The duo are often credited along with Kirk Franklin for broadening the fan base of urban contemporary gospel in the 2000s by introducing elements of soul music, hip hop, funk and jazz. Mary Mary broke onto the music scene with their popular song “Shackles (Praise You)”—which is considered one of the pioneering songs of urban contemporary gospel music. The group’s name, as stated in an interview is inspired by the two famous Mary’s from the Bible; Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, and Mary Magdalene.[2]

Their debut album, Thankful (2000), was certified Platinum. In addition, the duo has released two Gold albums: Incredible (2002) and Mary Mary (2005), both of which have charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums. They have also received four Grammys, among other awards. In 2011, they released their fifth studio album, Something Big.

Teen Killed Over Prank Celebrated by Schoolmates and Family

Family and friends gathered at a Little Rock church on Saturday to mourn the loss of the 15-year-old Arkansas teen fatally shot over a prank.

The funeral for Adrian DeeJay Broadway comes on the heels of a high school celebration where the popular young cheerleader would have sat on the homecoming court.

Broadway was shot in the head on Feb. 15 by 48-year-old Willie Noble after she and her friends covered his car with toilet paper, eggs, mayonnaise and leaves, Little Rock Police said.

Noble told police he fired shots in the direction of the teens in an effort to scare them but wasn’t looking to strike any of the pranksters, authorities said. He is being held on a $500,000 bond at Pulaski County Jail and charged with first-degree murder, one count of a terroristic act and five counts of aggravated assault, according to jail records.

McClellan High School honored the freshman during homecoming festivities Friday. She would have taken center-stage during the game, as a member of the cheer squad and royalty in homecoming court, according to NBC affiliate KARK.

This is the most important election since the Africans were dragged off that ship in the summer of August 1619. I won’t belabor the point BUT my message from the heart is that every son, daughter, and descendant of slaves, honor those who made it possible for us to be free to vote.

The future is in your hands.

Vote as if your life dependent on it because it does!!!
