John P. Kee was born the 15th out of 16 children in Durham, North Carolina. At an early age he began to develop his musical talent both instrumentally and vocally. He attended the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and at 14, he and his brothers Wayne and Al moved to California where he began attending the Yuba College Conservatory School of Music in Marysville, CA. During this time, he began playing with various groups such as Cameo and Donald Byrd and the Blackbyrds. After having a hard time adjusting in California, he left and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina only to find himself living in a part of the city known for its violence and drug activities. After watching one of his friends being murdered in a drug deal gone bad, he rededicated his life back to God during a visitation to a revival meeting.

Girls with Pearls – In Celebration of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Birthday

If you have read the news lately, you’ve noticed that “they” have made negative references to First Lady Michelle. As on Inauguration Day, word went out for Girls to wear their Pearls, in support of Michelle Obama becoming the First Lady.

I would like to re-unite us with… the First Lady, in showing our continued support, by again wearing our Pearls on Tuesday, January 17, the First Lady’s birthday.

Please help me pass the word and maybe it will spread across the country.

PS: Men, you might not want to wear Pearls on this day, but in support of this event see to it that the First Lady in your life has a pair to wear!

  7. St. Clair County judge dismisses Obama ballot suit

    http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2012/01/st_clair_county_judge_dismisse.html

St. CLAIR COUNTY, Alabama — A St. Clair County judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Pell City man challenging President Obama’s inclusion on Democratic Party ballots in the March 13 primary, court records show.

The one-page order issued this morning by Circuit Judge James E. Hill, cited a ruling Monday by a Jefferson County Circuit Court judge dismissing a similar suit filed in December in Birmingham.

The Jefferson County judge, Helen Shores Lee, cited state laws and prior court rulings prohibiting courts from interfering in political party primaries when she dismissed the Dec. 14 suit filed by Birmingham resident Albert E. Hendershot.

Lee has set a hearing for Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by Harold Sorensen in Jefferson County this week that also seeks a court injunction to keep Obama off state ballots. Lawyers for state Democratic Party Chairman Mark Kennedy, the defendant in all three ballot suits, have asked Lee to dismiss Sorensen’s case.

Sorensen has asked Lee to step aside in his suit, accusing the black judge of racial bias.

Courts will be closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The deadline for political parties to certify their primary candidates in Jan. 19.

Obamas attend D.C. church on Sunday before Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday

President Obama and his family are worshipping at the 147-year-old Zion Baptist Church in Northwest D.C. on Sunday morning, keeping up a tradition of going to church the day before the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday.

While the Obamas have gone to church a few times a year since they moved into the White House, the King holiday has been an occasion for them to participate in the African American church tradition, complete with spirited choirs and gospel preaching.

Zion quickly filled up with members and visitors Sunday morning, and when asked about the Presidential visit, the church’s pastor, the Rev. Keith W. Byrd, said: “It’s a wonderful day. We came to worship and the first family did too.”

Let’s be clear about the effect of the racism directed against President Obama and his family
It’s clear that a majority in the black community have taken a personal interest (and some pride) in the election of the nation’s first black president. That pride in this president has undergone a natural evening-out as expectations are tempered by the reality of politics and other obstacles to the realization of what folks wanted out of this presidency.

However, the ultimate effect of the persistent racism directed against President Obama and his family by public officials and others visible public figures is going to be a reversion by supporters to that initial rallying and defensive mode that pushes critical judgements about his actual performance aside in favor of a united stand against an atmosphere of hatred that envelopes much more than just the target in its wake.

In effect, the racist attacks on President Obama and his family reflect on our own aspirations for achievement and advancement. On one hand, there is satisfaction in the realization that the barrier to the highest office in the land has been broken by Americans willing to elect this African-American president. The most important step that black Americans can take next is to begin to apply a more critical standard of support for this Democrat which isn’t dominated by a necessarily reflexive need to stand-up this president against these attempts to define him outside of the American mainstream based on the color of his skin. Yet, to allow this president to be diminished on the basis of race diminishes us all.

Stephen Colbert Takes On George Stephanopoulos During ‘Heated’ This Week Interview
    videoby Josh Feldman | 12:30 pm, January 15th, 2012

Stephen Colbert isn’t even a candidate for the presidency yet, and he’s already attracting more attention than actual candidates. The comedian has been riding high ever since announcing his intentions last Thursday to form an exploratory committee to run for the presidency in South Carolina, and on the heels of a new ad released by the Jon Stewart-helmed Definitely Not Coordinating With Stephen Colbert Super PAC released late last night, Colbert (in character) sat down with George Stephanopoulos to talk about his chances of actually getting on the ballot and the influence of Super PACs on the political process.

  14. Goldie Taylor Calls Out CNN’s Dana Loesch On CNN Over Urinate-Gate

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/goldie-taylor-calls-out-cnns-dana-loesch-on-cnn-over-urinate-gate/

On Saturday’s CNN Newsroom, host Don Lemon spoke with political analyst Goldie Taylor about the controversy surrounding the four US Marines who videotaped themselves urinating on the corpses of alleged Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. Taylor, a former Marine, took the opportunity to call out CNN contributor Dana Loesch, calling Loesch’s remarks “disgusting,” adding “to say you would ‘drop trou’ and do the same thing, I question someone’s integrity who would say something like that.”

Lemon opened the segment by issuing the shortest window ever to get the kids out of the room, then played the now-infamous clip (strategically blurred) of four US Marines doing a number (one) on some enemy corpses. Taylor told Lemon that the tape wasn’t representative of the Marine Corps that she belonged to, and that “When I look at that, and look at what four marines did to defame my Marine Corps, I’m disgusted.”

She went on to say that the four Marines should be court-martialed.

Lemon asked Taylor about people who defended these Marines’ actions. I’ve heard it,” Taylor said. “And I’ve heard it on this air, frankly. That is disgusting in and of itself, not as satire not as a joke but to say you would ‘drop trou’ and do the same thing, I question someone’s integrity who would say something like that. I want to know if they understand what our young men and women are up against every day. I don’t want to demonize the men and women who serve our country. I honor them, and served alongside them, and am proud of them. But when something like this happens, we have to stand up and call it for the behavior that it is.”

The incident has stirred significant outrage, which led CNN contributor and Editor-in-Chief of Big Journalism Dana Loesch to wonder what all the fuss was about, and to opine that she would “drop trou and do it too.”

Brady, Patriots halt TebowMania — for now

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The Denver Broncos lost two games by a score of 45-10 this season. They were two lopsided bookends in an unpredictable journey that ended Saturday night.

In between not looking anything like a playoff team during an Oct. 30 home loss to Detroit and a season-ending thumping at the hands of the much better New England Patriots, the Broncos reinvented themselves and became a team with hope for the future.

“It may be hard to see it now after an embarrassing loss,” Denver tight end Daniel Fells said in a quiet Denver locker room Saturday night, “but there is something there. … We did something this year that was unexpected, and there is something good to look forward to in the future.”

That future very likely will include Tim Tebow.
