Whew! This is not right.
Yet these folks vote for the very representatives who peddle the lie that they make too much.
Ametia and SG2,
I am organizing notes with people’s comments discussing their personal experiences.
I have nothing for this White privilege:
Have either of you personally been asked to be a spokesperson for Blacks?
or rikyrah?
As an alternative question:
How do you feel when a TV program interviews a individual Black about issues Blacks have concerns; about what Blacks are thinking; about what policies are important to Blacks?
an
drives me nuts.
folks can come on as individuals. and should be counted as individuals. Nobody elected these Black pundits
No ma’am!
NO I speak for myself and the experiences that me and my family & friends have had.
you don’t ever see ‘Leaders’ being trotted out on tv, except for Black leaders. Nobody ever says, ‘so-in-so, White leader’. They are ‘ so-in-so’, period.
Thank you, Ladies!
I appreciate your answers!
BLACK is not MONOLITHIC. Trying to lump us all in a race pile does NOT cut it. and it never will. It’s easier for some whites to do that than have to deal with all that INDIVIDUALITY. It’s much to much!
Thanks for this, Ametia!

David Wildstein has flipped on Christie as spectacularly as John Dean flipped on Nixon
By NJ.com
Sunday, February 2, 2014 3:58 EST
Of all the arrows fired at Gov. Chris Christie over the years, the one that inflicted the deepest wound came not from a rival, but from an ally.
David Wildstein, by all accounts, was thrilled to be part of the governor’s inner circle. He was known as a loyal member of the palace guard, the governor’s eyes and ears at the Port Authority, a buddy of Christie’s since their high school days.
And now he has flipped, as spectacularly as John Dean flipped on Richard Nixon. And in the end, Wildstein could do just as much damage.
“This guy is really mad,” says one leading Democrat who asked not to be named. “The way the letter is written is almost rambling, throwing everything in the kitchen sink. There’s a lot of anger there. He feels dissed.”
Why would Wildstein be so angry with his old boss? Look at it through his eyes.
He closed those access lanes on orders from the governor’s office after receiving the infamous message from Bridget Anne Kelly, the governor’s deputy chief of staff: “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.”

Opinion: What Mike Huckabee Wants to Take Away From Women
By Sandra Fluke
Filed: 1/24/14 at 5:05 PM | Updated: 1/24/14 at 7:22 PM
Memo to former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and the bosses at for-profit corporations who think they belong in every doctor’s office and that they should be able to decide whether their employees have access to birth control: Women who use birth control do not have an “overactive libido.” We are not looking for a handout from “Uncle Sugar” to score a contraceptive fix. We are not sluts. This is not the reality for women — it never has been and never will be.
In fact, women who use birth control are your mother, partner, sister, and daughter. Ninety-nine percent of sexually active American women have used birth control at some point in their lives. We are just regular people trying to take care of ourselves medically and financially. That’s why seven in ten Americans believe that health insurance companies should be required to cover the full cost of birth control, just as they do for other preventive services.
Yet former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee stated yesterday that the Affordable Care Act’s provision guaranteeing women access to no-copay birth control was created because women are oversexed. He explained, in a speech at the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting, that Democrats are doing women a disservice by telling them that “they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of government.”
This comes just months before the Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments in two cases challenging the birth control benefit, brought forward by the bosses of Hobby Lobby — an arts and crafts store chain — and Conestoga Wood Specialties – a cabinet manufacturer . They want the Supreme Court to decide that employers have the right to choose which medical procedures your insurance covers — based on the boss’s personal beliefs. A decision like that could take away from many the comprehensive insurance coverage that over 27 million women are already receiving under the law, and 47 million will eventually receive.
If the Supreme Court agrees with these employers, survivors of rape could effectively be charged a rape penalty in the emergency room because their insurance doesn’t cover emergency contraception, which is essentially a high dose of birth control.

Why Did Obama Go to Costco? Our Wage Calculator Explains
Check how many hours it would take you to make a living working at Costco vs. Walmart.
—By Tasneem Raja and Jaeah Lee
| Wed Jan. 29, 2014 10:44 AM GMT
This morning, President Obama visited a Costco in suburban Maryland to reemphasize the theme of income inequality he sounded in the State of the Union speech last night. Our calculator shows why Obama chose the home of the giant pickle jar and behemoth TP package: Even at the relatively low wages paid by big-box retailers, slightly better pay can mean the difference between inescapable poverty and a modest living.

