Atlantic Starr was a 1980s R&B band. Among their biggest hits were “Always” and “Secret Lovers.”
The group was started in 1976 in White Plains, New York by trumpeter Duke Jones (who left the band prior to their first recordings), drummer Porter Carroll Jr., bassist Clifford Archer, percussionist and flautist Joseph Phillips, and three brothers: David Lewis (vocals and guitar), Wayne Lewis (keyboards and vocals), and Jonathan Lewis (percussion and trombone). Other members of the band were lead singer Sharon Bryant (who was later replaced by Barbara Weathers), trumpeter William Sudderth, and saxophonist Damon Rentie (who was replaced by Koran Daniels). In 1977 the band came to Westwood, California and performed on the nightclub scene under the name “Newban” which was changed on their debut hit single.

I’ve seen some fine wanking in my time but not like this. The man from CNBC is a master. Here’s what he said about the loss of life in Japan yesterday:
In these tough economic times, isn’t it nice to know that calamitous natural disasters needn’t have an adverse affect on your investment portfolio? After the 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan failed to induce a market nosedive, CNBC’s Larry Kudlow expressed his relief in terms that seemed to appall even his fellow cheerleaders for capitalism: “The human toll here,” he declared, “looks to be much worse than the economic toll and we can be grateful for that.”
His co-host later said that the US stock markets were up because traders saw the devastation in Japan as good economic news for America. Well, for American stocks anyway.

Sen. Randy Hopper’s Wife Tells Protesters Hopper Is Living with 25-year-old mistress in Madison
Update: Two sources in Fond du Lac close to the recall effort say the Hopper maid has signed the legal-sized recall sheet. The maid reportedly said it’s likely Hopper’s soon-to-be-ex wife will also sign the recall petition.

Recall target, Sen. Randy Hopper (R-Fond du Lac), talks a good game about family values.
But protesters outside the Hopper house this week in Fond du Lac were met by his wife who reportedly came out and told them: Hopper no longer lives there, but with his 25-year-old mistress in Madison.
No confirmation on whether the divorcing wife signed that petition to recall Hopper who represents Wisconsin Senate District 18.
Hopper has been a close ally with Gov. Scott Walker whose billionaire-funded attacks on Wisconsin families is drawing international attention and widespread condemnation.

NFL lockout is now in effect; pro football enters first work stoppage since 1987

National Football League team owners locked out the league’s players Saturday, shutting down professional football for the first time in 24 years and plunging the nation’s most popular and prosperous sport into a time of uncertainty.
The owners acted after labor talks with the players’ union collapsed Friday afternoon and players decertified the NFL Players Association, moving the bitter dispute into the courts and ending an era of NFL labor peace that had lasted since players went on strike in 1987.
Players left the downtown Washington office where talks were held late Friday afternoon, breaking off negotiations with the NFL and team owners over a new pact whose central issue is how to divide the $9 billion in annual revenue generated by the league. The two sides met Friday for a 16th day of mediated talks before reaching a stalemate.
The owners’ lockout was confirmed by a source shortly after midnight Saturday, soon after the labor deal expired. With the regular season about six months away, it is impossible to predict whether the labor strife will cost players and the league any games.
Decertifying the NFL Players Association enabled the players to file antitrust litigation against the owners, which they did late Friday, with superstar quarterbacks Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees among the 10 named plaintiffs. Lawyers for the players also announced that they are seeking an injunction to lift the lockout. The case is likely to end up before Minneapolis-based U.S. District Judge David S. Doty, who has overseen the NFL’s labor pact since 1993.

IWAKI, Japan — Japanese authorities confirmed Saturday that radiation had leaked from a quake-hit nuclear plant after an explosion destroyed a building at the site.
The blast at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility occurred just hours after officials said they feared the reactor could melt down.
Footage on Japanese TV showed that the walls of one building had crumbled, leaving only a skeletal metal frame standing. Its roof had also been blown off. Plumes of smoke spewed out of the plant, 20 miles from Iwaki.
