The last traditional Chief of the Crow Nation, Plenty Coups was a visionary that led his people from the ‘Buffalo Days’ into the 20th century. He was an accomplished statesman and ambassador well known by several US Presidents and foreign leaders. Chief Plenty Coups best illustrated the close bond between the US and Crow Nation when, in 1921, he offered his war bonnet and coups sticks at the dedication of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. In his speech, he promised the allegiance of Crow warriors to fight any enemy of the United States. His promise has been upheld countless times in wars or armed conflicts since that gathering. The Chief was a leader by example – he was a productive farmer and stockman, expert steward of his 1885 allotment, and a supporter of education.
Plenty Coups (otherwise known as Aleek-chea-ahoosh) (1848 – 1932) was a Crow chief and visionary leader. He allied Crow with the whites when the war for the West was being fought, because the Sioux and Cheyenne (who were opposing white settlement of the area) were the traditional enemies of the Crow. Plenty Coups had also experienced a vision when he was very young that non-Native people would ultimately take control of his homeland (Montana), so he always felt that cooperation would benefit his people much more than opposition.
Chief Plenty Coups: One of his famous quotes is: “Education is your greatest weapon. With education you are the white man’s equal, without education you are his victim and so shall remain all of your lives. Study, learn, help one another always. Remember there is only poverty and misery in idleness and dreams – but in work there is self respect and independence.”

CNN Caught Staging News Segments on Syria with Actors
By wmw_admin on September 1, 2013
JG Vibes — Rebel News Sept 1, 2013
The primary “witness” that the mainstream media is using as a source in Syria has been caught staging fake news segments. Recent video evidence proves that “Syria Danny”, the supposed activist who has been begging for military intervention on CNN, is really just a paid actor and a liar.
While Assad is definitely a tyrant like any head of state, a US invasion of the country is a worst case scenario for the people living there.
By pointing out that the mainstream media is orchestrating their entire coverage of this incident, we are not denying that there is a tremendous amount of death and violence in Syria right now. However, we are showing that the mainstream media version of events is scripted and staged propaganda.
The following video shows him contradicting himself while off air, and even asking crew members to “get the gunfire sounds ready” for his video conference with Anderson Cooper on CNN.

Bye, ultra-skinny models: Full-figured fashion show comes to New York
By Agence France-Presse
Friday, September 6, 2013 13:17 EDT
Full-figured women will have their day on the catwalks of New York on Friday when hometown designer Eden Miller unveils her plus-size collection — a fashion week first.
In the ultra-skinny fashion world, where angular models typically strut the runways, Miller will send out voluptuous models sporting looks from a colorful mini-collection in which prints reign supreme.
Miller, who has been a designer for 25 years, launched her line Cabiria in April to “good but unexpected” reviews.
In July she was approached by the Fashion Law Institute — a non-profit organization which advises and supports talented designers who do not have the resources to put on shows themselves — to stage a show.
“It’s an incredible honor, it is absolutely fantastic,” Miller told AFP ahead of her show.
“It is also a wonderful opportunity for showing the legitimacy of plus-size fashion. It is real fashion. It can be measured in the same way that other kinds of fashion can be.”
Miller, herself proudly curvaceous, explains passionately how she uses cut, angles and silhouettes to flatter fuller figures.

