Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) trainer Adam Pollock provided key testimony in defense of accused murderer George Zimmerman on Monday, but was due in court Tuesday for a pretrial hearing stemming from his own arrest. In a bizarre coincidence, just one day after providing an in-courtroom demonstration of MMA techniques, with Zimmerman defense attorney Mark O’Mara as his “opponent,” Pollock was due in court over a March, 2013 arrest for allegedly assaulting Tina Mangiardi, a former model who agreed to plead guilty in a scheme to defraud investors of $2 million in a Ponzi scheme.
Fifty year-old Tina Mangiardi signed a statement, in March, admitting that she “fraudulently obtained between $2,500,000 and $7,000,000 from investors” (one of whom was Adam Pollock), and agreed to a guilty plea in exchange for lenient sentencing. Shortly after making the deal, Mangiardi went to Adam Pollock’s gym, and things didn’t go well.
Surveillance video obtained by Channel 9 shows Mangiardi, an admitted con artist, pulling into the parking lot of Kokopelli’s.
She told police she was going there to pay a debt she owed to Pollock, but Mangiardi said once she was inside the gym, Pollock put on a pair of black gloves and pulled out a knife, threatening to cut off her fingers and toes as collateral.
A camera at a nearby business caught Mangiardi running out of the gym asking workers there to call police.
Pollock admitted to police he did push Mangiardi and that he may have slapped her. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for July 9 at 9 a.m.

Amid growing protest, the city of Sanford on March 16, 2012, relented to public pressure and released dispatch recordings from the night Trayvon Martin was killed, including a 911 call that captured cries for help and the fatal shot.
City leaders hoped the gesture would soothe tensions, but it had the opposite effect. It started one of the most contentious debates in the case: Who is heard crying out, Trayvon or his shooter, George Zimmerman?
In a crucial hearing that starts Thursday and may drag into Friday, Circuit Judge Debra Nelson will hear from experts who say they have an answer. Then she’ll decide which, if any, Zimmerman’s jury can hear from at his second-degree-murder trial, which starts Monday.
Of the experts who’ve weighed in on the case so far, none has been more decisive than Alan R. Reich, who could be a crucial witness for the state. Among Reich’s findings, from a recently revealed report:
•Trayvon’s voice “is younger and he generates much of what some observers have called screams,” including the last scream, which Reich says was the word “stop.”
•Zimmerman “makes a seemingly religious proclamation, ‘These shall be,'” about one second into the 911 call, while simultaneously Trayvon yells a “distressed, and tremulous ‘I’m begging you.'”
Reich’s involvement in the case began when he was retained for a May 2012 article in The Washington Post, which said the former University of Washington professor “has worked … in hundreds of criminal and civil cases over a period of more than 35 years.”
Attempts to reach Reich to discuss his findings this week were unsuccessful, but searches of scholarly publications reflect that he’s been published on an array of topics, ranging from vocal-disguising techniques to stuttering in children.

The judge in the George Zimmerman second-degree murder case today ruled that his jury will remain anonymous throughout the trial.
Circuit Judge Debra Nelson’s ruling says attorneys in the case are to refer to jurors by number, not name, during jury selection, which begins Monday in Sanford. Writes Nelson: “This is to be done in order to protect the prospective jurors from harassment and pressure from the public at large.”
Nelson’s ruling notes that the media outlets covering the trial have agreed not to photograph the Zimmerman jurors.
Though defense attorney Mark O’Mara had asked the judge to sequester the entire jury pool — hundreds of people set to begin arriving at the Seminole County criminal courthouse Monday, almost all of whom won’t make the cut — Nelson ruled that “such drastic measures are unneceassary and, in fact, not practical based upon the resources available to the Court.”

A handful of large donations have bolstered the Zimmerman Defense Fund, bringing the total raised in a week to more than $77,000. This week’s surge in donations has allowed us to to pay outstanding liabilities, which were in excess of $20,000, and make significant investments in deposition transcripts and experts.
We have important hearings Thursday and Friday of this week, and jury selection for the trial begins on Monday. During trial, the Zimmerman defense team will be “all hands on deck,” and there will be additional operational expenses. We also anticipate increased security expenses during trial.
The support we have received in the last week has given us hope that we will be able to meet our goal of $120,000.
Isn’t it too late to add expert witnesses and take depositions?

@roderick2012. Either party can add witnesses for the rebuttal phase. The court can recess for days or weeks allowing the other party to depose those witnesses. Since the defense has not revealed any expert witness(es) to the State, there’s a good chance they don’t have any and won’t have any at trial.

@Ametia. Remember on Hannity’s program that GZ said he thought the cop would arrive, see him with his gun, and shoot him. He said he was terrified. GZ killed Trayvon because Trayvon’s screams would alert the arriving cop of his location, and GZ would be standing there restraining Trayvon and with a drawn pistol. GZ had to kill to silence.
What I’d like to know is those pics of GZ that looked doctored up are actually fake. Will they be able to prove this in court?

With less than a week left before the Trayvon Martin trial begins, an attorney for Martin’s family now claims that George Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’Mara fabricated evidence in an attempt to sway both the public and the jury.
Since Zimmerman’s fatal confrontation with the 17-year-old Martin more than a year ago, both the judge and the public have been presented with an overwhelming amount of evidence during numerous court appearances and hearings. During a hearing last Tuesday, Zimmerman’s defense team claimed that they had obtained video footage of “two buddies of [Martin] beating up a homeless guy.” In a statement on Zimmerman’s website, O’Mara later apologized for mischaracterizing evidence that in fact showed two homeless men fighting over a bike.
However, the law office representing Martin’s family said this mistake was much more serious than a simple misstatement.
“The video, to me, is one of the clearest examples of a pure fabrication,” Jasmine Rand, managing attorney and head of the civil rights division of Parks and Crump’s South Florida office, told The Huffington Post. “I have no idea where that information came from. It’s inaccurate, and to spread that type of information on such an important case was a clear fabrication of the evidence. I think that the behavior of the defense, to me, would call into question their veracity as a whole. And if you fabricate evidence once, I don’t trust that you wouldn’t fabricate evidence twice.”
