Johnny Gill (born May 22, 1966) is an American R&B singer-songwriter best known for his romantic ballads and as a member of New Edition. His signature song “My, My, My” has been included on numerous romantic compilations.
Gill was born in Washington, D.C., the son of a minister. He started singing at age five in a family gospel group called “Wings Faith” which included his brothers Bobby, Jeff, and Randy Gill (himself a solo recording artist and member of the group II D Extreme). His recording career began in 1983 when his childhood friend, singer Stacy Lattisaw, convinced him to record a demo. This demo fell into the hands of the president of Atlantic Records, and his self-titled debut album was released shortly thereafter, featuring the minor hit, “Super Love”. Gill then teamed up with Stacy for a duet album, which featured their first hit together, “Perfect Combination.” A second album on Atlantic Records, yielded the song “Half Crazy,” which is still a fan favorite.
Texas Group Will Offer Scholarships To White Men Only

A new Texas non-profit plans to extend scholarship support to those they say are undersupported in higher education: white men.
The group, called the Former Majority Association for Equality, was formed by Texas State University student Colby Bohannan and others and hopes to provide four $500 scholarships to white men by July (donations are being accepted via the group’s website).
The group’s mission statement says that it wants to “provide monetary aid to those that have found the scholarship application process difficult because they do not fit into certain categories or any ethnic group.”
Bohannan told Reuters that the group’s goal “is actually just to help students.”
“We are not trying to jump on any political agenda or bandwagon,” he said.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Bohannan is in fact in the minority in Texas, where non-Hispanic whites compose less than half the populace.
Bohannan told the Statesman that he felt “excluded” when applying for college scholarships, many of which target minorities.
“If everyone else can find scholarships, why are we left out?” he said.
As of press time, the group has received $581 in donations.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver called Sarah Palin a “Froot Loop” for criticizing the Obama administration’s healthy eating initiatives, and said getting healthy foods to kids is a civil rights issue.
The U.S. is in a “really dark moment” when it comes to children’s health and needs to make it a priority, said Oliver, who tried to transform the diets of a West Virginia town with his 2010 ABC show “Jamie’s Food Revolution” and is filming a new version in Los Angeles.
Improving what children eat at school alone can have a far-reaching, positive effect on their habits and health as adults, Oliver said Saturday during an Associated Press interview at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival.
He said he doesn’t have much faith that government will lead the way, but said the Obama administration is on the right track.
Palin, in contrast, “clearly on this issue is a Froot Loop,” he said.
The president recently signed a bill that increases the federal reimbursement for free school lunches and expands the government’s nutrition requirements for the free and reduced meals it subsidizes to cover all foods sold during school hours.
Al-Qaida Calls For Uprising Against Arab Rulers

CAIRO — Al-Qaida’s offshoot in Yemen urged Muslims to revolt against Arab rulers and establish governments based on Islamic law, according to an audio tape posted Saturday on militant websites.
The appeal came at a time of growing political unrest in the Arab world. Popular uprisings have deposed the leaders of Tunisia and Egypt, and anti-government protests are gaining momentum in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain.
The speaker on the audio tape is identified as Ibrahim al-Rubeish, a former detainee at the U.S.-run Guantanamo Bay lockup. The tape was produced by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, a Yemen-based offshoot of the terror network, according to the SITE Intel group, a U.S.-based group that monitors extremist websites.
In the 10-minute recording, Al-Rubeish criticized Saudi Arabia for providing a haven for deposed Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
He also said toppling longtime rulers is not enough and that new governments must be established based on Islamic religious law, or Shariah.
“One tyrant goes, only to be replaced another who may fix for the people some of their worldly issues by offering job opportunities and increasing their income, but the greater problem remains,” al-Rubeish said, according to a translation provided by SITE.

Scarborough: Glenn Beck Is ‘Losing It Before Our Eyes’

On Friday’s “Morning Joe,” Joe Scarborough said Glenn Beck has gone “out of control” and is “bad for the conservative movement.”
Scarborough started by playing a clip of a particularly agitated and angry Beck. He was not happy with what he saw.
“I’ve been telling conservatives for about two years, this guy is bad for the movement,” Scarborough said. “This guy is losing it before our eyes. He’s bad for the conservative movement. He’s bad for the Republican Party. He’s bad for Fox News…even guys over at Fox News have to start thinking, this can’t last. He’s out of control.”
Scarborough then read a blog post by conservative commentator Peter Wehner. “Glenn Beck has become the most disturbing personality on cable television,” Wehner wrote. Scarborough clearly seemed to agree with that assessment.
“He throws bombs out all the time,” he said. “It’s the conspiracy theories that are the most dangerous because that gets people acting out.”
Scarborough has previously said that Beck is delivering a “vile message” to the country.

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates bluntly told an audience of West Point cadets on Friday that it would be unwise for the United States to ever fight another war like Iraq or Afghanistan, and that the chances of carrying out a change of government in that fashion again were slim.
“In my opinion, any future defense secretary who advises the president to again send a big American land army into Asia or into the Middle East or Africa should ‘have his head examined,’ as General MacArthur so delicately put it,” Mr. Gates told an assembly of Army cadets here.
That reality, he said, meant that the Army would have to reshape its budget, since potential conflicts in places like Asia or the Persian Gulf were more likely to be fought with air and sea power, rather than with conventional ground forces.
“As the prospects for another head-on clash of large mechanized land armies seem less likely, the Army will be increasingly challenged to justify the number, size, and cost of its heavy formations,” Mr. Gates warned.

Today, February 25, 2011, President Obama named Jeremy Bernard as the new Special Assistant to the President and Social Secretary. Jeremy sets a couple of firsts for this position: 1) he is the first male and 2) he is the first openly homosexual person in this position.
The blogosphere is starting to create some buzz and the blogs are ramping up especially since the President ordered the Justice department to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act, which they are constitutionally required to do.
Ted Johnson of Variety reports a shared vision between Obama and Jeremy: President Obama said in a statement: “Jeremy shares our vision for the White House as the People’s House, one that celebrates our history and culture in dynamic and inclusive ways.”
Obama Foodorama tells us where Jeremy came from: A native of San Antonio, Texas, Bernard leaves a post at the US Embassy in Paris to become the first man in more than 200 years of White House history to be the chief host and event planner.
Queerty tells us Jeremy “was a superdelegate at the DNC, will work with the First Lady to decide whether to put out “the good china” when John Boehner comes over.”

Kathleen Parker OUT At ‘Parker Spitzer’

Kathleen Parker has been dropped from “Parker Spitzer,” and the show is being replaced by a new show called “In The Arena,” the network announced Friday.
In a memo to staff, CNN President Ken Jautz said that “In The Arena” would be an “ensemble” show, with “several newsmakers, guests and contributors joining Eliot Spitzer each night.” Among the regulars will be former Fox News anchor E.D. Hill and National Review writer Will Cain.
The reason given for Parker’s departure was her desire to focus on her syndicated column. In a statement, Parker said, “it was a difficult decision to scale back my column a few months ago and, with the show going in a new direction, it is a good time to move on.” But her exit comes after months of bad ratings and reports of heavy tension between her and Spitzer, as well as her and the show’s production staff.
In December, it was reported that Parker had threatened to quit the show, and had walked off the set in protest of what she felt was Spitzer’s domineering attitude. She acknowledged that there had been “editorial and political tensions” involved in the production of the show.