Obama Nominates Voting Rights Supporter To Powerful Court — Here’s How The GOP Freakout Will Play Out
By Ian Millhiser on September 6, 2013 at 12:17 pm
A partisan effort to keep the nation’s second most powerful court in Republican hands will flare up against next Wednesday, when the third of President Obama’s three nominees to this court faces his confirmation hearing. Yet, while next week’s confirmation hearing is likely to focus on the GOP’s effort to prevent new judges from being confirmed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by citing misleading statistics, they are also likely to detour into a debate over voter suppression.
Judge Robert Wilkins is not simply a DC Circuit nominee, he is also one of three judges that prevented Texas from enforcing a voter suppression law last year, although that decision has since been superseded by the five Republican justices’ decision to render much of the Voting Rights Act toothless. Additionally, Wilkins was one of three judges that rejected a suit by the Republican National Committee that could allow billionaires to launder enormous sums of money to political candidates if the RNC eventually wins its lawsuit in the Supreme Court.
This second decision in particular should not be controversial. The RNC’s lawsuit wasn’t simply rejected by Wilkins, it was also brushed back by Judge Janice Rogers Brown, a deeply conservative judge who once compared liberalism to “slavery” and Social Security to a “socialist revolution.” Yet, while gutting restrictions on money in politics may not be good law, it is a top priority of the most powerful Republican in the Senate. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) may be the Senate’s leading advocate for tearing down campaign finance laws.
Wednesday’s hearing, however, will almost certainly bring some fireworks over the unanimous opinion Wilkins joined blocking Texas’ voter ID law. Although voter ID’s proponents justify these laws by claiming they are necessary to combat voter fraud at the polls, such fraud barely even exists — a Wisconsin study found that only 0.00023 percent of votes are the product of such fraud. What voter ID laws do accomplish is making it less likely that students, low-income voters and minorities will cast a ballot, all of whom tend to be more liberal than the median voter. Perhaps for this reason, protecting voter ID laws is a priority for many Republican lawmakers. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, recently suggested that he might kill an effort to reinstate the Voting Rights Act unless a special carve out is created to ensure that voter ID laws can still exist.
Yet, while Wilkins’ hearing will no doubt bring at least some criticism from Republicans for his stance in favor of voting rights, Republicans will probably try to block his confirmation for reasons that have nothing to do with his record. Currently, the DC Circuit is a bastion of conservatism, and its judges handed a series of high profile victories to corporate interest groups in recent years. Among other things, Republicans on the DC Circuit invalidated environmental rules that would have “prevent[ed] between 13,000 and 34,000 premature deaths, 15,000 non-fatal heart attacks, 19,000 hospital and emergency room visits and 1.8 million days of missed work or school for each year.” It held that employers have a constitutional right to keep workers ignorant of their rights in the workplace. It briefly threatened to shut down the only agency capable of enforcing much of American labor law, although that threat was averted after Senate Republicans caved and agreed to confirm several new nominees to that agency. And two DC Circuit judges have even claimed that all labor, business or Wall Street regulation is constitutional suspect.
If President Obama’s nominees to this powerful court are confirmed, it will drastically curtail the ability of the DC Circuit’s Republicans to reshape the law according to their policy preferences.

It’s been two whole weeks since we last heard a congressional Republican publicly talk up the idea of impeaching President Obama for no reason. I guess we were due?
Andrew Kaczynski flagged this clip of Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas), who joins a large and not-terribly-impressive group of GOP lawmakers in Washington who like the idea of putting the country through an impeachment crisis.
As best as I can tell, Flores hasn’t substantiated his bizarre allegations about presidential wrongdoing, but it’s that last sentence that seems especially interesting to me — as far as this congressman is concerned, if the House held a vote to impeach President Obama right now, it’d probably pass.
And what, pray tell, would be the basis for this little House Republican crusade? Apparently that doesn’t matter — these folks just like the idea, and whether it makes sense or not isn’t important

Flipping the script on Israel
By Steve Benen
Fri Sep 6, 2013 11:16 AM EDT
For nearly five years, the rhetoric from U.S. conservatives about the Middle East has been fairly consistent: President Obama has shown insufficient fealty to our Israeli allies, while Republicans remain steadfast in their unyielding support for Israel, no matter what.
When it comes to U.S. intervention in Syria, the script has apparently been flipped.

Post-College, Real Talk: Morehouse Grad Shares Importance of Early Career Planning
Young entrepreneur talks success tips for post-grad job seeking
by Antoine Moss Posted: September 2, 2013
As colleges and universities across the country are beginning to start classes for the new academic year, students must step foot on campus with a central focus on their personal career development. This is crucial because with the rising costs for a college education, many millennials are graduating with an overwhelming amount of debt. To make things worse, a lot of recent graduates are unemployed or forced to settle for low-wage jobs.
Part of the reason some graduates struggle to find meaningful employment is because they don’t bring adequate skills to the table. (In fact, based on a national survey, 66% of hiring managers believe that the average college graduate does not have sufficient job skills.)
Entrepreneur Derric Studamire (@MasterofInnerG), who graduated from Morehouse College last spring, believes that students must become more proactive to increase their career opportunities and full-time job offers post graduation. During his last few semesters as a college student, Studamire, who’s worked with heavyweights including NASA, partnered with other career-minded students to get an early start on launching their careers to found the Infinity Club Investment Group (ICIG), an organization that seeks to help young adults succeed in their careers by becoming more financially literate.
Studamire further developed his workforce skill set by honing his written and verbal communication skills as an English tutor for his college. “To stand out from other students vying for competitive career opportunities, I decided that I wouldn’t be afraid to delay gratification and offer to work for free to prove myself.”
I caught up with Studamire for other tips for college students tips that will help them become more employable in thiscountry’s fierce labor market:
What was your most beneficial career building opportunity that you took advantage of as a college student that helped boost your confidence, skills, and career?

