  1. Jack Welch Pleads to Anderson Cooper: Job Numbers Must Not Reelect Barack Obama

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/06/1141131/-Jack-Welch-Pleads-to-Anderson-Cooper-Job-Numbers-Must-Not-Reelect-Barack-Obama

All along they have been terrified of this President. Their desperate fears have led them to deem him a foreigner, a socialist, a communist, an individual bent on destroying America, someone they have caricatured as the very epitome of evil.

The idea of Barack Obama, an individual who happens to be African American and one who breaks long standing myths about what they consider an African American to be, in terms of his ability to perform and excel in the most powerful position in the world, has demoralized the Right on such a profound level that they have recalibrated long standing norms of behavior in order to guarantee his defeat.

They have pushed the meme in civilized forums that their resistance to Barack Obama has never been based on some orchestrated agenda to oppose him, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s statement, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term President” to the contrary, but rather, they say, to rid the nation of a president who is simply too “incompetent” to lead this nation.

O! My God! If this doesn’t cause that big, round pustule that sits atop Rush Limbaugh’s fat, lumpy shoulders to explode, it will be a miracle. And by now, I’m guessing Hannity–(rhymes with insanity)–has consumed about a quarter ton of antacids.
The worst possible news for republicans is that dreaded term; “Things are getting better!” These disloyal swine have prayed for America to continue to falter, something they desperately need to keep their hopes alive.
So, it should surprise no one that they would scream foul! What a hapless bunch of treacherous cowards these republicans are.
All the while, as they obstruct every effort by Obama to improve our situation, the foul, unpatriotic bastards are trying to steal the election thru voter suppression and by hiring a gang of vile thugs to cheat on voter registration.
At what point do we try the entire GOP as traitors?
Imagine…if we can hold the senate and get control of the house….what Obama could do for our future in his second term. For the very future of our great country, we need to put these republican trash in the garbage where they belong.

he Labor Department announced today that the nation’s unemployment rate fell to 7.8% in September, its lowest rate since January 2009. Under President Obama’s leadership, the economy has gone from losing 800,000 jobs a month to adding nearly 5.2 million private sector jobs over the last 31 months. http://bit.ly/QKXgCR

Job gains were also revised upward by 40,000 for July (to 181,000) and by 46,000 for August (to 142,000).

Jobs Truthers Are Nuts: Unemployment Numbers Can’t Be Cooked
    Oct 5, 2012 1:44 PM EDT

Forget it, conspiracy theorists. Critics from Jack Welch to Allen West are accusing President Obama of manipulating the figures, but Bureau of Labor Statistics data can’t be cooked.

The unambiguously positive jobs report, which showed 114,000 new jobs created in September and the unemployment rate dropping to 7.8 percent from last month’s 8.1 percent, caused some predictable reactions. Elation on the left, sober assessment from the center. And conspiracies from the right. Jack Welch, Congressman Allen West, Joe Scarborough, a collection of Fox News hosts, and a motley crew on Twitter all seemed to conclude there was something fishy about the report: the fix is in.

Obama eager to tout drop in unemployment rate
By Steve Benen – Fri Oct 5, 2012 1:42 PM EDT

Every month, without fail, White House officials respond to monthly job numbers in the identical way: there will be month-to-month fluctuations and it’s best not to make too much of any one report.

And while the official line hasn’t changed, President Obama seemed awfully eager to talk about the new jobs numbers at an event in Virginia this morning

    http://youtu.be/k1ahMHa1N8g

“This morning we found out that the unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since I took office. More Americans entered the work force. More people are getting jobs,” Obama said Friday at a campaign stop at George Mason University in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The president said the unemployment figure “reminds us that we have still got too many of our friends and neighbors who are looking for work, and they’re too many middle-class families that are still struggling to pay the bills,” but it was clear he viewed the drop below eight percent as a reason to vote for his reelection.

“Today’s news certainly is not an excuse to try to talk down at the economy to score a few political points,” Obama said. “It is a reminder that this country has come too far to turn back now.”

The unemployment truthers are not helping Romney
    By Greg Sargent

So the unemployment rate truthers are in a panic this morning. Some conservatives are angrily claiming that the new Labor Department stats finding unemployment below eight percent were cooked to help Obama win reelection.

The Tweet from former General Electric CEO Jack Welch is gaining the most attention: “Unbelievable jobs numbers…these Chicago guys will do anything…can’t debate so change numbers.” The refrain has been picked up by conservative Republicans in Congress and CNBC contributors. Fox News’s homepage blares: “Jobless rate dips under 8 percent, but…IS THE NUMBER REAL?”

Ezra Klein debunks the whole thing, as if it needs debunking. But it’s also worth noting that it’s hard to see how the unemployment truthers are helping Mitt Romney here. By launching into a full blown angry panic about improving jobs numbers, they only draw attention to, and reinforce, the idea that the economy is, in fact, improving — and, worse, that the prospect of economic improvement is terrible news for Romney’s presidential prospects.

Here is Romney policy director Lanhee Chen, trying to get a sane message out about the new employment numbers, but finding his efforts cluttered up by his questioner’s insistence that he endorse unemployment trutherism. Chen distances the campaign from it:

This is the latest manifestation of what Jonathan Bernstein has called the closed conservative information feedback loop. There were the poll truthers, who told us that any Obama lead simply must be the result a liberal media conspiracy to rig all the polls to create a false sense of an inevitable Obama victory. Only Rasmussen and Gallup are telling the truth. Oh, wait — Gallup shows Obama ahead now. So those numbers can’t possibly be true, either.

  10. Unemployment manipulation impossible, says former Labor official

    http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-welch-unemployment-manipulation-labor-statistics-20121005,0,7387690.story

WASHINGTON — Manipulating the government’s monthly unemployment report is impossible because of the large number of people — mostly civil servants and not political appointees — involved in compiling the data, said the former commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“I think it would be impossible to really manipulate the numbers,” said Keith Law, who served from 2008 to 2012 as commissioner of the independent statistical agency, which produces the report. “Certainly, it would be impossible to manipulate the numbers and not be found out.”

With the unemployment rate now down to 7.8 percent, it is at the same level it was when President Obama took office. When you subtract all the jobs that were lost in his first 13 months on the job from the jobs that have been added since then, you get 325,000 net jobs created. Despite a total lack of cooperation from the Republicans which prevented Obama from taking more forceful action, he has now climbed himself out of the hole George W. Bush and the Banksters dug for him. Naturally, this is upsetting to the Republicans who have been doing everything they can think of to keep the economy weak and the unemployment rate high. So, their first inclination is simple disbelief. “This can’t be happening. This is the worst thing ever. People can’t be getting work. Not after all we did to keep them on food stamps. The administration must have cooked the books.” Jack Welsh is even tweeting such nonsense. It’s quite a scene. A bunch of rich, white men complaining that the economy is strengthening and the stock market has more than doubled in value on Obama’s watch.

It’s a sad unpatriotic spectacle when greedheads cannot even be happy when they’re getting rich because the wrong team is in the White House.

  12. Romney Misstates Reason For Unemployment Rate Drop

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/zekejmiller/romney-mistates-reason-for-unemployment-rate-drop

“The reason it’s come down this year is primarily due to the fact that more and more people have just stopped looking for work. ”
