I was reading winger blogs today and it just struck me how completely boxed in they are on the issue right now, even more than the recent Bush tax cut issue. Some of the wingnuts, like Rubio and his high brow senate buddies don’t get the rabid passion of hatred amnesty has in the red House districts across the south and elsewhere.
All Rubio can see is his own star rising to get this done, and whimsical notions that it will somehow help the GOP over the long run with voters. It might, a little, but I seriously doubt it will trump all the new voters who know full well the side that is most on their side. And the xenophobes never change and will keep on saying stupid shit like this moronic GOP Rep, because the majority of voters in his district like him saying it.
The party of Lincoln is stuck with these haters, and getting a decent comp immigration bill passed into law with the help of a few corporatist republican senators and with the likely needed help of dem votes in the House, is not going to change the electoral game that much. As the haters gonna keep on hatin’ in Tea PartyGop.
Obama must be sitting in the Oval Office with his feets propped up on the presidential desk, grinning from ear to ear at the comical convulsions of a GOP melting down before his eyes, with only a slight worry about not getting in the way as much as possible. And watching out for any flanking maneuvers the nutters might attempt to shift blame for failure.
It is win all the way around for dems, whether a bill gets passed with amnesty, of if it doesn’t, the wingers will get the blame and little of the credit that might arise.
I TOLD YOU that Rubio was a FRAUD.

Rubio’s exit strategy takes shape

The politics surrounding Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) immigration pitch to Rush Limbaugh seemed straightforward enough, at least as of 24 hours ago. The far-right senator is part of a bipartisan group of lawmakers that supports comprehensive reform, while the far-right radio host is ready to use his power to “stop this” from advancing. Rubio presumably wanted to offer a persuasive defense of his own bill.
But during today’s on-air interview, both Republicans staked out interesting positions that were not altogether expected. Limbaugh, for example, wanted to kill the bipartisan reform plan yesterday, but today lauded Rubio’s efforts as “admirable and noteworthy,” and “recognizing reality.” And while Rubio was all smiles yesterday, today the GOP lawmaker seemed to be hinting at an exit strategy from the reform initiative he’s helped launch.
In an interview with Rush Limbaugh aired Tuesday, Sen. Marco Rubio said he wouldn’t support a bill granting a pathway to citizenship to undocumented immigrants unless it first addressed border security. […]
“To the point of them not wanting to do the security, look, all I can tell you is that that’s a big issue for me,” Rubio responded. “That’s why I’m involved in this process. I have no reason to believe it won’t happen. But if it doesn’t, I’ll come back to you and say look, it didn’t happen. We tried, they put that in the principles, but then they drafted a bill and I couldn’t support it.”
So, literally one day after Rubio threw his support to a bipartisan, comprehensive reform package, he told a right-wing radio show he’s prepared to walk away unless he gets what he wants. That doesn’t exactly speak highly of Rubio’s commitment to following through on a policy he claims to take seriously.

Obama unveils his own proposal for immigration reform

LAS VEGAS — Declaring that America’s immigration system is broken, President Obama on Tuesday called for a process to allow the 11 million illegal immigrants in the country to apply for citizenship, adding to momentum on Capitol Hill in favor of an overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws.
In his first trip outside Washington since beginning his second term, Obama set forth the principles for one of his top priorities for his second term — and perhaps the one most likely to be accomplished.
“We need Congress to act on a comprehensive approach that finally deals with the 11 million undocumented immigrants who are in this country right now,” Obama said.
“Now’s the time,” he said repeatedly.