Cornyn’s convenient change of heart
By Steve Benen
–
Fri Sep 6, 2013 10:23 AM EDT.
In March Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) appeared at an event in Atlanta, and publicly endorsed U.S. intervention in Syria. Then President Obama expressed support for military strikes in Syria, at which point Cornyn reconsidered.
Indeed, in a curious twist, the Texas Republican said this week “many questions are still left unanswered,” which led to a meeting with the president in the White House in which Cornyn asked no questions.
All of which leads us to now.
The immediate significance of this is that Cornyn is the first leading congressional Republican to express opposition to authorizing the use of force. In the House, the top two GOP leaders — House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor — endorsed the resolution earlier this week, while in the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is too afraid to say much of anything.

White Dallas man shoots 8-year-old black boy in the face as he plays ‘tag’.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/09/06/white-dallas-man-shoots-8-year-old-black-boy-in-the-face-as-he-plays-tag/ …
An 8-year-old African-American boy in Texas is struggling to recover after being shot in the face by a 46-year-old white man, but authorities have not been able to determine a motive.
Dallas police said that Donald Maiden Jr., who had just celebrated his 8th birthday on Sunday, was playing tag outside his apartment complex on Tuesday. According to his grandmother, Maiden ran inside to get some toys and was shot as came back outside.
Witnesses told police that 46-year-old Brian Cloninger had been seen waiving a handgun at people prior to the shooting, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Police reports said that Cloninger was seen standing beside his pickup truck as the boy was bleeding, and a witness asked him if he shot the boy.
“Yes I shot that kid,” Cloninger reportedly said.
Maiden’s mother, Latamarin Locklin, recalled the aftermath of the shooting to KTVT on Thursday.
“When he ran in I just screamed,” she said. “His mouth was just hanging off and it was just a big hole… I just threw him on the couch and laid him in my arms and put pressure on his mouth with the towel.”
The following link has video reports as well as an article:

I am praying that Donald Maiden will have a safe, complete recovery physically and that he will receive God’s comfort as he emotionally recovers from this heinous act of violence against him.
An Obama Failure On Syria Might Ultimately Doom The Republican Party
By: Trevor LaFauci
Sep. 6th, 2013
There’s a good chance that Barack Obama is going to fail.
As media outlets begin to do rough counts of where representatives stand, it appears that there is a strong possibility that the United States House of Representatives will not authorize our country to begin a military campaign in Syria. If this happens, the blowback will fall hard on Barack Obama. His enemies, having been foaming at the mouth for years, will claim an overwhelming victory.
For Republicans, this is the moment they have waited for for nearly five years. They finally have the president stating his own personal view with a resounding call for action. They have a chance to publicly show him as an incompetent leader who wants to accomplish something but cannot do it. They will portray him as weak, as someone who failed with the world watching. They will discuss how this showing of weak leadership will give our enemies all the more reason to attack us. They will show that what we have is a president whose legacy is now tainted and who will have lost any chance to accomplish anything significant during the duration of his presidency.
What they won’t realize is that nothing could be farther from the truth.
If the United States Congress ultimately decides not to go to war, it will be one of the best things for Barack Obama’s presidency. Yes, the immediate fallout will be swift. In addition to it being Christmas 24/7 on Fox, odds are that Obama’s approval rating will reach a new five-year low. However, remember that the American public has an extremely short memory. When was the last time you heard someone in the media raise a cry for gun control? Soon enough, the American public will move on to the issue of raising the debt ceiling, an issue where President Obama has continually proven to be the only adult in the room.
What’s important is that the legacy of Obama’s actions over the Syria conflict will resonate from generations to come. First and foremost, the Bush Doctrine is officially dead. Long gone are the day of unilateral warfare based on the good word of an American Secretary of State. A new world has emerged with the executive and legislative branches of government working together in deciding the involvement of our country’s military. What we have here is an American president suggesting a course of action, but allowing an elected body of officials to ultimately decide whether or not that action comes to fruition. This is a complete 180 from the Bush years and also conveniently destroys the right’s talking point about Dictator Obama.
Equally important is the damage that this course of action will ultimately do to the Republican Party. Despite the consistent infighting, one thing that has united the Republican Party of late has been their constant support of war and war profiteering. What we have here is a party united against President Obama and ultimately bucking its ties to the military industrial complex. Who would have thought that the Republican Party, after brazenly supporting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, would find a war that it did not like? And yet, they may very well have found one in Syria. Dick Chaney never imagined that a war for his buddies at Halliburton would be prevented by members of his own party.

