We Hear You Loud & Clear, Mitt. Romney Goes Birther.

Mitt Romney is desperate for the election conversation to be changed. What’s happening right now isn’t working for him. Paul Ryan’s selection got him stuck in explaining his way out of killing Medicare. Then the Todd Akin situation highlighted just how extreme the party Romney leads has become — while also showing how impotent Romney is as the titular head of the entire enterprise.

So now Romney takes a page from his surrogate and fundraiser Donald Trump and goes birther:

“Ann was born in Henry Ford Hospital, I was born in Harper Hospital. No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate; they know that this is the place where both of us were born and raised,” he said.

This is another piece of the ongoing, years-long attempt to “otherize” Barack Obama by the conservative movement. Luckily for us, America hasn’t bought this line of nonsense — but it hasn’t prevented the right from going to the gutter time and time again. They’ll destroy this country in an attempt to lead it.

    We won’t let them.

Ideals Make Us American, Not Origins”

“Nobody’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. But as someone of Chinese descent I have been asked plenty of times where I’m from — and when I say “Poughkeepsie,” I often get the follow-up question that’s almost a cliché now among Asian Americans: “No, where are you really from?”

It’s always disheartening to get that question, even though I’ve learned to answer it with equanimity and usually take care to make the inquisitor feel not-stupid. But it’s always clarifying, for it reveals the default picture in the minds of some of my fellow Americans about who they are, who we are, and who I am.

That’s why Mitt Romney’s birther-baiting remarks today are, in a way, welcome. Let there be no doubt: He is the candidate for people who think the name Obama must be Muslim and its bearer indelibly foreign. He is also the candidate for the greater number of people who do not initially imagine that someone with my face, my eyes, my skin could be from this country.”

Really speaks to me because of my origin.

Romney’s ‘birther’ jibe upsets Obama campaign

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has referred at a campaign rally to a discredited theory that President Barack Obama was not born in the US.

Speaking near his childhood home in Michigan, Mr Romney joked that no-one had asked to see his birth certificate.

The “birther” remarks drew a swift response from the Obama campaign, who said the candidate had “embraced” the most extreme conservative claims.

Mr Romney is challenging Mr Obama for the White House in November’s election.

“No-one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate,” Mr Romney told a crowd of about 5,000 people at an event in a Detroit suburb.

“They know that this is the place that we were born and raised,” he said, to laughter from the crowd.

    The Obama campaign responds:

“Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them. It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.”

I think all that Romney is concerned about at this point is getting out the white vote in November. I think he’s given up on trying to get Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Americans in other groups to vote for him. The recent poll showing he has zero support from Black Americans is because we know who/what he is, and his birther comment today proves it and explains why few/none of us plan to vote for him in November. Although many polls have been showing that approximately 40% of White Americans plan to vote for the president in November, I think the number is higher because if you look at his rallies, most of the attendants are white people.

The only BLACK folks attending Romney’s events are part of his SS detail or paid operatives to sit in for show. PATHETIC

      • Beth says:

Of course that’s his only concern, he figured he’s already set up massive voter suppression, in many forms, it will take care of all other ethnicity voting for the Good guy who’s already in the White House.
