    Dr Dre is all over the news lately about the pending sale of his Beats by Dr Dre headphone set company to Apple for a reported $3.2 cool billions! He was in California toasting the news with friends including Tyrese who recorded this celebratory video below. Listen to Dr Dre in the video footage declare himself as the first billionaire in hip hop. A sign of how good hard work pays off. The video is too hilarious to pass up. Check it out!

    No Pitting or Pulling a Jolie here, darlings. They’re on the very best red carpet behavior.

    “Pitting” and “Pulling a Jolie” are terms we coined which are now in wide use the world over and we shouldn’t have to explain them to you because everyone knows what they mean and regularly laud us for our brilliance in coming up with them. We’re pretty sure they’re in the dictionary and everything. But for those of you who aren’t up on the absolute latest in bitchy lingo, “Pitting” refers to guys who think they’re so good looking they don’t have to put any effort in on the red carpet and “Pulling a Jolie” means roughly the same thing for the ladystars. These two were always the height of giving no fucks on the RC.

    Which is why it’s so nice to see them both putting the effort in lately. There’s nothing wrong with being put together and elegant, amirite, Brad and Angie? Especially as you get a little older and branch out in your careers into things like producing and charity work. She looks truly spectacular. She and Elle are clearly dressing like their characters for the poledance, and while we wouldn’t normally applaud being so literal about it, we think this is a case where they and the movie are well served by making that constant connection between star and role. Also: that’s the best makeup job we’ve seen on her in some time. She looks radiant.

    He looks a little sleazy, yes. The gold chain and the black dress shirt with two opened buttons? That’s never not gonna read “strip joint owner” to us. You add in the transition lenses and the slicked back hair and you’ve got a guy most ladies would cross the street to avoid. Except he’s Brad Pitt, which means he can do all these things and still come off looking hot. Besides, this is pretty much who he is. He’s not a George Clooney type, always showing up in the same classic suit or tuxedo. He’s always cultivated a slightly rougher image for himself. This is a long way of saying that none of this is our taste and we would not have advised him to make most of these choices, but he can pull it off because he’s Brad Pitt. Please don’t try this at home. Brad is a trained driver on an enclosed track.

    Here’s your first look at Lee Daniels’ hip hop/family drama series Empire, which is set up at FOX, for a 2014/2015 debut.

    Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Macy Gray, Bryshere Y. Gray (aka rapper Yazz The Greatest), Trai Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, Malik Yoba, and Grace Gealey make up the cast.

    The project, which reportedly sparked a bidding war among the 4 major broadcast networks last year, received a pilot commitment from FOX, and is described as a drama about a family-run hip-hop empire, hence the title.

    Howard plays Lucious Lyon, a charismatic, but tough chief of a record label titled Empire Entertainment, which is on the verge of an IPO.

    Meanwhile, Henson is Cookie Lyon, the ex-wife of Lucious Lyon, who’s described as a “total badass” with a prison record (she served 17 years for dealing drugs, and used the money to help finance Lucious’ growing music empire, when it was still in its early days). She’s now out of prison, and has come for what’s hers!

    Jussie Smollett plays their son, Jamal, a fledgling rapper himself, who is also gay – something that Lucious, the father, has a problem with.

    Macy Gray will appear as Tasha, a woman having an affair with Bryshere Y. Gray’s character, Hakeem Lyon, Lucious’ other son, the youngest, and Lucious’ favorite, and the frontrunner to take over his father’s empire.

    Trai Byers will play Andre, Lucious’ oldest son, described as tall and brilliant, but with a dark side, and Grace Gealey will play Anika, the head of A&R for Empire Entertainment, and Lucious’ current girlfriend.

    Finally, Gabourey Sidibe will recur as Lucious’ hard-working assistant Becky, and Malik Yoba will do the same, as his longtime friend from the streets and business associate, who is now Empire Entertainment’s chairman of the board.

    Let all the family drama ensue!

    In the upcoming Starz drama Power, Naturi Naughton co-stars as the wife of Ghost (Omari Hardwick), a New York nightclub owner living a double life as a drug kingpin. Created by 50 Cent, the series is set to premiere this summer.

    Naughton has starred in a string of film and television projects since starting her career as a teenage member of R&B group 3LW in the early 2000s, and most notably appeared as Lil Kim in the Notorious BIG biopic Notorious. This fall, she’ll star in BET’s original movie Let the Church Say Amen, the directorial debut for Regina King.

    The actress recently spoke with Shadow And Act about her new projects and what we can look forward to seeing from her next.

    JAI TIGGETT: What can you share about your character in Power?

    NATURI NAUGHTON: Tasha St. Patrick, she’s crazy. She really is Ghost’s sidekick, the other half of Bonnie and Clyde. She came up from the streets, grew up in Queens, and had a rough life. She had desires to be a singer but those desires got cut short because she was pregnant at 19 with Ghost’s child. He’s trying to choose between going legit and staying in the drug game, and she’s pretty much the woman who’s like look, we’ve built this empire together, I’ll ride with you to the end. She’ll throw the gun away, she’ll tell you how to dump the body. She’s an edgy character and not afraid to do whatever it takes to keep the family together.