Hans Blix on how the world would receive a strike on Syria by the US alone
By Rawan Jabaji
Fri Sep 6, 2013 9:45 AM EDT
As the debate about military intervention in Syria continues, it seems like almost everyone has an opinion on the matter. At the end of the day, though, the debate will be dictated by the evidence. The intelligence gathered must back-up the claims being made.
For first hand insight on the tension between waiting for the UN’s conclusions and a nation’s sense of urgency for military action, we called an expert – former chief UN weapons inspector for Iraq from 2000–2003, Hans Blix. On Thursday night’s show, Rachel shared Blix’s response to Secretary of State Kerry’s case for action against Syria. We also spoke with him about what it would mean if the U.S. acted alone in Syria. Here’s what he had to say:

Thanks to Republicans Kids Are Sharing Out of Date Textbooks in NC Public Schools
By: Dennis S
Sep. 4th, 2013
The Deep South race to the bottom continues unabated. And for members of that august right-wing geographical club, the destination of absolute political zero is looming ever-closer. There are all manner of absolute zeros – physics, chemistry, PH, Fahrenheit, Celsius and other esoteric measurements. For our purposes political absolute zero is the lowest possible temperature at which there appears to be any warmth whatsoever in radical Republican brain cells.
The two most absolute of the zeros I’m writing about today are neighbors, North and South Carolina. Mostly I’ll cover the Tarheel (Tar Heel acceptable as well) state. What NC and SC most have in common are two putrid right-wing legislatures that turn out one repulsively radical bill (guns, voter ID, abortion) after another. They also have a mutual adoration society for destroying public schools.
………………….
The AP story is a nice piece of objective journalism (a rarity these days) that refuses to give McCrory’s lies a pass. The reporter is Michael Biesecker and he reports that not only do North Carolina teachers have to ante up their own money for supplies that state funding shortages don’t cover in their school district, but that obligation has now been extended to the parents. Yes, mom and pop, in addition to shoring up public schools (and increasingly private ones) with their tax dollars are now being hit in the wallet again as they dig deep to pay for such mundane fare as notebooks, crayons and glue sticks and deeper for the more expensive stuff including copier paper and cleaning supplies.
A veteran female Elementary School teacher (only a quarter of her colleagues are male) is quoted as saying, “We don’t have the funds we need. It gets kind of frustrating when you hear about some of the things they’re spending money on down in Raleigh and we don’t have paper.” She has actually sent a list home with students identifying supplies needed in her classroom that aren’t covered by the state. If the parents come up short, the money comes out of her pocket. Most teachers, at least in red states, have already had to buy at least some materials for the new school year. My wife’s school has been out of copy paper for the last three days.
It’s gotten so bad that North Carolina’s new textbook budget that once stood in excess of $100 million in 2008 has dipped to $24 million this fiscal year. Money for classroom supplies has been cut nearly in half from $44 million to $24 million. Think about it. In an era when new technologies are exploding, North Carolina students already come up short by being taught from dated and often irrelevant textbooks starting in Elementary School.

