeal. Bristling under the GOP’s out-of-touch demonization of the Recovery Act, even Republican mayors like Tulsa, OK Mayor Dewey Bartlett are pointing out just how “unfair” a repeal of the Act would be. Speaking at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in DC yesterday, Bartlett”it worked“:

“I would prefer them to at least give us an opportunity to use them for another reasonably supportive project,” Bartlett said.

In Washington for the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Bartlett again made positive comments about the impact of the 2009 stimulus package, which was opposed by every Oklahoma Republican in Congress.

“It worked,” said the mayor, who is also a Republican.[…]

Bartlett conceded he did not know whether any of Tulsa’s funding would be covered by the proposal but made it clear he did not favor a repeal.

“To me, that seems a little unfair,” he said.

Winfrey promises to spill family secret Monday

By LYNN ELBER, AP Television Writer Lynn Elber, Ap Television Writer –
Fri Jan 21, 7:04 pm ET

LOS ANGELES – Oprah Winfrey has staged many a family reunion on her talk show. But on Monday’s episode, she promises, the drama will be about her.

Winfrey told viewers Thursday that she will have a reunion of her own on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” She wouldn’t say with whom — only that it involves something she’s learned about recently and is known to only a few people close to her.

“I thought I’d seen it all. But this, my friends, is the miracle of all miracles,” Winfrey says in a promotional spot for the show. The word “miracle” appears on screen, reinforcing her pronouncement.

“I was given some news that literally shook me to my core. This time, I’m the one being reunited,” she said. “I was keeping a family secret for months, and on Monday you’re going to hear it straight from me.”

Her production company, Harpo, declined to provide further details Friday.

Given Winfrey’s tangled family history, the possibilities for her reunion are many.

She was born to unmarried teenagers, Vernon Winfrey and Vernita Lee, and raised at various times by a grandmother, her mother, and her father and stepmother in Mississippi, Wisconsin and Tennessee, according to Winfrey and various biographies.