Low wage workers struggle to get by
By Robert McCoppin and Lolly Bowean, Tribune reporters
8:02 am, February 2, 2014
In the bitter cold, dark hours of the night, as many others are sleeping, Rocio Caravantes begins her hourlong journey on public transportation from her home in Logan Square to one of her two jobs downtown.
Once she arrives at work, Caravantes spends hours vacuuming and scrubbing floors, polishing sinks and toilets, cleaning the bar areas and event spaces and tidying up the rugs in an upscale luxury hotel where she can’t afford to spend a night. Panic at times grips her as she thinks about how she will pay all her bills, she said.
“It is impossible to live on $8.25 an hour,” Caravantes said in Spanish, through an interpreter. “Not even three jobs are enough. I earn $495 biweekly. The first check goes to rent — it’s $500 a month. The second is for transportation, food, (phone) and education.”
Caravantes, 40, is one example of the minimum wage workers who have become the focus of a national conversation about salaries for the working poor.
It’s a political debate in the Illinois governor’s race, and Gov. Pat Quinn used his State of the State address last week to renew his push for an increase in the state minimum wage. President Barack Obama weighed in on the issue too when he asked Congress to increase the federal wage to $10.10.
Caravantes is part of a cadre of workers who prepare food, clean rooms, serve customers at department stores and take care of children, all while struggling to pay bills and provide food for their own families. Cobbling together three part-time jobs to earn a living, Caravantes thought if she worked hard, she’d be offered pay increases as a reward.
“I thought I could earn more,” Caravantes said. “I was wrong.”

Morning, everyone!
Well, That Escalated Quickly
Brian Murphy – February 2, 2014, 8:28 AM EST14685
Over Chinese food at the fabulous Lao Sze Chuan in Milford, Ct. I had the pleasure of reading Chris Christie’s 700-word-long attack on David Wildstein and the New York Times. This came moments after I opened a fortune cookie that advised me to “Enjoy yourself while you can.” (!)
I am trying to summon the requisite mood to seriously ponder the implications of the email that Governor Christie apparently sent to supporters/donors/ Politico/Beltway Republicans (as if there’s any… never mind). But I can’t. I just can’t.
It is hard for me to believe that the governor of an American state could author such a piece of risible juvenilia, except it is even harder for me to believe a paid communications professional could have been behind this. The “argument” Christie (or possibly one very very close longtime advisor) is making here is that David Wildstein is a bad guy.
Why?
Because as a “a 16-year-old kid” he filed a lawsuit over a school board election and was “publicly accused by his high school social studies teacher of deceptive behavior.” Because he was, according to Christie, a “tumultuous” person (not the correct usage of that word, Governor, but whatever). Because he was “a political animal” who had “a controversial tenure” as the mayor of Livingston. Because he “made moves that were not productive.”

Life after Jan. 1: Kentucky clinic offers early glimpse at realities of health-care law
By Stephanie McCrummen, Published: February 1 E-mail the writer
in Breathitt County, Ky. — The envelopes began arriving in December across eastern Kentucky, one of the sickest and poorest corners of the country.
“Dear member . . . We want you to be healthy . . .” read the letter to Mary Combs, and with it came a plastic card representing the first insurance she ever had: a Medicaid plan made possible by the nation’s new health-care law, effective Jan. 1.
Nine days into the new year, the 41-year-old call-center worker headed to the health clinic on Highway 15. She saw a doctor about her chronic stomach ulcers, had her blood drawn for tests and collected referrals for all the specialists she had been told she needed but could never afford.
The next week, she saw a neurologist, who found lesions on her brain and prescribed medicine for the cluster headaches, which are also called “suicide headaches” for pain that is far more intense than a migraine and which Combs had been treating with an alcohol-soaked cloth wrapped around her head. She lined up a gynecologist for abnormal uterine bleeding and a hematologist for anemia and an ophthalmologist for an affliction she called “arthritis of the eye,” which was diagnosed on one of the rare occasions she decided to see a specialist, a $250 visit her husband paid for by selling his lawn mower.
“She got mad at that,” Johnny Combs said now, waiting in an exam room with his wife, who was back at the clinic again, this time for an earache she would normally treat with sweet-oil drops.
“Well, we needed that mower, too,” Mary Combs said, and soon the nurse practitioner arrived, and a new conversation began:
“Okay,” she said. “We are no stranger to these ear complaints.”
“No,” said Combs, who soon had another referral for an ear, nose and throat specialist, as Week 3 in the world of the newly insured carried on.
This is the world that many critics of the new health-care law have worried about, one in which the sick and the poor expand the ranks of Medicaid while other Americans see premiums rise, policies canceled or favorite doctors booted out of networks.