The wrong Republican to talk about food stamps
By Steve Benen
Thu Sep 5, 2013 2:21 PM EDT
Before Congress broke for its August recess, House Republicans were still refusing to work on a bipartisan farm bill, insisting on punitive efforts that made it vastly more difficult for struggling Americans to eat. A month later, the legislation is still pending.
With this in mind, the New York Times reports today from Dyerburg, Tenn., where reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg talked to some low-income locals in dire straits. A struggling mechanic hunts doves and squirrels to help feed his family, and limits himself to one meal a day. A woman who left her job skinning hogs at a slaughterhouse when she became ill with cancer also said she only eats once a day.
And then there’s their congressman, Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.), who’s eager to make their lives much more difficult.
……………
Let’s unpack this a bit, because I think it’s important. First, “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat” referred to ancient Christians who had stopped working in anticipation of Jesus’ Second Coming, not lazy people.
Second, Fincher’s constituents who are struggling to get by aren’t “unwilling to work”; many of them do work. They nevertheless need to rely on a public safety net to continue to eat their once-a-day meal.
And third, Fincher collected nearly $3.5 million in taxpayer-financed farm subsidies from 1999 to 2012, including roughly $70,000 just last year in the form of direct payments from Washington, paid for by you and me.

Zimmerman’s Wife Recounts Reasons for Divorce to ABC: ‘I Have a Selfish Husband’

“I stood by my husband through everything, and I feel like he left me with a bunch of pieces of broken glass, that I’m supposed to now assemble and make a life,”
Could this woman be more of a narcissist? Is it even possible? It’s not about Trayvon, the innocent child who was murdered. It’s not about his mother and father who grieve for their murdered child until the day they leave the Earth. No, as far as Shellie is concerned, it is all about her.
Dear God, in Your mercy will You vaporize Shellie and George Zimmerman in the spot they are standing?
Can you believe that? “I stood by my husband”? He slaughtered an innocent kid for crying out loud! Can this woman be anymore ignorant?
She feels nothing for the death of a child, absolutely nothing, except for hoping it would make her rich.
Skepticism and Wariness in Talk of Syria Attack
By MICHAEL WINES
Published: September 5, 2013
WAYNESBURG, Pa. — From his bar-side perch at Hot Rod’s House of Barbeque here, 57-year-old Wolf Tripp argued that President George W. Bush had ample cause a decade ago to dispatch troops and armor into Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein. “Look at the mass graves,” he declared. “Hussein gassed his own people.”
The gassing last month of hundreds of Syrian civilians is entirely another matter. And sending cruise missiles there to punish the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, is out of the question, Mr. Tripp said this week.
“What are we going to do, borrow more money from China to fight?” he said. “It’s their civil war. Why are we going in there?”
……………………..
And here, at least, more than a few see military action against Syria as unacceptable simply because it is Mr. Obama’s idea.
In town to speak to students at Waynesburg University about Syria, the area’s congressman, Tim Murphy, a Republican who called himself undecided, said his office had received a few hundred calls and messages from constituents about Syria. “Generally, the calls are like this: ‘I can’t stand President Obama; don’t you dare go along with him,’ ” he said.
In the university library, Mr. Murphy spent an hour tutoring some 20 undergraduates on the complexities of Congress’s impending decision. When he finished, all but one of the students pronounced involvement in Syria a mistake. Mr. Obama’s main argument that the world has a moral obligation to act against those who use chemical weapons went unmentioned.

Post Boehner?
by BooMan
Fri Sep 6th, 2013 at 08:15:27 AM EST
There has been a lot of recent speculation that John Boehner might give up the Speaker’s gavel, grab a lobbying job and an Augusta National Golf Club membership, and retire from Congress. There has also been some speculation about what that might mean for the country and the world and the future of the cosmos.
Without getting too deep about it, I think things will only get worse for the country if Boehner leaves, but it might help the GOP avoid some unforced errors. Let’s face it. Even in good times, the conservative movement is not built to run the federal government and oversee its many agencies and departments. It is not built solve problems or find efficiencies. It is mainly built to sell books and electronic advertising based on the idea that the federal government is bad and needs to be dismantled. Once Boehner leaves, it is a near certainty that a true movement conservative will replace him as the Republican leader in the House of Representatives.
That’s not good if you care about the performance and public popularity of the federal government, but if his replacement can stay sober past mid-afternoon and show some actual backbone once in a while, they might avoid being humiliated by their own caucus on a regular basis.

