Video | Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, (D Texas) Says Congress Is Complicating Debt Ceiling Because of The President’s Race

Like 3 Chics, we know Americans have been following the beltway drama of the GOP and the need to raise America’s debt ceiling.  If the raising of the debt ceiling is just another procedural duty of congress, why haven’t we done this already; what’s the REAL hold up?

Did Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee throw the Race card on the table yesterday?

From The Hill:

“I do not understand what I think is the maligning and maliciousness [toward] this president,” said Jackson Lee, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “Why is he different? And in my community, that is the question that we raise. In the minority community that is question that is being raised. Why is this president being treated so disrespectfully? Why has the debt limit been raised 60 times? Why did the leader of the Senate continually talk about his job is to bring the president down to make sure he is unelected?”

Watch the video and you decide.  Is Rep. Jackson Lee playing the race card?

You can view Rep. Jackson Lee’s address here on C-Span.

… Jeffy poos concerned about POTUS’ empathy vs. the SCOTUS delivering a consensus on CITIZNES UNTIED and political campaign donations.Corporations viewed and treated as a seperate entity.

President Barack Obama stated that the decision “gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington — while undermining the influence of average Americans who make small contributions to support their preferred candidates”.[41] Obama later elaborated in his weekly radio address saying, “this ruling strikes at our democracy itself” and “I can’t think of anything more devastating to the public interest”.[42] On January 27, 2010, Obama further condemned the decision during the 2010 State of the Union Address, stating that, “Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law[43] to open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities.

  3. Ca. Black Republican activist quits party disgusted with the racism

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/06/13/984646/-Ca-Black-Republican-activist-quits-party-disgusted-with-the-racism

Ken Barnes a Black Republican activist from Sacramento quit the party in disgust because of the constant racist depictions of President Obama. Barnes has been a Republican activist for the last 13 years, and he held a number of party posts over those years including serving on the California Republican Party Executive Committee.

This comes from a blistering OpEd Barnes wrote in the Sacramento Bee:

Racist Cartoon of Obama forces me to leave GOP Last year alone, I donated more than 400 hours of my time to the Republican Party and made financial contributions to a number of Republican candidates.

As of late, however, when I look at myself in the mirror there is one question which perplexes me: Can I, in good conscience, remain affiliated with an organization whose message purveyors of racism and bigotry find attractive?

The latest incident in a string of tawdry, race-based actions was the promotion of a racist cartoon by elected Orange County Republican Party Central Committee member Marilyn Davenport. The cartoon depicted President Barack Obama and his parents as chimpanzees, while simultaneously implying that the president is not a legitimate American, but rather an African-born interloper.

Over the past two years, we have seen Republicans use long-held racist imagery in portrayals of Obama. The president has been depicted as a communist witch doctor, a man inclined to plant watermelons on the White House lawn, and we watched in disbelief as his face was placed on an “Obama Buck Food Stamp” along with stereotyped pictures of fried chicken, barbecue ribs, Kool-Aid and the obligatory watermelon.

What does any of this have to do with public policy or conservative values? Here is a man who excelled academically at the finest schools in the world, has a wonderful in-tact family, worked hard and rose to become president of the United States. Yet in spite of his accomplishments, the president is still labeled an illegitimate, socialist, African witch doctor and has his face superimposed on a chimpanzee.

If this can be done to a black man who is the leader of the free world, how long will it be before fellow Republicans insert my face on a chimpanzee?

That’s right; take a look in the mirror, folks. Although, I’m certain some of the mirrors would crack into a gazillion pieces.

  4. All I have to say here is: Sing it sister and bring it home! I hope more in the caucus and in our congress and Senate will start speaking out like this.

    • My god. I made the mistake of reading the attached comments, and they think Sheila is wrong. If fact, let’s just say, they were not very kind about her also.

I think it is bigger than racism though. It is also issues of hurt pride and anger over this junior senator become the POTUS after two years in the Senate. The way the dems treat him makes me more angry than the repubs. I expect that, but I do not expect the progressives to be unwilling to stand behind decisions that he makes. As stated before, just the mention of looking at SS is enough for the dems to cut him off at the knees. So, I may have to backtrack now. In writing this, it has occurred to me that they may be jealous of him, but I think they may see him as inferior as a black man.

Shame on all of them. dr

      • Ametia says:

Right now in this country; NOTHING is bigger than racism. It’s an UGLY stain on America. It must be EXTINGUISHED! Your view is your view Dorothy. I too lived through segregation; and I know racism when I see. I’ve lived it.

You and I both know that some white folks would throw out the pot with the piss, rather than stand behind the POTUS to help affect in real change in this country; be they dem or repub. and the house negroes who will do whatever they can to help denigrate this man, because of their own insecurities, and black self-loathing.

If it is NOT about race; than race should NEVER enter the discussion, but we know the veiled codes, dog whistles and racist rants.

We’ve been watching from behind for centuries, while they’ve been marching ahead with this ugly, ingrained construct called RACISM.

