Captain & Tennille are American pop music recording artists who achieved chart success from 1975 to 1980. The duo consists of “Captain” Daryl Dragon (born August 27, 1942), and Cathryn Antoinette “Toni” Tennille (born May 8, 1940), who are also married. They are best known for their singles “Love Will Keep Us Together” and “Do That to Me One More Time“. Their television variety series appeared on the ABC network in the 1976–77 season.

In 1971 Toni Tennille was the co-writer of an ecology-themed musical called Mother Earth. At that time, Daryl Dragon (son of composer Carmen Dragon) was the keyboardist for The Beach Boys. When Tennille’s show was getting ready to move from San Francisco’s Marines Memorial Theatre to Southern California’s South Coast Repertory, a call was put out for a replacement keyboardist. Dragon was in-between tours when he heard about the opening, went to audition for Tennille, and landed the gig.

A Brief Conversation with the Rude Mom Regarding the Rude Pundit’s Writing Style:
Mom: Did you have to say that about Lynne Cheney’s clitoris?

    RP: Yes. Yes, I did.

One of the last things the Rude Pundit got to do with his mom was sit in her hospital room at St. Luke’s in Houston and read her parts of his book that were about the times she took him to see Ronald Reagan and William F. Buckley and others, formative experiences in learning who deserves disdain and condemnation. As weak as she was, she laughed and tsked, as she always did when she read his work.

Those tsks and and laughs and eye rolls and comments will be dearly, dearly missed.

  3. Hey guys!

What’s up with Scott Walker signing an order to have the Senate Dems arrested? He is a mofo bully if there ever was one. Karma where are you?!

    • Wisconsin Senate Republicans Order The Arrest Of Senate Dems; Police Association Says No

      http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/wisconsin-police-association-republic

So the Wisconsin Senate has ordered the arrest of the Senate Democrats:

Senate Republicans Thursday ordered the arrest of their 14 Democratic colleagues, who fled the state two weeks ago to avoid a vote on Gov. Scott Walker’s controversial budget repair bill.

It’s unclear whether the resolution to force the senators back to the Capitol is constitutional. The state Constitution prohibits the arrest of legislators while in session unless they’re suspected of committing felonies, treason or breach of the peace.

Democrats say the Republicans have overreached, and have consulted an attorney for an opinion on whether the GOP actions are legal.

“The Republicans have gone around the bend,” said Sen. Chris Larson, D-Milwaukee. “They’ve just increased their bullying tactics and are producing an even greater divide in our state.”

James Troupis, a private attorney hired by Fitzgerald, contended Thursday that the move is legal. He cited a portion of the state Constitution that provides that each house “may compel the attendance of absent members.”

But Wisconsin police are saying they won’t and can’t enforce this. I am so used to authoritarian cops who don’t give a damn about anyone else’s rights that I’m deeply impressed by the Wisconsin cops who are refusing to allow themselves to be used against the governor’s political opponents. Let’s hear it for Jim Palmer!

Wow. Let’s hear it for the Wisconsin Professional Police Association. Today the organization slammed Senate Republicans after they ordered the detention of 14
Democratic Senators staying in Illinois “with or without force.” Here’s the statement by these defenders of civil liberties and democracy:

Politics aside, encouraging the forcible detention of duly elected lawmakers
because they won’t allow you to dictate with a free hand is an unreasonable
abuse of police power,” said WPPA Executive Director Jim Palmer. “Due to the fact that Wisconsin officers lack any jurisdiction across state lines, does Senator Fitzgerald intend to establish a ‘lawmaker border patrol? The thought of using law enforcement officers to exercise force in order to achieve a political objective is insanely wrong and Wisconsin sorely needs reasonable solutions and not potentially dangerous political theatrics.

    • The Tea Party is comprised entirely of bullies. It’s the Republican way and always has been. That’s the only way they know how to operate. We need to dig Jimmy Hoffa up.He’d fix their ass.I remember when I was a little boy(9 or 10 yrs. old)my dad carried his shotgun to the poling place(it was at my one room school house here in East Tn.)to vote Democrat. He wouldn’t have been allowed to vote without that gun. What an impression that made on me as I was with him that day.The bully republicans were there then and they’re here now! • Ametia,The last editorial I wrote to the Knoxville News sentinel was this:”The entire structure of our lives, the forty hour work week, the weekend, paid vacations, paid holidays, pensions, medical benefits and all other job perks are the result of and brought to you by the Labor Movement.Something to think about” That was all I wrote.Short and sweet but never published, but a couple weeks later columnists in the paper finally did write the same thing. Why is the truth so hard to get out to the world?I wrote an earlier one but it was erased from my Mac when it crashed recently and my old self can’t remember what it was about.Sorry! I like this site because I can vent and I need to.Thanx for listening. Ty M.

Biden takes on budget impasse, meets with congressional leaders today
    By Perry Bacon Jr.
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Thursday, March 3, 2011; 12:10 PM

Can Vice President Biden cut another deal with the Republicans?
The vice president, much-maligned at times for his penchant for saying the wrong thing, negotiated the December tax agreement with the GOP that both forestalled a tax increase for millions of Americans and gave President Obama a brief spike in the polls.

Now, Obama has dispatched Biden to work with the Republicans on an even more complicated issue: the federal budget for the rest of the year.

Criticized by Democrats, Republicans and even the press for not leading enough on the spending negotiations, Obama on Wednesday announced Biden, White House Chief of Staff William Daley and White House Budget Director Jacob Lew would start meeting with leaders of both parties to reach long-term budget agreement.