Bill de Blasio’s Campaign for the 99 Percent Enjoys Broad Support in NYC Race
By: Keith Brekhus
Sep. 5th, 2013
When New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio began his mayoral campaign he was a dark horse candidate who was given little chance of winning. In a field that included Christine Quinn, Bill Thompson and Anthony Weiner, Mr. de Blasio was little more than a foot note. In June, he was running in a distant fourth place, polling just 10 percent of the vote to 25 percent for Weiner, 20 percent for Quinn and 13 percent for Thompson. However, by expressing concern about the racially discriminatory way in which the “stop and frisk” policy is being used, and by running an unabashed economically progressive campaign, voicing the concerns of the 99 percent, de Blasio has surged to a commanding lead in the mayoral race.
A Quinnipiac poll released on September 3rd, finds de Blasio polling 43 percent to 20 percent for Thompson, 18 percent for Quinn and 7 percent for Weiner. His polling numbers are particularly significant because if de Blasio clears 40 percent on Tuesday night’s primary, he will avoid a runoff election and become the Democratic nominee for mayor in New York City. The poll also reveals that de Blasio is receiving especially strong support from black voters (47 percent) and women voters (44 percent), despite facing an African-American (Thompson) and female (Quinn) candidate in the primary. The race is not being defined by identity politics as much as it is by ideas, and de Blasio is running a campaign that is populist, progressive and speaks to the concern of ordinary workers and residents of New York City.
In some respects, de Blasio is the quintessential anti-Bloomberg. Not a Manhattan billionaire, but a Brooklyn-based public advocate, de Blasio proposes a tax increase on the wealthy to better fund New York City schools. He is the only major candidate in the race whose children attend New York City public schools. Furthermore, he has been harshly critical of the New York Police Department’s racially discriminatory “stop and frisk” policy as it has operated under Bloomberg’s leadership. In so doing, de Blasio has aligned himself with the residents who have either been harassed or forgotten in Bloomberg’s version of Gotham City.

U.S. economy created 169k jobs in August, jobless rate dips
By Steve Benen
Fri Sep 6, 2013 8:47 AM EDT
The jobs reports are starting to get a little predictable, by virtue of the fact that over the last several months, they’re effectively the same.
The new report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the U.S. economy added 169,000 jobs in August, which is roughly in line with expectations. After years of public-sector layoffs serving as a drag on the overall economy, we’re starting to see a slight turnaround — the private sector added 152,000 jobs last month, while the public sector added 17,000 jobs. That may seem like a fairly modest number, but it’s the most in recent memory.
The overall unemployment rate dropped to 7.3%, which is the lowest it’s been in nearly five years, but it’s not evidence of good news — it ticked down largely because of people leaving the workforce.
Indeed, while the 169,000 jobs added in August isn’t an awful preliminary report, on the whole, this morning’s figures are quite discouraging. The key is the revisions — June totals were revised down from 188,000 to 172,000, while July’s totals were revised down from 162,000 to 104,000. Combined, that’s a whopping 74,000 jobs we thought were created, but weren’t.
This should, in theory, send some key signals to policymakers in Washington. The Federal Reserve really shouldn’t be too eager to scale back its intervention, and Congress would ideally be looking for ways to give the job market a boost in order to strengthen a larger economic recovery. The latter appears highly unlikely — Republican lawmakers continue to back job-killing sequestration budget cuts and are now threatening another debt-ceiling crisis that would destroy the job market (again).

Alan Grayson Conspires with Far Right Lunatics to Lie and Fundraise off of Syria
Thursday, September 05, 2013 | Posted by Spandan C at 3:36 PM
You know Alan Grayson, everyone’s favorite emoprog Congressman. It’s not a surprise that he’s against military intervention in Syria, or that his position on this, however ironically, is militant. But what is appalling is that Grayson is using blatant lies and an undercover alliance with Republicans to try to have his way. For all his talk about his being a vote of conscience, he doesn’t show any, nor seems to have respect for the conscience of others.
Speaking to The Atlantic and US News, Grayson basically called President Obama a liar in the face of overwhelming evidence against the Assad regime regarding the use of chemical weapons. US News reports:
This is a flat out lie. Not only has the administration publicly declassified an intelligence report making the case, members of Congress from John Boehner to Barbara Lee have said that they are satisfied with the Administration’s case that Assad used chemical weapons, whether or not they believe it makes the case for military action on that merit alone. As I reported earlier, Barbara Lee – who’s been a champion of the anti-war cause long before Grayson found time to get his billionaire privileged behind to Congress, made clear the position of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, saying the administration has “been very persuasive about the intelligence.”

