State vs George Zimmerman in the Murder of Trayvon Martin (day 8)

Judge Debra Nelson5WFTV.COM —The court on Tuesday has reached 40 potential jurors needed to advance to a second round of questioning for jury selection in George Zimmerman’s murder trial.

Zimmerman, 29, of Sanford, is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder, saying he shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in self-defense in February 2012.

Out of the 40 who are moving on, 24 are women and 16 men. The 40 are made up of 25 white, eight Hispanic, six black and one mixed-race potential jurors.

One of the potential jurors who made it through is a middle-aged black man who criticized Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for coming to town and portraying the deadly shooting as racially motivated.

115 Responses to State vs George Zimmerman in the Murder of Trayvon Martin (day 8)

  1. Funeral director on Trayvon Martin’s lack of injuries

  2. I don’t necessarily think P67 would be bad for the State because he has kids. He’s trying now to protect them. Listen to him speak about the little one wanting to sleep with them b/c she’s scared. Little kids ask to sleep with the parents when they’re scared all the time. It makes them feel safe. I think he would sympathize for a child being chased down & killed. Just saying…

  3. Court is in recess until 9am tomorrow.

  4. Juror P-67 and his wife are scared for him to serve. Did they see something threatening about him? These mean ass people!

  5. Tony Pipitone: Recent citizen from Mexico, Juror P-67, expresses hardship in letter written by wife, who is worried about situation, as is child.

  6. Juror P-67 is scared to serve.

  7. Judge Nelson is releasing potential jurors for today. They’ll return tomorrow morning at 9am.

  8. Bernie is explaining what sequestration means.

  9. Bernie to potential jurors: Do you believe in responsible gun ownership?

    • Ametia says:

Race has mattered in this country, since like Native Americans were maimed, murdered, and driven off their land by the white man.

    • roderick2012 says:

I thought that I heard that the State isn’t allowed to use the words, terms like “profiling’ or ‘racial profiling’ but Bernie can blatently state that George and Trayvon were different races?

      Where is the consistancy?

BTW after Bernie gets George’s BFF DUI Taaffe on the stand and let’s him spill his guts the jury will know in no uncertain terms that Trayvon was racially profiled.

When will Judge Nelson rule on the Frye hearing?

  10. Bernie asking if any of the jurors have a neighborhood watch.

Bernie to juror: I guess no one has followed you? LOL! I’ll bet West is ticked?

  11. Bernie warned potential jurors about photos and that they’ve probably never seen anything like it before. Sounds like autopsy photos or maybe death photos?

    • Ametia says:

I shudder to think of Trayvon, lying there shot to death, LIFELESS. He didn’t have a clue that he’d be stalked and murdered, carrying a bag of Skittles and ice tea.

      • Liza says:

If I remember correctly, the death screams on the 911 tape have a duration of around 40 seconds, maybe longer. That’s how long Trayvon knew he was going to be killed. I have often wondered what Zimmerman said to Trayvon in those seconds. There’s a mighty fine line between murder 1 and murder 2, in my opinion, because that is a long, long time to point a gun before you pull the trigger. But if Zimmerman is convicted of murder 2 I’ll consider it justice.

        • Liza, we don’t know what the Feds have on him. I’ve got a feeling they have something and there’s going to be a second trial. They’re waiting until the State is finished with him. Zimmerman is going down!

      • Ametia says:

Liza, everytime I hear Trayvon screaming for his life; I WEEP. It’s just unimaginable as a mother, to hear the news that your child was murdered in cold blood, just because of the hatered and he’s black. There was no other reason GZ had to get out of his vehicle, after the cops told him :

“WE DON’T NEED YOU TO DO THAT.”

Did Geroge Zimmerman interpret this as some kind of fucking coded message as: ”

Get your ass out of the vehicle, stalk that negro wearing the hoodie, and kill him?”

  12. Werk it, Bernie! He’s making potential jurors feel comfortable.

  13. Juror E 73 says there was a previous violent situation & would not be able to set aside.

Juror E 73 doesn’t like negative publicity surrounding the case. Says “I can’t conceive being armed. I can’t conceive of shooting someone.” Says something had to have happened.”