Biden will meet with congressional leaders from both parties Thursday afternoon. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) are slated to huddle with Biden, White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley and Office of Management and Budget Director Jack Lew at 4 p.m. in the Capitol.

Take a number and stick to ACTING, MATT!

Matt Damon Tells Piers Morgan He’s Disappointed By Barack Obama
    by Alex Alvarez | 8:09 am, March 3rd, 2011

Actor Matt Damon visited Piers Morgan’s CNN show, taking the time to promote his new movie, The Adjustment Bureau, and… weigh in on Barack Obama’s ability to govern. Palm, meet forehead. In Damon’s defense (Ed. note: …because I want nothing more than to run with him, hand in hand, along a beach in Aruba. In slow motion. While being 5 foot 8.), the actor was directly asked about his thoughts on Obama’s progress by Morgan after being asked whether he caught Sarah Palin’s Alaska. (Damon answered that, being the father of four daughters, he doesn’t have much time to watch TV.) Damon, you might recall, campaigned for Obama and was once quite a vocal supporter.
Damon’s response, which basically amounted to the actor expressing his disappointment in Obama, seemed articulate and well-reasoned enough, despite our personal apathy regarding celebrities’ political opinions. But his answer, and the fact that he was asked about this in the first place, brought to mind the criticism many celebrities received from the right (pundits and politicians alike) when either thoughtfully critiquing or hatefully bashing former president George W. Bush. A common theme seemed to be that many of those famous actors and athletes doing the bashing were just plain dumb and, as such, their political opinions shouldn’t be taken seriously.
But are celebrities still “dumb” if they criticize Obama, too? There are so many differences at play this time around. For one, there’s the stereotype that actors are all card-carrying members of the Hollywood Liberal Elite, partying it up with Arianna Huffington, sliding down rainbows with George Soros, and ravenously feasting on the souls of Republican babies. So when they repeatedly criticize a Republican president, it’s not unreasonable for some on the right to react with eye rolls and loud musings over why anyone cares about what celebrities have to say anyway, especially so much of the rhetoric against a politician proves redundant, predictable and mean-spirited. Then, there’s the fact that criticism of Bush was so prevalent as to be white noise: Over here, there’s Kanye West accusing the President of racism while standing next to a bewildered Mike Myers, over there is an article where actor Richard Dreyfuss voices his complaints with the Bush administration, and way back over here there’s a post titled “George Clooney (and his dad) vs. George W. Bush.” There simply hasn’t been a united celebrity front voicing criticism of or disappointment in Obama and his administration and so, whenever a celebrity does express disappointment or criticism, it seems the consensus is that it must be the result of some deep thinking and reflection.
We’d love to hear those who dismissed celebrities’ political opinions of Bush as being “dumb” weigh in regarding their criticism of Obama: Are they still dumb?
And, more importantly: When can we get TV show hosts and magazine writers to stop adding to the myth that no one happens to care what a celebrity thinks… unless that celebrity happens to agree with them?
In any case, here’s a snippet of Damon’s interview, via CNN. When you swoon, make sure it’s ever so slightly to the left:

John Edwards Adds Former Obama Lawyer Craig To Defense Team
Former North Carolina Senator and Democratic presidential contender John Edwards has brought in a new legal heavyweight to stand in his corner.

Edwards has enlisted former Obama White House counsel Gregory Craig to help convince federal prosecutors not to bring criminal charges against him in a long-running investigation into his campaign finances.

Craig tells NPR that a criminal indictment of Edwards for allegedly funneling donors’ money to the mother of his child would be unprecedented.

“We have consistently said we don’t think he violated any law,” Craig said. He’s joined Wade Smith and Jim Cooney, two North Carolina- based defense lawyers for Edwards, on the case.

Obama, Calderon to meet amid heightened tensions
By JULIE PACE, Associated Press Julie Pace, Associated Press – Thu Mar 3, 3:49 am ET
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon are meeting amid heightened tensions over violence at their shared border, though no major breakthroughs are expected on what’s quickly becoming a defining issue in the relationship between the North American allies.

Their meeting, scheduled for Thursday morning at the White House, comes three weeks after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata was shot to death in northern Mexico with a gun smuggled in from the U.S. The incident raised questions in the U.S. about Mexico’s ability to control violence and has Obama administration officials considering arming U.S. agents working across the border to ensure their safety.

“We have to make sure that those kinds of incidents are not repeated and to the extent that that involves the potential arming of them, that’s something I think we have to consider,” Attorney General Eric Holder told a congressional panel this week.

Administration officials said the White House has been working closely with Calderon’s government on how to protect U.S. personnel working in Mexico, but they wouldn’t say whether Obama would press the Mexican leader to allow U.S. agents to be armed.

  13. ‘A DOWNRIGHT TRAVESTY’

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/02/ohio-union-bill-aimed-at-_n_830565.html#comments

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The bargaining rights of public workers in Ohio would be dramatically reduced and strikes would be banned under a bill narrowly passed by the state Senate on Wednesday.

The GOP-backed measure that would restrict the collective bargaining rights of roughly 350,000 teachers, firefighters, police officers and other public employees squeaked through the state Senate on a 17-16 vote. Six Republicans sided with Democrats against the measure.

Firefighters and teachers shouted “Shame!” in the chamber as the legislation was approved and moved on to the GOP-controlled House, where it is likely to receive strong support.

The bill is similar to the Republican-supported collective bargaining bill in the Wisconsin legislature that has sparked national debate in its weakening of public employees’ ability to negotiate contracts – although there are differences between the two. Wisconsin’s bill exempts police and firefighters from the collective bargaining restrictions, while Ohio’s does not. And the bill there would affect 175,000 unionized public workers.
