Jonathan Chait explains why Romney may have no choice but to pick Ryan. With the criticism that the Ryan Budget and Romney’s economic plan are getting from the religious community and from very reputable economists, I think it would be a very good idea if Romney chooses Ryan for his VP. Joe Scarborough doesn’t reveal that Ryan left college and went straight to D.C. where he worked with conservative “think tanks” and as an aide to republican politicians before he ran for Congress. Scarborough also didn’t share the fact that Ryan voted for the Bush tax cuts and TARP. Charles Pierce at Esquire pulled the scab off the festering pus-filled wound that is Paul Ryan in his column yesterday. Ryan is given credit he doesn’t deserve. He’s no ideas man. He’s as much of an ideas man as the pompous Newt Gingrich. Both are products of RW media engineering and are empty suits. I’m sure the Obama Campaign will remind Americans of these facts should Romney choose Ryan to be his running mate.

Schools’ rejection of vouchers brushed off
A move by two private schools to decline state voucher dollars will have negligible impact on the program, state officials said Wednesday.
The Dunham School plans to put the aid into a separate account until a lawsuit challenging the statute is resolved, according to a letter made available to attorneys for the state Department of Education.
However, the school is only set to get payments for four kindergarten students.

Jindal’s voucher program called ‘bad for religious freedom’

Opposition is coming from the Interfaith Alliance, a national, nonpartisan grassroots and educational organization based in Washington that has 185,000 members nationwide made up of 75 faith traditions as well as those of no faith tradition.
A letter sent to Jindal on Tuesday signed by the alliance’s president, the Rev. C. Welton Gaddy, says in part: “Your school voucher scheme is bad for religious freedom and bad for public education as well as a blatant attack on the religious freedom clauses in the United States Constitution.”
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is getting new pushback on his school voucher program, which is now the biggest in the country.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal refuses to implement Obamacare despite Supreme Court ruling
The Supreme Court upheld President Barack Obama’s health care law on Thursday, but Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a possible Republican vice presidential contender who has refused to establish a federally mandated health care exchange in his state, said Friday that he will continue to ignore it.
“We’re not going to start implementing Obamacare,” Jindal said during a conference call with Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. “We’re committed to working to elect Governor Romney to repeal Obamacare.”
Under the Affordable Care Act, states must set up a health insurance exchange program by Jan. 1, 2014, and will receive grants from the federal government to implement it. Several Republican governors, including both Jindal and McDonnell, have put off setting up the exchanges in the hope that the law will be repealed or struck down by the Court. Now that the law has been upheld, Jindal said he won’t change course and is looking to presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to lead the repeal effort if he takes office in 2013.
“Here in Louisiana we have not applied for the grants, we have not accepted many of these dollars, we’re not implementing the exchanges,” Jindal said. “We don’t think it makes any sense to implement Obamacare in Louisiana. We’re going to do what we can to fight it.”

For Romney, history suggests VP pick will provide exceedingly modest bump, if any

Mitt Romney’s selection of a vice-presidential running mate, which he is expected to announce soon, could shed valuable light on how he makes big decisions. His choice could shore up what voters view as weaknesses or double down on what they perceive as strengths.
What it won’t do, if history and recent scholarship are any guide, is bring the Republican candidate a critical state or tip the balance in a close election. For all the hyperventilation that accompanies the recruitment of a No. 2, it is unlikely that Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.), Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio), Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal or any other short-lister will give Romney more than an exceedingly modest bump, if any at all.
