Excerpt: MOVING AMERICA FORWARD

“Four years ago, Democrats, independents, and many Republicans came together as Americans to move our country forward. We were in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, the previous administration had put two wars on our nation’s credit card, and the American Dream had slipped out of reach for too many.

“Today, our economy is growing again, al-Qaeda is weaker than at any point since 9/11, and our manufacturing sector is growing for the first time in more than a decade. But there is more we need to do, and so we come together again to continue what we started. We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.

“This election is not simply a choice between two candidates or two political parties, but between two fundamentally different paths for our country and our families.

“We Democrats offer America the opportunity to move our country forward by creating an economy built to last and built from the middle out. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party have a drastically different vision. They still believe the best way to grow the economy is from the top down – the same approach that benefited the wealthy few but crashed the economy and crushed the middle class…

“The Republican Party has turned its back on the middle class Americans who built this country. Our opponents believe we should go back to the top-down economic policies of the last decade. They think that if we simply eliminate protections for families and consumers, let Wall Street write its own rules again, and cut taxes for the wealthiest, the market will solve all our problems on its own. They argue that if we help corporations and wealthy investors maximize their profits by whatever means necessary, whether through layoffs or outsourcing, it will automatically translate into jobs and prosperity that benefits us all. They would repeal health reform, turn Medicare into a voucher program, and follow the same path of fiscal irresponsibility of the past administration – giving trillions of dollars in tax cuts weighted towards millionaires and billionaires while sticking the middle class with the bill. But we’ve tried their policies – and we’ve all suffered when they failed…

“The problems we’re facing right now have been more than a decade in the making. We are the party of inclusion and respect differences of perspective and belief. And so, even when we disagree, we work together to move this country forward. But what is holding our nation back is a stalemate in Washington between two fundamentally different views of which direction America should take.

        Good Morning, rikyrah. LOL Girl; I can’t just sit around and stare at my laptop. I got to get out there among the crowd. That’s where the stories & pics are.

        Hubby took all those pics from inside the TW Arena on his New IPad and now we’re trying to get them uploaded. I’m trying to remain patient, but when we figure it all out, I will post them.

    This made me laugh out loud:

    I can’t speak for the delegates or ther foreign dignitaries, but many of the journalists I have spoken with here are appalled at the accommodations in Charlotte to which they were assigned by the DNC. National Review was assigned to two Knights Inn properties. Everyone who saw them fled immediately across state lines to an available Marriott in South Carolina rather than stay there. As one of our political correspondents reported:

    The Knights Inn was the worst hotel I have ever seen, and I’ve stayed in many bad motels in my life. Two guys were dealing drugs in the room next to me, and a prostitute was working out of the parking lot. And this was in the early afternoon. The room itself was dirty, full of other people’s stuff, etc.

    I have never requested a hotel change in 3 years at NR. This was the first time I felt absolutely compelled.

    It’s not as if the DNC couldn’t have figured out something was wrong with the properties. TripAdvisor had these recent comments on one of the Knights Inn properties: “wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy,” “scared to death,” and “pimps and prostitutes at night.”

    Nor was National Review singled out. Staff members from Politico and the Hill abandoned their assigned hotels, too. Staffers from the Hill found refuge in a cheap Microtel and considered it a comparative oasis.

      Look at my mama out there reppin Maryland and Minnesota and 3ChicsPolitico! So proud of you and you ladies’ site. I don’t get to post often especially now that I have Master Nyles kickin my butt daily, but I salute you all. Also, maybe tomorrow I’ll have time to post why I’m better off than four years ago.

        My girl rocks! We talked on the phone earlier today and she was sharing with me how excting it is. I am so proud of her! She’s doing a great job. So happy Aubrey is with her.

        Little Nyles is just tooo dang cute! He has such a beautiful smile and growing so fast and graduated to high chair. lol

    I INTERVIEWED TWO YOUNG ADULT OBAMA VOLUNTEERS YESTERDAY. BOTH HAD WORKED ON THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN FROM 2007-2008, RIGHT UP UNTIL THE VERY END.

    QUESTION:

    ARE YOU BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE 4 YEARS AGO?

    “K” FROM D.C-27 YRS OLD WORKS ON FOREIGN RELATIONS- VOLUNTEERING
    YES, I HAVE 2-3 FAMILY MEMBERS WHO WERE IN IRAQ, SOME DOING 3-4 TOURS. THEY ARE NOW HOME. PBO SAID HE’D GET US OUT AND HE DID.

    I BOUGHT A NEW HOUSE.

    THE ONE THING I LEARNED FROM VOLUNTEERING WITH THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN IS THAT THIS MAN HAS THE OMNIPRESCENCE TO MOBILIZE FOLKS TO COME TOGEHTER.

    HERE GO! This is a photo of Kim Thomas. She told me she was in a car accident in 1996, and she suffered severe injuries, and she has the scars to show for it. She pointed to two circular dents on each side of her forhead. She had to wear the “HALO” She was hospitalized and in rehab for 4 months. And her motto ever since has been “Whatever The Challenge… DON’T QUIT.” The expereince inspired Kim to create a T-shirt with the motto, and this is her message to President Obama too!.
