Republicans Relive Defeat and Failure as Obama is Sworn in For His Second Term

    By: Jason EasleyJan. 20th, 2013

The burn and sting that Republicans were feeling today as they watched Obama take the oath of office is a reminder of their crushing defeat and failure.

Watch President Obama begin his second term with the his official swearing in as President of the United States.

    …………………………..

It was the moment that Republicans worked every minute of the day to stop. It was also a moment that they also dreaded as deep in the dark corners of their minds, they felt the inevitability. When Barack Obama took the oath of office for his second time as president today it represented the success of the changing face of America, and the failure of the old guard to recapture power that may be forever gone.

The corporate billionaires threw in their pocket change millions. The white conservatives bubbled over with venom and rage. The South tried to muster its political strength. The old Republicans promised that this time these new young faces would not vote.

They dreamed. They conspired. They even invented polls that they thought would twist their visions of victory into reality.

In the end, here we are again. Barack Obama, the man they spent every waking second of the last four years trying to defeat, once again is their president.

Obama was able to again take this oath because of millions of Americans who didn’t go along with the plan. While the right was telling itself that anybody could defeat Obama, a majority was working hard to make sure that no one defeated Obama

When Obama was sworn in for his second term, it was reminder to right wing billionaires that the presidency is not for sale. It was reminder to Republicans that the negative politics of obstruction had failed. It was a reminder to the people that they can make a difference. It was a reminder that hope and change are great ideals, but what we are fighting for is the future of the country.

  3. Mythe just called me. She got a chance to talk with Jamie Foxx. I think she got pics too. She said folks were yelling “Django” at him and she was inching closer and closer to him and when she finally got up to him she uttered “Jamie, something needs to be done to the cemetery in Terrell” and he looked directly in her face and said…yes, I’m going to take care of it! **BOOM**! My girl knows how to work it! bwa ha ha ha ha

Re: The Second Term Starts Today

I’m reminded of a line from The Lion In Winter. Obama’s presidency, when it is written, will read better than it lived.

    The Second Term Starts Today

In a few hours, President Obama will begin his second term in office. Thank god we are not about to swear Mitt Romney in as our next president. That guy never told the truth about anything. Whenever a president is reelected, we see columns like this one in all the major papers that cover Washington. They are retrospectives about what the president and First Lady have learned and how they have changed, based on (mostly) anonymous friends’ and staffers’ observations. I enjoy articles in this genre, even though there is always plenty of ridiculous remote psychology involved. Jodi Kantor came up this next bit, which seems accurate.

The Obamas have gained and lost in their four years in the White House, becoming seasoned professionals instead of newcomers, more conventional, with a contracted sense of possibility. They are steady characters, not given to serial self-reinvention. Yet in interviews, current and former White House and campaign aides, donors and friends from Chicago said they could see how the president and the first lady had been affected by their roles.
Describing them, they used phrases like: more confident but more scarred. More isolated. Less hesitant about directing staff members, whether butlers or highest-level advisers. Gratified by re-election, which the Obamas view as sweet vindication, and bloodier-minded when it comes to beating Republicans. And Mr. Obama has learned that his presidency will be shaped by unanticipated events — “locusts,” one former aide called them, for the way they swarm without warning.

I think we have already seen signs of the bloody-mindedness. Ms. Kantor also does a nice job of demonstrating the inhuman demands the job puts on a person, especially the emotional demands.

But Mr. Obama also knows now that he is not fully in control of his fate, that the presidency will continue to bring tasks that no one could ever anticipate. Mr. and Mrs. Obama were supposed to spend the evening of Dec. 16 enjoying their daughter Sasha’s “Nutcracker” recital. Instead, the president was making condolence calls in cordoned-off rooms at Newtown High School.
“Words don’t exist” to describe the grief on his face as he approached the families, said Sarah D’Avino, whose sister Rachel died protecting her students. The president asked each family to describe the relative who died, paying special attention to the victims’ mothers. Mourning parents handed him pictures to carry back to the White House, and he told them that the children were beautiful, that the teachers were national heroes.

Moments later, he was smiling, on cue. One of his photographers was on hand, as always, and despite everything, the bereaved wanted pictures with the president.

I’m very glad that Obama was reelected, but I’m not sure why he wants four more years of this responsibility.

Georgia man restores MLK Bible for Obama inauguration

by Kunbi Tinuoye | January 19, 2013 at 10:58 AM

A metro Atlanta man has painstakingly restored a Bible that belonged to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. so it can be used in Monday’s presidential inauguration.

Gordon Ponsford, who lives in the Acworth area of Georgia, was commissioned by the King Center to prepare the leather-bound King James Bible for the president’s swearing-in ceremony.

In a symbolic milestone, Obama will take the oath of office for his second term with his hand placed not on a single Bible, but two – the one owned by Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln’s.

Ponsford, 54, a sought-after conservator, told theGrio he performed relatively minor “stabilization” work using adhesives to attach the loose leather to the slain civil rights leader’s Bible. King’s Bible was then shipped to D.C. in a traveling box constructed by the National Library Bindery in Georgia.

“It’s an honor to think that that Bible was in King’s hands at one time and has now been passed onto Obama,” said Ponsford. “No amount of words can describe how thrilled I am to have worked on this project.”

King used the bible to prepare his first sermon as a pastor, at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He also carried it with him as his “traveling Bible,” on the road for inspiration and to prepare speeches and sermons.

Ponsford, who has been in the industry for more than 25 years, is not fazed working on major historical projects. He has restored former President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural speech and has completed restoration work on gravesites of former President Kennedy, and his brother Robert, at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington.