Another great read by Spandan.
A. Alan Grayson’s formula:
B. Rant & Rave against Obama!
C. Ask supporters to Rant & rave against Obama!
D. Ask supporters to check out his Paypal & send him cash for ranting &raving against Obama!
Did I sum up Grayson’s intentions here?

The prevailing winds on Capitol Hill
By Steve Benen
Fri Sep 6, 2013 8:00 AM EDT.
There’s no shortage of congressional head counts when it comes to authorizing the use of force in Syria, but I’d caution against taking them too seriously. The briefings for lawmakers are still underway, and while many have firm opinions, there is not yet an actual, agreed upon resolution for lawmakers to read and consider.
That said, at least for now, the prevailing winds on Capitol Hill are blowing in an unmistakable direction.
Senate support appears more likely, but is by no means a sure thing.

GOP Legislator Brings Fried Chicken To Capitol As Protest For Race Free Speech
In a show of solidarity with a colleague who was rebuked last month for bringing up fried chicken during a discussion about the poverty rate among African-Americans, a Colorado lawmaker brought a box of chicken to the state capitol in Denver on Wednesday.
During an Aug. 21 legislative task force meeting, state Sen. Vicki Marble (R) mentioned both barbeque and fried chicken as she addressed racial disparities in the poverty rate.
“When you look at life expectancy, there are problems in the black race: sickle-cell anemia is something that comes up, diabetes is something that’s prevalent in the genetic makeup and you just can’t help it,” Marble said. “Although I’ve got to say, I’ve never had better barbeque and better chicken and ate better in my life than when you go down south and you — I love it.”
The remarks were swiftly denounced by state Democrats while Republicans distanced themselves. Marble, for her part, insisted she did not not intend “to be disparaging to any community.”
But on Wednesday, with the task force meeting for the first time since the flap, state Rep. Lori Saine (R) staged what she called a “silent protest” against the uproar generated by Marble’s remarks by placing a box of Popeye’s fried chicken on her desk.

Plies honors Trayvon Martin with memorial gold chain
by Kyle Harvey | September 5, 2013 at 1:35 PM
We all have our own ways of grieving when someone passes away.
The death of Trayvon Martin has had a huge impact on the African-American community and while some honored the teen by blacking out their profile pictures on social media and wearing hoodies, rapper Plies went an entirely different route.
In a video message to his fans, the Florida rapper reveals his new gold Trayvon Martin chain. While unorthodox, Plies appears to be sincere with his gesture.
“I wanted to make sure the little homie was with me at all times,” he said. “He impacted my life just that much.”
Plies went on to pay his respects to the Martin family for the loss of their child and promised that Trayvon will never be forgotten.
“Trayvon, I’m gonna keep you around my neck at all times…It’s just that important to me.”

Fake blood-covered mannequins: Italy’s 1st black minister is targeted again
by Steve Scherer, Reuters | September 5, 2013 at 5:04 PM
BC News – Italy’s far-right Forza Nuova party left three mannequins covered in fake blood at the front door of an administrative office in Rome on Wednesday in the latest attack on Italy’s first black minister.
Integration Minister Cecile Kyenge, who was born in Democratic Republic of Congo, has been the target of repeated racist attacks since taking office in April.
Forza Nuova posted pictures of the mannequins on its Facebook page, along with comments by a spokesman saying the protest was aimed at stopping the minister’s campaign to make it easier for immigrants to acquire Italian citizenship.
“Immigration is the genocide of peoples. Kyenge resign!” read fliers bearing the Forza Nuova symbol that were scattered around the mannequins

Bernie Sanders Makes The Most Compelling Argument You’ll Ever Hear For NOT Striking Syria
By: Jason Easley

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) made an argument against military action in Syria that was easily the most compelling case that anyone on either side of the debate has offered.

