  1. Bob Schieffer: Trump Guilty Of ‘Racism’ (VIDEO)

Bob Schieffer didn’t hold back in his criticism of Donald Trump on Wednesday’s “CBS Evening News.” In an unusually unvarnished comment, he accused Trump of peddling “racism” through his comments about President Obama’s academic qualifications.

Trump has received substantial negative attention for saying that he is suspicious about how Obama was admitted to Columbia and Harvard. Schieffer told Katie Couric, “that’s just code for saying he got into law school because he’s black. This is an ugly strain of racism that’s running through this whole thing. We can hope that kind of comes to an end too, but we’ll have to see.”

Your sympathy shouldn’t be for Obama, who will be fine, or me, who will also be fine. But this line of questioning attacks the societal contract which we preach to black kids everyday. Go to school, work hard, bust your ass, and you’ll be respected. Except not really.

You have to get the level of crazy here. This is a guy who inherited 400 million from his father, and is being praised by one “serious conservative” is in the paper of record praising him as a populist champion for attacking a dude who worked his way out of the home of a teen mother to the Ivy Leagues.

I don’t want to overstate this, but I think Obama is very much a living representation of what we, as black people, hope for our kids. This is what people meant when they said, “Now I can truly look in my child’s eyes and say, ‘You can be anything.'”

When “Serious People” excuse this, or provide a platform for it, or treat it like it’s intelligent, they undermine the efforts of black parents, who have enough work to do as it is. They provide fuel for the cynicism, and nihilism we have to confront every day.

    I take that very seriously.
