Republicans betrayed their own conscience when they went against established Republican principles like the MANDATE over healthcare which was a Heritage foundation issue popularized by Gingrich.

Obama did more than his share to UNITE but the Republicans were out to oppose for opposing sake and not following any policy or principles. In the famous words of Minority Senate Leader Mitch McConnell the Republicans were out to defeat the Obama agenda even if it went against established Republican policies set by past precedent.

Mitch McConnell was out to make sure that President Obama remains a one term President and see where it has brought the Congress and its public esteem.

Gingrich out of his own admission was out to defeat Obama from the day he was sworn in as President.

You can not justify the Republicans as the “loyal” opposition as is the case in most mature democracies. They have been out to get President Obama by hook or by crook. A leader can meet the opposition half way but can not fold completely to their whims and fantasies like that of the current Tea Party affiliates.

Republicans will loose in 2012 just like they did in 2008 but with a smaller margin because of the dark money of Billionaires due to Citizens United verdict of the right wing Supreme Court.

Romney campaign reeling from new revelations david | Fri, Jul 13, 2012 10:06 AM EST

Yesterday’s Globe article about Mitt Romney’s departure (or lack of same) from Bain has proven to be very much the bombshell that its authors and editors no doubt hoped it would be. The Romney camp’s embarrassingly lame explanation that describing him as the CEO was merely a technicality because Bain couldn’t get its sh!t together for almost three years to sort out its internal affairs once Romney left … well, that’s just sad. And it’s not convincing anyone.

Today’s follow-up presents a new and exceedingly difficult problem for Romney. Drawing on reports that I think were first published at the Huffington Post (and are this time properly acknowledged), the Globe notes that Romney’s effort to prove to the State Ballot Law Commission that he was a Massachusetts resident eligible to run for Governor included some sworn testimony that may now prove problematic.

Romney Attended Board Meetings of Bain Investments After He “Left”
By: David Dayen Friday July 13, 2012 6:55 am

Mitt Romney’s problems over when precisely he left Bain Capital continue to pose a problem for him. He contradicted himself on two separate forms to two federal agencies, both of which carry a perjury statute. He told the SEC from 1999-2001 that he remained the CEO and sole shareholder of Bain Capital, and he told the FEC in a Financial Disclosure Form that he left Bain in 1999. I suppose there’s a way that both could be true, but it’s highly unlikely.

And now, there’s little reason to believe that the narrative the Romney campaign has pushed, that he left in 1999, is totally factual. Ryan Grim digs up testimony from Romney in 2002 showing that he participated in Bain-related activities after the departure date:

Mitt Romney Lied. That Part Is Simple.
    Posted by Dayvoe

    snip

That part is simple. Who (whom?) he lied to is complicated.

But which side is telling the truth?

Let’s go back to the original reporting. The story that triggered this was published at the Boston Globe. Here’s how it begins:

Government documents filed by Mitt Romney and Bain Capital say Romney remained chief executive and chairman of the firm three years beyond the date he said he ceded control, even creating five new investment partnerships during that time.

Romney has said he left Bain in 1999 to lead the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, ending his role in the company. But public Securities and Exchange Commission documents filed later by Bain Capital state he remained the firm’s “sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president.”

    McDonnell Declares Bain Off Limits
    Drawing a line in 1999

“All of these attacks are things that happened after Mitt Romney left as the managing director of Bain — he left to run the Olympics, some of the best Olympics in history in 2002,” McDonnell said. “He left to do that in 1999. To the degree that there is any truth to these sorts of outsourcing allegations, they happened after 1999 when he was not the managing director.”

McDonnell added that Obama “ought to pull those ads,” that attack Romney on Bain

Fruck McDonnell, the horse he rode in on, and the other GOPers. These itches have played a very ugly game with PBO these past 3+ years. They held nothing back. They have called him a liar before a joint session of Congress in a speech that was seen worldwide, plotted to ruin his presidency on the day he was inaugurated, urged their stupid supporters to say things about him that have never been said about any other POTUS, subconsciously urged their supporters to threaten his life and the lives of FL Michelle Obama and VP Biden, have taken their marching orders from Fox News and Rush Limbaugh who led the charge in trying to promote a race/civil war, among other things. Now they want PBO to call off these accurate, fact-based attacks after everything they’ve said about him has been based on the most odious of lies? Nope. Nope. Nope. They deserve all they’re getting, and more. I donate even more to PBO’s campaign when republicans start whining and running away from the light like cockroaches running away from a spurt of Raid. Republicans are some lowdown basturds, and if Romney can’t take having the truth about himself revealed, there’s an easy solution–he can throw in the towel and bow out of the race.

Mitt Romney did business in Massachusetts during Olympics

By ALEXANDER BURNS | 7/12/12 10:25 PM EDT

The Romney campaign repeatedly declined to say Thursday evening whether the Republican presidential candidate attended any meetings or had any contact with Bain Capital during the time he ran the Olympic Games.

Mitt Romney’s relationship with Bain has become a flashpoint in the presidential race as Democrats seek to tie him to corporate decisions made after 1999, when he took a leave from the private equity company to administer the Salt Lake City games until their completion in early 2002. The Boston Globe and other outlets reported this week that SEC documents show Romney was listed as a top executive until 2002

The elusive tax returns remain hidden
    By Steve Benen
    Fri Jul 13, 2012 12:27 PM EDT.

Former President Bill Clinton appeared on NBC’s “Today” show, and acknowledged how “perplexed” he is that Mitt Romney has only disclosed his tax returns for one year. “That struck me as a little odd,” Clinton said.

    SNIP

As for why Romney refuses to release the materials — remember, he turned over 23 years’ worth of returns to the McCain campaign, so the documents shouldn’t be hard to find — we can only speculate, but theories abound. There has been no official explanation from the candidate or his campaign team.