Whistleblower My Ass: Snowden’s Russia Connection Confirmed by Putin
Thursday, September 05, 2013 | Posted by Spandan C at 1:52 PM
Some time ago, I wrote about a story that Edward Snowden was in contact with Russian authorities well before his arrival in Moscow and while he was still in Hong Kong. Now, Vladimir Putin has confirmed it.
Putin then went on some blathering rant about how he told Snowden to lay off the US (uh huh) and how he’s not protecting Snowden but he just wants Obama to negotiate a transfer or an extradition treaty, but the most important thing remains that Putin has now publicly acknowledged that Snowden sought Russian help from the get-go, following which, he arrived in Russia, and was eventually granted asylum.
But if you ask Snowden’s worshipers, this in no way shows that Snowden willingly took Russian shelter or that he gave or sold US intelligence to Russia. Because you know, the Russian government said so – a peculiar stand for people who do not believe that evidence of meta data collection doesn’t also mean that the government is reading your emails and listening to your phone calls without a warrant. Apparently, Putin’s government is to be trusted; Obama’s, not so much.

As Cuccinelli and McAuliffe stump at VCU, Doug Wilder shows who’s boss
By Laura Vozzella, Friday, September 6, 7:30 AM
RICHMOND — It’s good to be ex-governor. Just ask L. Douglas Wilder, the Democrat who left the governor’s office nearly 20 years ago but still wields enormous influence.
We speak not of Wilder’s power to draw both major-party candidates for governor Thursday to the class he teaches at Virginia Commonwealth University, though that was impressive.
Nor of the nakedly burning desire that Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II (R) and former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe both have for his endorsement.
No, we refer to Doug Wilder’s power to trump fire code.
More than 40 students, some from other political science classes, crowded into a fourth-floor conference room on VCU’s downtown Richmond campus to take in back-to-back appearances by Cuccinelli and McAuliffe. TV, print and radio reporters also wanted in, but a campus security officer said the room was over capacity.
As Cuccinelli began addressing the class, reporters were stuck in the hallway, straining to hear and see past the officer, who stood squarely in the open doorway. Cuccinelli campaign spokesman Richard Cullen appealed to the officer again and again to let the media in to report on his boss. The officer, invoking the fire marshal, wouldn’t budge.

Private lawyers bill Va. $90,000 more to represent McDonnell, staff in chef-theft case
By Laura Vozzella, Published: September 4
RICHMOND — A private law firm has billed taxpayers $90,000 for six weeks of work representing Gov. Robert F. McDonnell and his staff in the embezzlement case against the former chef at the executive mansion.
The fees come on top of the $54,000 that Richmond’s Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott charged earlier this summer for its first five weeks on the case.
The firm was hired to represent McDonnell (R) and his office in their official capacities regarding matters related to the chef’s prosecution because Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II (R), who ordinarily represents the governor and his staff, had conflicts of interest.
About $72,000 of the bill was for legal work performed for employees of the governor’s office, and about $18,000 was for services for McDonnell.
Those legal services are separate from the criminal defense work that another private legal team is providing to McDonnell, who has been engulfed in a gifts scandal that came to light because of the embezzlement case. A legal defense fund has been set up to pay those bills.

Little Civil Rights Pioneer Reunites With US Marshal
Ruby Bridges meets with one of her school escorts, now 91
By the Associated Press
Posted Sep 5, 2013 6:37 PM CDT
Civil rights icon Ruby Bridges, who as a 6-year-old helped end public school segregation in the South, was reunited today with one of the federal marshals who escorted her past angry crowds so she could attend a previously all-white school. Bridges, who in 1960 became the first black child to attend an all-white school in New Orleans, met with Charles Burks at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, which was filming the pair for its permanent exhibit called “The Power of Children.” Burks, now 91, is the only one of the four marshals who escorted Bridges to and from school who is still alive.
“Thank you Charlie for doing what was right at a time when it might not have been the easiest thing to do,” the 58-year-old Bridges told him. Burks said escorting Bridges to school was a highlight of his life, adding that he supported the landmark 1954 Supreme Court decision that struck down segregation in public schools. Bridges was in first grade when she started attending William Frantz Elementary School on Nov. 14, 1960, as the court-ordered integration of public schools began in New Orleans. “It was a privilege,” he said.
