Paul Ryan’s Plan to Gut Medicare Stirs Anger at Town Halls: Naw Son, They’re Not Buying What You’re Selling

                                                          Still want this, AMERICA?

Speaker John Boehner supports the decimation of medicare.

***Notice the media is not giving these folks any air time for their very vocal, concerned, measured, legitimate, complaints.  These Americans are not your typical Tea Party plants, and they aren’t addressing the Democrats,; it’s the GOP, so SORRY, no media attention for you folks!

And if any of these people were rallying at town halls in 2009 during the healthcare debates or carrying signs April 15, 2009, 2010, or voted for the GOP Reps in 2010, they’re singing a different tune now.

Don’t fall for the ole Royal Wedding, American Idol, Donald Trumpster media coverage, folks.  The media doesn’t want to cover those concerned citizens above, because if they did, we wouldn’t have weeks of coverage on that loser Donald Trump.  The Paul Ryan bill is 2009 Health Care Debate Redux, only it’s not getting media attention, because the corporate-owned media wills it so.

Medicare is such a hot button in the political forum but now many people are knowledgeable regarding how it works. I think one of the hardest parts is finding the right medicare plan. I have been doing research for the last few months. I just wanted to make sure I was making the right decision. Recently I came across this site medicare . It does a great job matching you up with the right plan. After trying different sites this is the best one that I’ve encountered. Very user friendly.

GOP Freshmen On Medicare Attacks: Let’s Let Bygones Be Bygones
    Brian Beutler | May 11, 2011, 11:11AM

House Republican freshmen admit that their so-called “MediScare” attacks on Democrats helped them win a big majority in 2010. Democrats had voted for the health care law, which included $500 billion in “cuts” to Medicare — primarily slashing overpayments to private insurers — and Republican challengers never let them forget it.

Now, they say, it’s time to let bygones be bygones.

Nearly a dozen House Republican freshmen held a press conference outside the Capitol Tuesday morning to “wipe the slate clean,” and “hit the reset button.”
“Yeah, I mean there’s been — again, this is a both-sides issue,” said Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) when asked if GOP candidates and the NRCC had engaged in ‘MediScare’ tactics last year. “To say that one side is blameless in trying to use issues to win votes is just dishonest.”

On Tuesday, Kinzinger and 41 of his colleagues sent a letter to President Obama, asking him to rein in Democratic attacks on GOP members who voted for the House budget, which includes a plan to privatize Medicare and cap spending on the program.

The GOP is crazy and Americans are crazy if they vote more Republicans into the House and Senate in 2012. I don’t think they will because Democrats will be riding President Awesome’s coattails.

  5. Ametia:

    I have a question for you – on a scale from 1 to 10:

    1) Could you rate the THREAT that Paul Ryan and the Republicans are to Medicare?

    2) Could you rate where the THREAT from the actuarial tables which show the programs crashing demise as costs increase to an unsustainable rate registers with you?

    http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/115xx/doc11579/06-30-LTBO.pdf

    Do you notice a PATTERN?

    From:
    * The insolvent schools of Detroit
    * The layoffs that happened in Milwaukee long before the “Republican Governor” got into office
    * The shift in Newark from blaming the other Democratic faction for the problems into blaming the new “Republican Governor” for cutting the aid to the cities as he tries to sure up the state budget hole.
    * And Now Medicare

It seems that people like you prefer to JOUST with your IDEOLOGICAL ENEMIES, selling the notion that THEY ARE THE THREAT, than you are willing to see how the PRESENT FACTS and the future projections will move you to a point where OBFUSCATION IS NO LONGER AN OPTION.

Eighty-Nine Arrested Protesting Paul Ryan’s Medicaid Cuts
    Allison Kilkenny
    May 3, 2011

Capitol Police arrested eighty-nine disability rights activists on Monday following the group’s occupation of the Cannon House Office Building rotunda.

The disability rights group ADAPT staged the event to protest Representative Paul Ryan’s Medicaid cuts, which would force people with disabilities to live in nursing homes rather than in their own houses.

Additionally, the House-passed budget resolution would turn Medicaid into block grants and reduce the program’s spending by more than $700 billion over ten years.

Combined with other Medicaid cuts at the state level, the protesters said, the block grant plan could restrict funding so much that people with disabilities would not have enough public support to be able to live independently.

The activists were charged with “unlawful conduct,” a misdemeanour offense. Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, a spokeswoman for the Capitol Police, said most of the protesters will “probably be released unless they have other outstanding offenses on their records,” Politico reports.

Nursing home residents in Illinois also turned out to protest proposed Medicaid cuts. Governor Pat Quinn’s budget reduces Lee Manor’s funding by $500,000, a crushing blow that would cut staff and services at the nursing center.

“This is a family community,” said Julia Conkin, 39, a wheelchair-bound resident at the center who spoke to a crowd of more than 150 people at a rally Monday. If the cuts are passed “it’s going to feel like I’m at a cold, business place instead of my home.”

Quinn’s plans include cutting Medicaid by 6 percent, or $70 million in state funds, which would result in a federal match of an additional $70 million also being wiped out. Nearly 7,000 healthcare jobs would be lost, according to Pat Cornstock, executive director of Health Care Council of Illinois.

“It doesn’t make sense to us that the cuts are made on the backs of the elderly,” Comstock shouted to the crowd, which held colorful signs and frequently chanted “Stop the cuts” as they residents, staff, and family members sat outside the rear of the nursing home.