    Not too long ago, Sergio reminded us of the 1973 NBC Mystery Movie series Tenafly, which featured a black actor, James McEachin, as its lead. In his post on the experimental-for-its-time monthly program, Sergio remarked, “Maybe it’s my imagination [but], compared to what we have today, there seemed to be a lot more black TV series back in the day.”

    Sergio went on to say, “And there was a diversity in them too, from sitcoms to dramas. Not all of them were great (not even remotely) or were hits, but at least they were there.”

    That got me wondering about what other forgotten TV shows there are out there that many of us have forgotten, or never saw, and may never have a chance to see again.

    Before famed TV show creator Steven Bochco gave us TV classics such as Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue, he created a police drama series in 1979 for CBS called Paris, which featured none other than acclaimed stage/film actor James Earl Jones in the lead role of Detective Capt. Woodrow “Woody” Paris. As Paris, Jones played a veteran LAPD captain who led a team of newer, younger detectives. Paris also moonlighted as a university criminology professor, and was married to a nurse.

    Paris featured a diverse supporting cast that included actress Lee Chamberlin, as Paris’ wife Barbara; and actor Michael Warren, as Det. Willie Miller. Rounding out the cast were Hank Garrett, Cecilia Hart, Frank Ramirez, and Jake Mitchell.

    In 1979, I was a child, so I obviously never saw an episode of Paris. But I’ve watched a lot of TV since then, and I’d be hard pressed to name another TV series, led by a black actor, with a similarly diverse supporting cast, that has aired on CBS since then.

    In my quest to learn more about CBS’ Paris, I also learned that the ABC network had attempted similar programming a year prior with the airing of The Lazarus Syndrome, starring Louis Gossett, Jr. in the lead role of Dr. MacArthur St. Clair, a medical doctor caught up in a web of deceit and adultery at the hospital in which he resided.

    Tracee Ellis Ross Will Play Anthony Anderson’s Wife In ABC’s Kenya Barris Pilot, ‘Black-ish’

    Tracee Ellis Ross has joined Anthony Anderson and Laurence Fishburne in ABC’s Kenya Barris pilot, Black-ish (working title).
    Based on Barris’ own life (loosely), Black-ish will follow an upper-middle class black man, intent on raising his kids with some sense of cultural identity, in the face of an assault of constant contradictions and obstacles coming from various directions, insisting that his children be color-blind.

    “I decided to do this project when I looked up and realized that everywhere I go I’m constantly the fly in buttermilk… I’m usually THE Black guy at work. We’re THE Black family in the neighborhood. My kids are basically THE Black kids at school. I think it’s kind of a situation of be careful what you wish for. It’s almost in like moving on up, I’ve sort of priced myself “out” of being Black,” said Barris.
    Anderson will play the lead, with Fishburne as his old-school father. Tracee Ellis Ross will play Anderson’s wife.

    Black-ish is produced by Fishburne and his producing partner Helen Sugland, with Tom Russo, Anderson and Barris exec producing, along with Peter Principato, Paul Young and Brian Dobbins.

    Barris’ writing credits also include (Are We There Yet?, Soul Food, Girlfriends, The Game) and he’s also co-creator of America’s Next Top Model.

    The Affordable Care Act gives former foster kids healthcare benefits to age 26, though they may not know it

    Rain clouds couldn’t spoil Kenisha Anthony’s afternoon as she emerged from the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables on Saturday with an associate degree in social work from Miami Dade College. The 22-year-old from Miami had survived the school of hard knocks that is Florida’s foster care system to reach this moment. Now a provision of the Affordable Care Act promises to help her make an even better start.

    As of Jan. 1, Anthony and others who aged out of foster care became eligible for Medicaid until they turn 26, just as other young adults can stay on their parents’ health plans to that age as part of the ACA. But not all former foster children may know about this little-discussed Obamacare benefit, especially if they’re no longer in the system.

    Anthony learned about it through a group called Florida Youth SHINE, a network of former foster children who are working to find and enroll this population.

    “I found SHINE on the Internet and contacted them to join. They helped me deal with the technical issues of applying. Now I can go to the doctor,” Anthony said.

    Comedy Central Names Replacement for The Colbert Report

    Larry Wilmore, the senior black correspondent on The Daily Show, will be hosting his own program called The Minority Report next year to replace the 11:30 slot currently held by Stephen Colbert. Colbert is vacating the spot at the end of the year, when his Comedy Central contract expires, freeing him up to take over The Late Show next year when David Letterman officially retires.

    If you’re looking for some beach reading this summer, you might pick up a copy of this soon-to-be-released book: “Faithless Execution: Building the Political Case for Obama’s Impeachment,” by National Review writer Andrew McCarthy. It’s hitting bookstores at the perfect time, just as John Boehner has appointed a select committee to investigate Benghazi, and will no doubt be required reading on Capitol Hill and at the Fox News studios.
    Is it reasonable to surmise that a move to impeach Barack Obama is a realistic possibility?

      I strongly suspect that the GOP will try.

      However, they have a “scandal” problem. The resurgence of Monica Lewinsky really should remind them that the American masses can’t get behind a sexless scandal. How many folks, outside of the Tea Party haters and the grayheads blaring Fox all day, are concerned about Benghazi? Seriously.