      • ALL OF THIS!

      • Ametia, I didn’t know how else to reply to these words:

“Right now in this country; NOTHING is bigger than racism.”

Spot on! Nailed it! Too true! You have totally got this one that I have been trying for some time to get some people to really grasp but they don’t want to and they move on to other things. We really have to deal with this issue, not just sweep it under some rug til the next time.

OMG! It makes me really angry when racism is denied as a factor in all our current politics.

Sorry, if I got carried away but I do get angry…..

        • Ametia says:

You can speak your truth here, Aquagranny. Nothing gets me ready to take off my hoop earrings than a denial of racism, when I know it exists. It is pervasive, and it permeates the fiber of our society.

No, we will not sweep it under the rug here at 3 Chics; not EVER.

      • You’re not getting carried away. Call it out!

      • opulent says:

I agree Ametia! Nothing is bigger than racism. It fuels all the vitriol and creates the atmosphere that makes it acceptable for the gross incivility. It started at the SOTU before any major policies had been implemented.

        RACISM!! is all this is.

    • Ametia says:

Yes, youtube, AOl, Yahoo, and a host of these online sites have the vilest, crudest, most digusting racist comments in regards to posts about Black people, and especially POTUS & FLOTUS. Just absolutely the most hateful shit. And what exactly has either one of these fine people ever done to these folks, except occupy the White House, and try to serve ALL Americans.

  8. Ametia says:

…AND let’s not forget the house negroes who are used as tools to disrepect and bash the president

    • BOOT LICKING SHUCKIN’ & BUCKIN NEGROES!

      • OMG!. I did not mean it was not racism. I understand that it is a vile and dangerous aspect of our society and Obama is treated like a piece of dirt because of that. When I said it is bigger, all I meant was there are other issues attached to the racial hatred of Obama. I have no doubt that probably 2/3 of elected officials are racist. Wow! Would you rather I did not post here anymore?

        • Dorothy, you’re most welcomed here. And I mean that! Don’t think for a second that we don’t want you to comment here. 3 Chics knows you’re a huge supporter of this President. What we’re saying is racism is the cancerous sore that’s fueling this opposition against the President. The republicans oppose the President on things they agree with. The blatant disrespect is beyond the pale. When you have Mitch McConnell on the House floor saying a debt solution is “unattainable” while “this” President is in office, & his main goal is make PBO a one term President, it becomes very obvious racism is at the core. We’re on the same team here. The last thing we need is become divided. We see the racism because we live it every single day. So many times we don’t say anything but there comes a time when it’s so foul, vile & nasty that we have to speak out about it & call it what it is. I have lived through having to go through the back door at restaurants, waiting in line at the grocery store while whites were waited on first, separate waiting rooms at the clinic, etc. I could go on & on but it gets to be too depressing. When you see adults attacking a 12 year old child and calling this innocent child the most vulgar names imaginable, it’s racism that’s fueling it. What decent human being would do that to a child? Racism is an ugly cancerous stain on America. The only way to stop it is for us to join together and denounce it wherever it rears it’s ugly head. We’re on the same team, Dorothy!

      • Ametia says:

You’re welcome to post at anytime,Dorothy. We got it. There’s always something deeper buried under racism; unfortunately, all we get to see is the ugliness of racism

      • I cannot decide if I dislike cornel or tavis the most. Wasn’t that a hoot when cornel said he didn’t have tickets to the inauguration, but the bell hop did. You know what cornel? Why would the president have to kiss your butt? What did you do for him other than be critical of him and act as if you are his superior?

McConnell: Stopping Obama’s re-election still ‘single most important’ goal

Even with the country on the brink of default, the Senate’s highest ranking Republican says his “single most important” goal is to make Barack Obama a one-term president.

“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told National Journal’s Major Garrett in October.

Fox News’ Bret Baier asked McConnell Sunday if that was still his major objective.

“Well, that is true,” McConnell replied. “That’s my single most important political goal, along with every active Republican in the country.”

REALLY, IS IT NOW, Mitch? What about jobs and the economy, mr. McConnell?

    • Mitch McConnell can bite…..

I have lots of things to say but I’m trying real hard to clean up my language so I can be a good role model for my grandkiddos….

Oh, fuck that! I want that sorry offspring of a turd to eat pig shit and vomit for days. I want his tongue to rot so he can’t talk. I despise that sorry chinless bastard and son of a diseased goat.

Did I upset any one here?

      • Not at all. Speak your mind, AG! We have to call this ish out. I’m at the point where I’m thinking what will they do next and I’m sick of it.

      • Ametia says:

BWA HA HA. Are the kiddos in bed? Naw you didn’t upset me, AG.

Even when we disagree, we can agree to disagree here.

