12.27 pm. It’s been a long long slog these past five years of backing the skinny guy with the funny name. But this election, to my mind, is immensely more important than the breakthrough of 2008, after the catastrophe of Bush-Cheney. What it has done is rip open the complete epistemic closure on the Republican right about what America now is. It has revealed that Fox News, Drudge, and the rest have been engaged in a massive propaganda campaign to create an alternative reality and get the rest of us to go along.
But this president has never been a radical; he has always been a moderate; he has been immensely skilled at foreign policy, ended one war and won another, killed Osama bin Laden and saved the American auto industry, deflected a Second Great Depression and initated universal access to healthcare. He has presided over a civil rights revolution and the beginning of the end of prohibition of marijuana. He has created the new and durable coalition that was once Karl Rove’s dream.
Americans saw this. They were not fooled. And they made the right call, as they usually do. What was defeated tonight was not just Romney, a hollow cynic, but a whole mountain of mendacity and delusion. That sound you hear is the cognitive dissonance ringing in the ears of ideologues and cynics. Any true conservative longs for that sound, the sound of reality arriving to pierce through fantasy and fanaticism.
We are the ones we have been waiting for. And now we have entrenched it deeply in the history of America and the world. That matters. May the next four years make it matter even more.

Poll Finds Union Workers Pulling Overwhelmingly For Obama In Ohio

WASHINGTON — An election eve poll conducted for the AFL-CIO found that 70 percent of unionized workers in Ohio were voting for Obama, as opposed to 21 percent for Romney.
Among early voters, the numbers were even starker: 79 percent for Obama, 21 for Romney, for a margin of 58 points.
The poll was conducted by Hart Research, a firm that tends to poll for progressive and labor groups. The poll’s sampling included 408 union workers, 138 of whom had already cast their ballots.
If he does take Ohio, Obama will owe much of his success there to organized labor. The AFL-CIO, the largest federation of labor unions, has expended much of its resources in the crucial swing state, which has a high quotient of unionized workers compared to other regions of the country. Richard Trumka, the AFL-CIO’s president and a former coal miner, spent much of the past week stumping for the president in Ohio.
According to Hart, Obama’s support among union voters in Ohio has risen by 5 percentage points since 2008. Some of that is no doubt due to the passions surrounding SB 5, the controversial Ohio measure that nearly stripped many of the state’s public-sector workers of their collective bargaining rights. Although the law was passed, it was overturned by voters last year.

Deanna Swenson, Oregon Election Worker, Fired After Allegedly Changing Ballots For GOP

An Oregon election worker under criminal investigation for changing ballots to help Republican candidates was fired, according to The Raw Story.
Clackamas County, Ore. spokesman Tim Heider said in a press release Monday that Deanna Swenson, was “relieved of duty immediately after the alleged ballot tampering was discovered.”
The website reports:
Contacted by Willamette Week, Swenson tearfully insisted that it was “only the two” ballots that had been altered.
The Oregon Department of Justice began an investigation last week after an elections official reportedly observed ballots being altered.

An electronic voting machine in Perry County, Pennsylvania that changes a President Obama vote to one for Mitt Romney is now back online, after officials received a complaint and recalibrated the machine, Mother Jones has confirmed.
A viral YouTube video posted mid-morning Tuesday by user “centralpavoter” shows someone repeatedly trying to vote for President Obama on a digital touchscreen, and the screen locking in a vote for Mitt Romney instead. The user posted a link to the video on Reddit, writing: “I asked the voters on either side of me if they had any problems and they reported they did not. I then called over a volunteer to have a look at it. She him hawed for a bit then calmly said “It’s nothing to worry about, everything will be OK.” and went back to what she was doing. I then recorded this video.”
