Newspapers, blogs, and commentators across the country are slamming Romney’s comments, on which he doubled down at a press conference last night. Here is but a small sample:

    · David Brooks on why Romney “doesn’t know much about the country he inhabits” and why his comments reinforce “every negative view people have about Romney”: http://nyti.ms/SxJX5s

    · Bloomberg News on Romney’s “utter disaster”: http://bloom.bg/Po3XZA

Romney’s dismissal of 47% of the country reveals a startling degree of ignorance as to who these people are.

    · The vast majority of these Americans pay a significant percentage of their income in taxes – whether they are federal payroll taxes, property taxes, sales taxes or other state and local taxes. They often pay even a higher share of their income in these taxes than wealthier families, like Mitt Romney’s.

    · Well over half – 61 percent – are workers who actually pay federal payroll taxes, which can include military families, cops, firefighters, or teachers. In 2011, these families included nearly 20 million seniors, more than half of all seniors in America – Matthew Yglesias breaks it down: http://slate.me/UhBfti

    · It’s no wonder the Washington Post’s fact checker gave Romney’s remarks “Three Pinocchios”: http://wapo.st/PwpgYI

Romney also joked that he wishes he was Latino because he’d have a better shot of winning the election. Jokes aside, Latinos have good reason not to support Romney.

WaPo rips to shreds the notion that “47 percent” do not pay taxes. Here’s the actual breakdown: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/09/17/romney-my-job-is-not-to-worry-about-those-people/?hpid=z2

      ALL.OF.THIS.

Romney is probably all the bad things said about him and more. But what about the media that don’t even mention the logical fallacy behind his opinion, whey they’re smart enough to know better? So Obama has a lock on 47% of the vote total?

And 47% of the population don’t pay taxes? Therefore the 47% voting for Obama are all non-taxpayers!!!
What about wealthy women voting for Obama because they prefer his stand on women’s issues? Or wealthy gays who prefer his stand on gay marriage?

Or wealthy Hispanics who support his stand on immigration?

And what about the poor, non-taxpaying white men who are voting for Romney because concerns about race trump economic self-interest?

Or poor non-taxpaying evangelicals who support Romney because they basically want to abolish the separation between church and state?

Why aren’t the media any more nuanced than Romney in discussing the inaccurate and silly way he’s divided up the electorate?…”

Tell it, LO Romney is a spiteful, disdainful FAIL.

Mitt Romney, the guy who pays no taxes on millions of dollars thinks you’re a welfare freeloader. God Bless the 47% of America! #GOP2012

  11. Ametia says:

Basically, Mitt Romney stands by what he says and that means that unless you are in the 1%, are a racist bigoted tool, and don’t believe in the role of government, even when you mooch, and tax dodge, you aren’t worth the air you breathe to him.

Somehow, Romney is sounding like he wants to raise taxes on everyone. Not sure that’s what he wants voters to think…right?

    • Ametia says:

Mitt Romney hides his AMERICAN MADE $$$ in OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS, Won’t release his TAX RETURNS, and calls 47% of Americans FREELOADERS.

Oh yeah, this muthafucka is DONE!
