Obama hits Romney on wind energy tax credits
President Obama stumped in Colorado today by going after Mitt Romney over tax credits for wind energy, a key industry in the Rocky Mountain state.
Citing Romney’s opposition to a program designed to assist wind energy producers, Obama told supporters in Pueblo that the industry “supports about 5,000 jobs” in Colorado.
“Without those tax credits, 37,000 American jobs — potentially including hundreds of jobs right here in Pueblo — would be at risk,” Obama said.

Mitt Romney would let wind energy tax credit expire, campaign says
Mitt Romney’s campaign said today the Republican presidential candidate would let the wind production tax credit expire, drawing a clear distinction between Romney and President Barack Obama on an issue that could affect up to 5,000 jobs in Colorado.
Obama supports the tax credit – which is set to expire at the end of this year – and has urged Congress to extend it. The Romney campaign has indicated in the past that he didn’t think “technology-specific incentives” are a good idea, but until today the campaign has not said if Romney would phase out the credit or allow it to expire this year.
This morning, the Obama campaign held a conference call with representatives from Colorado and three other states that are home to some of the largest numbers of wind facilities – Iowa, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Those states, like Colorado, just happen to be swing states in the Nov. 6 election

Romney stance attacked: Obama supporters cite his anti-wind power position
President Barack Obama’s supporters in four states criticized Republican challenger Mitt Romney on Monday for opposing a 20-year-old federal tax credit that Vestas and other wind-power manufacturers insist is essential for their industry.
Former Denver Mayor Federico Pena, along with former Iowa Gov. Chet Culver, were the best-known participants in a telephone press conference Monday that focused on the wind power tax credit that will lapse in December unless Congress acts.
There are 75,000 jobs in the U.S. related to manufacturing wind turbines and the industry has warned that layoffs will be widespread.
Vestas-America Wind Technologies has four plants in Colorado, including its Pueblo plant, and company officials have said 1,600 of its Colorado jobs are at risk.
