In 2009: DHS warned white supremacy is the biggest threat for domestic terror

janet napolitanoIn 2009 Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned white supremacy is the biggest threat for domestic terrorism.

Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment

CBS News: The “Key Findings” section of the report opens with these words: “The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing* terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment.”

Republican John Boehner blasted the report and criticized Janet Napolitano for not focusing more on the REAL threat.. Islamic terrorists.

Michelle Malkin wrote: The report was one of the most embarrassingly shoddy pieces of propaganda I’d ever read out of DHS. I couldn’t believe it was real. By contrast, the piece of crap report issued on April 7 is a sweeping indictment of conservatives.

Janet Napolitano walked back the report and then it began..

The national media’s spectacular failure – or perhaps intentional ignorance – of American homegrown terrorism is among the most serious of the failings of the press. But could the power of the word ‘terrorism’, properly used, change the course of our political gridlock? It certainly could.

Today the Republican Party refuses to reject & condemn White Supremacists, anti-Semites, anti-government militias, anti-American secessionists, racist Neo-Nazis, and John Birchers like the $Billionaire KOCH Brothers because they don’t want to alienate their “BASE”? Duhh???

Yes, Rachel, Why is right-winged extremism treated as a LONE ACT? Lone wolf nonsense, when it is a GROUP of hateful, deranged white folks.

  4. I dmovit doubt it. In the news last we this guy got apartment in a expensive building in Riverside. One of the better neighborhoods in the Bronx. He has been harassed regularly. The defaced his truck twice telling him to move. His brother came to see him and the doorman told him her has the wrong building. The guy doesn’t want any problems so he’s going to move. The have been keeping us from moving in their neighborhoods forever. Back in the 90’s this white guy had to sell his house or loss it. He got a bid from a black family. The neighbors asked him not to sell to the black family. He told them he had no choice. The neighbors brought the house to keep the black family out. Meanwhile they are buying brownstone in Brooklyn and Harlem a moving the black folks out..

Shootings should not be referred as “incidents” It’s a murder and when there are witness’s like there are, he’s not a ‘suspect” he’s a murderer.

    ………………….but that’s just me.

I can see that racists would be a real problem, but most of already knew that.

Good post, SG2. Napolitano did not do us any favors by backing down from the critics. Most of us have learned by now that the louder Boehner and Company yell, the greater the consequences for not speaking out LOUDER & OFTEN.

Being older doesn’t change the fact that these hateful right-wing groups grew up with their warped white supremacist attitudes and behaviors.

Older assailants have ‘track record’ on hate crimes

The USA is currently in the fifth year of a violent wave of right-wing extremism, including anti-government groups and white supremacists, which encourages violent acts by lone wolf assailants, he said. Cross, though on the periphery of the white supremacist movement, was still active alone.

Unlike left-wing extremists and domestic Islamic militants, who tend to be younger, right-wing extremists are often radicalized around middle age and could lash out with a violent act well into their retirement years, Pitcavage said.

And, as in the case of Cross, that elderly persona could be disarming, he said.