“Exxon Mobil is by far the most profitable company in the new Fortune 500 list, riding “high oil prices to a staggering $30 billion in income” in 2010. Exxon made over $10 billion more than fellow oil giant Chevron, the third most profitable company (AT&T edged out Chevron for the number two spot). ConocoPhillips’ $11.4 billion in profits put it in the 16th spot, giving the three oil giants a combined $60.9 billion in profits in 2010.”

“Today, the Republicans in the House of Representatives celebrated this massive redistribution of wealth from American families to oil executives. With the support of 7 oil-patch Democrats, 234 Republicans voted to block a bill to eliminate a $1.8 billion annual subsidy that treats oil drilling as “domestic manufacturing…”

Rep. Webster Defends GOP Plan To Change Medicare
    by Greg Allen
    April 27, 2011

Florida freshman Rep. Daniel Webster bucked the Tea Party line recently and voted to support the House spending deal pushed by Speaker John Boehner. Days later, the Republican also voted to support a GOP plan to privatize Medicare — an issue of special interest to Florida seniors.

    • creolechild says:

Good morning Ametia and SoutherGirl2! I think the responses which were captured in the excellent lineup you all provided caught the GOP by complete surprise! And I have no idea why they were surprised. Medicare prevents some seniors with the only retirement income they will ever have, thus keeping them from becoming impoverished. Imagine the financial obligations that the offspring of seniors would have to commit to in order to ensure their parents were taken care of .

“Whoops! House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) is in full walkback mode after admitting the obvious: that Republicans will never, under these political circumstances, prevail in their quest to privatize and slash Medicare — and thus well over 200 Members of his caucus just walked the political plank for nothing.”

Based on an interview with Cantor, the Washington Post reports, “Senior Republicans conceded Wednesday that a deal is unlikely on a contentious plan to overhaul Medicare and offered to open budget talks with the White House by focusing on areas where both parties can agree, such as cutting farm subsidies. … Republicans recognize they may need to look elsewhere to achieve consensus after President Obama ‘excoriated us’ for a proposal to privatize Medicare.”

    BREAKING NEWS!

PAUL RYAN & GOP’S BUDGET PLAN IS A FRAUD!!!!!

    • creolechild says:

What hasn’t received much media attention is the fact that Ryan’s budget bill contains not one but two individual mandates for health care. Isn’t that special?

“….Simon Lazarus raises an important observation: the highly-touted House GOP budget plan, as shaped by Paul Ryan, includes a health care mandate, too. In fact, it includes more than one. The Ryan budget would reshape Americans’ access to health insurance mainly through two provisions, both of which pressure people to purchase private health insurance to an extent and through mechanisms that are materially indistinguishable from the supposedly toxic Obamacare mandate. One of these Ryan budget proposals — as yet little noticed by pundits or politicians — is almost an exact copy of its equivalent in the Affordable Care Act.”

“Under both provisions, the result is the same: People who choose to carry health insurance have a lower tax bill than they would if they chose not to. In terms of their respective potential impact on individuals’ bank accounts and tax liability, the manner in which they affect individuals’ financial incentives, and hence the constraining effect on individuals’ financial choices to either buy or forgo health insurance, the two “mandate” provisions are identical. (Indeed, in most cases, the financial difference for the individual taxpayer made by the Republican tax credit would be greater — i.e., more “coercive” — than the ACA tax penalty.)”

  11. House Republicans regroup amid Medicare anger As Ryan and other congressmen feel the heat, GOP confers on refining message

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42773405/ns/politics-capitol_hill

ORLANDO, Fla. — Freshman Rep. Daniel Webster was armed with a rainbow of graphs and pie charts, ready to make the GOP’s case for budget cuts before his own constituents. He was barely a minute into his prepared remarks Tuesday when the yelling started.

The first heckler shouted his doubts about the Florida congressman’s promise to do what is right in Washington. From there, the hour-long meeting in Orlando was filled with a constant stream of boos and questioners in the crowd of 300 shouting over each other.

Twelve minutes into his remarks, Webster couldn’t be heard over the shouting on both sides. He tried to continue but then stood quietly for a minute smiling, his hands clasped together in front.

The Republican plan to fundamentally restructure Medicare and cut social safety net programs like food stamps and Medicaid has at times been a raucously tough sell as its supporters head home and meet with their constituents, including Democrats organized against them. Even the architect of the plan, Rep. Paul Ryan, has been booed, though many of those attending four meetings Tuesday in his home state of Wisconsin were supportive.

    The heat is on now…

we must spread the word about VOUCHERCARE.

I thought the Sista spoke eloquently about Medicaid and how it’s been demonized (you know I agree), and we have to spread the word about that too.

Paul Ryan Gets Grilled at Town Hall Meeting -AGAIN! LOL

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (WTAQ) – Paul Ryan explained his plan to revamp Medicare to his constituents in Lake Geneva today. But they appeared to be more interested in jobs and ending the wars in the Middle East.

About 200 people filled a hall in Lake Geneva where Ryan – the GOP House Budget Committee chairman from Janesville – held one of almost two dozen town meetings during the congressional break.

Ryan opened the session with a discussion about the economy, and his plans to reform the federal budget. The Lake Geneva group was an older crowd. But instead of quizzing Ryan about his plans to cut Medicare spending, they asked why the tax code favored businesses.

They also asked why nearby Janesville still has double-digit unemployment almost two-and-a-half years after General Motors closed – and why US troops are still in Iraq and Afghanistan.