      • You sweet woman, can do not wrong in my book. I adore you Aquagranny. You are a Queen in my heart. Your energy and your humor and determination are something we all can appreciate. dr

    • Ametia and Southern Girl, I am so relieved that you did not think I was in anyway undermining the racial hated of PBO. I felt sick to think you might misunderstand me. Actually, this man, PBO, has controlled my life since 2007. I think my husband might think me a bit crazy, but so be it. I think he is getting used to the drill. Obama, Obama, Obama.

      • Dorothy, we’re all in this together! And we’re going to stick together like velcro to support this President & help him to get re-elected. A Big Up to you for your boots on the ground work.

  10. majii says:

The racist tools can clothe this in any language they choose to use. I grew up under segregation, and what they have been doing to PBO can only be called one thing and one thing only: racism. Thanks, Ametia, for shining a light on a subject that has not been discussed nearly enough since PBO’s election. I’m sick and tired of the racism toward our dear president being portrayed as “policy differences” while every ugly thing under the sun is being said and done to him. Enough is enough. I posted this on my FB page, along with separate posts for each of the videos. I’m in a fighting mood, and it’s time for the haters to reveal themselves or STHU. As Judy Judy said, “Don’t pee on my leg, and tell me it’s raining.” D@mn straight.

    • Ametia says:

You know it, majii. I know folks who read the Economist , a conservative magazine that called out the Republicans and their shenanigans with the debt ceiling. They read the Wall Street Journal-Rupert Murdock=FOX and know first hand the racist antics of theTea Party, yet they tell me, they aren’t racist, yet won’t give FULL-THROATED oppostion to the racist behavior.

Please! How can you be associated with the above, and not call it out, yet deny being racist?

    • Speak on it, Majii! I’ve been black longer than 3 days. Black people know racism when we see it. We’ve been black TOO long not to know when to identify it. If folks don’t want to be called out for the racist views, then I suggest they change their ways.

      • Ametia says:

Yepper! Look in the mirror, and do your OWN work, folks. I’m not going to make it comfortable for you to remainn racist, by not OWNING your shit!

      • AMEN! Folks need to OWN their racism! No one is going to soften it up anymore. I’ll be damn if I turn the other cheek. Those days are long gone.

      • Ametia says:

For realz, SG2. These videos and articles show the UGLINESS that is RACISM. These folks get the media coverage by the racist media. I don’t give a flying fuck what these talking heads say about not being racist. If you cover these idiots and prop them up as viable, you are just as complicit in their racist behavior.

MSNBC is guilty of showcasing these cast of characters on the regular: Pat BuCKKKLANAN, Joey -deadinternintheofice- Scarborough, Dylan Ratigan, Mark Halperin…

Joe Wilson, Jeff Sessions, Mitch McConnell, Haley Barbour, Eric Cantor, these southern crackas…..

    • Sing it, Majji! I’m getting real sick of skating around all the racism too.

    • Nice one majii. He is a dear president who is treated like he is pond scum. I am sick of these damned “progessives” who work to destroy and undermine him. The way he has handled this debt ceiling is stunning. Yet, all you hear is he is a sell out. It is like Lawrence said, the left supported Bill not matter what. They supported the shrub to get political points, but they fight our president. It seems they are only willing to tolerate PBO.

I was reading on a site this evening and the feature of the site had been that wonderful video of the president talking with students from the right, left and independents. Holy Crap, they had to call him a republican sell-out. I wish shame on everyone of these asses.

I will be 70 in two more years, and I hope I live long enough to see this man truly honored historically.

  13. Rep. Eric Cantor Tells Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu: New GOP Majority Will ‘Serve As A Check On The Administration’

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/12/eric-cantor-benjamin-netanyahu-israel_n_782738.html

NEW YORK — Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday during a meeting in New York that the new GOP majority in the House will “serve as a check” on the Obama administration, a statement unusual for its blunt disagreement with U.S. policy delivered directly to a foreign leader.

  14. Ametia says:

“I am particularly sensitive to the fact that only this president — only this one, only this one — has received the kind of attacks and disagreement and inability to work, only this one,” said Jackson Lee from the House floor.

“Read between the lines,” she continued. “What is different about this president that should put him in a position that he should not receive the same kind of respectful treatment of when it is necessary to raise the debt limit in order to pay our bills, something required by both statute and the 14th amendment.

Jackson Lee concluded by saying that she hoped someone would step up and say that what appears obvious to her is not in fact true.

    • President Barack Obama is BLACK…that’s why! Case closed! Sheila is NOT playing the race card…the republicans have been playing the race card every since January 20th 2009 because they can’t handle a black President. They think the White House belongs to them.

    • Ametia says:

I don’t give a rat’s ass about Jane Hamsher and crew; let their white bretheren and other folks take them to task on their grifting and loathing of the POTUS. I’ll not hold my breath for a multitude of folks stepping up and calling out the BLATANT RACISM. They’re worried about the next campaign cycle and winning elections.

      • Why aren’t other Democrats in Congress calling out the republicans on this blatant racism? Their silence is deafening. I see them. After President Obama leaves office, I’m thinking the Democratic Party can kiss my ass goodbye!

      • opulent says:
