REV AL BREAKS IT DOWN ABOUT ROMNEY’S “ENVY of the RICH” REMARK

Hat tip MY Black Austin

Mitt says that some of us progressives are envious of rich folks, and that we want to change A-merry-ca. Mitt wants to restore A-merry-ca to what it was: that “shining city on a hill”. (Was that the Gipper or Flipper?) Flipper, some of us weren’t too welcome in that city, so pardon me if I am not too enthusiastic about going back.

Flipper is right about one thing, we do want to change A-merry-ca. We want to make sure that folks like him don’t continue to get rich on the backs of other people, and that everyone will have a chance to “lead the fabulous life” like the one that he has enjoyed ever since he was born on third base.

The American dream for everybody yeah right

I also rebut Romney’s claim of a “politics of envy” in a recent post at http://www.ragingwisdom.com/?p=585 It is not envy but anxiety over the vastly disproportionate power the very, very rich can wield in our current political system, often to the detriment of the rest of us.

    Well said, ChurchLady, WELL SAID.

“kind of new peasant class, serfs, here to do their bidding. And the more they can divide us on fears of race, the more they will continue their coded transactions to keep divisions among us alive.”

Com on with it, Rev. Al Sharpton! IT’S ABOUT BEING FAIR, NOT HATIN ON RICH FOLKS.

thank you so much for this

Yup. We once, not all that long ago, believed everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, should have a fair shot at working so that they can support themselves and their families, have hope for a better future for their kids, and gently and incrementally achieve a better life.

And then, there were the Mitts who think, as Molly Ivins said of W, they were born on Third Base and think they hit a triple. And the rest of us obviously don’t deserve what they “earned” by choosing their parents wisely.

They want to roll us back to McKinley and the Robber Barons. Well, any read of historical news or magazine can remind us how well THAT worked out for the 99 75/100 of the population. Not.

We, on the other hand, want 1963, when we had some real hope for prosperity AND fair treatment of those we’d shoved off the table. It was a brief moment, but it was real. And the SOBs looked at a world of vastly improved equality and equity – and made sure the dream got kicked in the gutter.

We will face that opposition again. The rich don’t work and play well with the rest of us, and who knows what they’re willing to do to make sure they live well, and we’re the source of their support – a kind of new peasant class, serfs, here to do their bidding. And the more they can divide us on fears of race, the more they will continue their coded transactions to keep divisions among us alive.

Moral to the story – do NOT let them win!