    • Ametia says:

yes; something did happen, E 73. An ARMED Zimmerman followed, stalked, shot and murdered an UNARMED black boy. HOW’S THAT FOR NEGATIVITY?

  14. LOL!

Listen to Bernie… asking juror whose home was invaded….”did you go chasing after him”?

  15. Court is back in session.

(CBS) SANFORD, Fla. –The family of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin has “every confidence” that a jury will convict George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch captain accused in his shooting death, a family attorney said.

Martin’s family, including his mother Sybrina Fulton and father Tracy Martin, have attended jury selection proceedings in the Seminole County criminal courthouse since they launched more than a week ago. Attorneys in the case have been whittling down a pool of potential jurors, questioning them on their exposure to news reports in the high-profile case.

Tuesday, prosecutors and defense attorneys reached an important milestone — identifying 40 potential jurors eligible to move on to a second round of questioning. The attorneys will be able to ask the candidates more in-depth questions when court resumes at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The family has been “encouraged” by the jury selection process, said Daryl Parks, a Martin family attorney, adding that they feel the panel of six jurors and four alternates ultimately seated will be able to be impartial.

  17. Court is in recess until 1:45pm

A middle-aged African American man, he said he heard self-defense was involved with the case.

Stated black leaders came to Sanford to give support but doesn’t think it was necessary. He understands what they were trying to do but feels like you have to let the law work. He wasn’t opposed to black leaders expressing themselves but felt it wasn’t necessary because it stirs up feelings. He remembers the civil rights era and remember the marches and the emotions associated with it.

Stated black leaders came to Sanford to give support but doesn’t think it was necessary.

I am guessing either this man is playing dumb or he’s not a native of Sanford nor does he know the history of the town or its police department.

  26. P-67 wanted to be questioned in private. Judge says it has to be public. “I will not clear the courtroom”

  27. Did you see Zimmerman smiling about arm wrestling? B 72 is an arm wrestler.

    • Ametia says:

      GZ’s a SOCIAOPATH.

    • Ametia says:

This MOFO, GEROGE ZIMMERMAN, right here was not told not to get out of his car, and he was not told not to follow. He was asked if he was following, and he said he was. He was then told “we don’t need you to do that” and he said “Okay.”

  46. Dismissed jury candidate says George Zimmerman’s defense defamed him
Man files lawsuit over ‘stealth juror’ comment

    http://www.wesh.com/news/central-florida/zimmerman/dismissed-jury-candidate-says-george-zimmermans-defense-defamed-him/-/20559290/20623830/-/13ip2g5z/-/index.html

A dismissed potential juror who caused a stir last week claims that George Zimmerman’s defense team defamed him.

The Florida Civil Rights Association will now provide legal representation to Jerry Counelis.

The former prospective juror, known as E7, was banned from Seminole County Courthouse last Friday.

The man was dismissed from jury selection a few days prior when he was caught lying about comments he made on Facebook regarding the case.

Counelis claims defense attorney Mark O’Mara defamed him afterwards when O’Mara called Counelis a “stealth juror.”

Counelis filed a civil complaint. O’Mara said he won’t apologize.

“For whatever reason, he did not take the opportunity to be straight-forward in court. This process only works if you can tell the truth,” O’Mara said in a statement. “Stealth jurors are a cancer on our system.”
    **************************
Mark O’Mara, you’re the cancer on our system. You’ve smeared an innocent dead child with bald face lies, asked people to donate money if they would have did what George Zimmerman did and you have to GALL to accuse someone of being a cancer. No conscience, no morals, no soul.

    • Ametia says:

I hope the Guitar man gets justice for character assasination!

    • roderick2012 says:

O’Mara will be dead before this trial is over—-dude has more enemies that J.R. before he was shot. LOL

      • LOL! IIRC, the dismissed juror is suing him for exposing his identity.

        • roderick2012 says:

That’s what I was referring to.

Remember O’Mara claimed last year that he got a death threat?

If it’s true the next warning may be a bullet.

Damn I hate O’Mara more than I do George but karma will give what O’Mara deserves.
