Veterans Affairs Secretary Shinseki announces he’s ousting leadership of Phoenix VA hospital

PHOENIX – Embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki announced several changes in the VA system on Friday, saying he’ll remove senior leaders at the Phoenix VA center and eliminate performance awards for VA leaders in 2014.

He apologized to veterans and Congress for not recognizing the extent of problems in the VA system earlier, but declared, “This situation can be fixed.”

Shinseki described the actions in an address to the annual conference of homeless veterans in Washington.

He’s fighting to keep his job and meets at 10:15 a.m. Friday with President Obama, who earlier said he plans to have a “serious conversation” with Shinseki about whether he’s the right man to fix the veterans’ care crisis.

Documents Show the VA Debacle Began Under George W. Bush
    By Mariah Blake

According to VA inspector general reports and other documents that have gone overlooked in the current firestorm, federal officials knew about the scheme at the heart of the scandal—falsifying VA records to cover up the long wait times for medical care—years before Obama became president.

Glad you made this post. I have long been disgusted by Country Last, knowing that he has routinely voted against anything that helped the common enlisted man. Oh, if it was something that helped the Defense Contractors, he and the rest of these clowns, couldn’t raise their hands fast enough. But, something that would help the common enlisted man, they can come up with a million reasons until the end of time, as to why they can’t vote for to help them.

Keep on pointing out their hypocrisy.

  5. POUR IT ON THEM, AMETIA! Fake ass mofos sticking it to our Vets who sacrificed their lives. No shame!!!!!!!!!!!!

Republican Warmongers Should Be Held Accountable for VA Scandal
Don’t let the loudmouths in Congress fool you. Plenty of blame to go around.

    By Joe Conason-May 26, 2014 |

While Congress eagerly prepares its latest political stunt — a resolution to oust Gen. Eric Shinseki as Veterans Affairs Secretary — individual members might consider their own responsibility for the scandalous inadequacy of veterans’ health care. Unlike most of them, especially on the Republican side, Shinseki opposed the incompetent war plans of the George W. Bush administration that left so many American service men and women grievously wounded. And unlike most of them, especially on the Republican side, Shinseki has done much to reduce the backlog of veterans seeking care, despite the congressional failure to provide sufficient funding.

Anyone paying attention knows by now that those secret waiting lists at VA facilities — which may have led to the premature deaths of scores of injured veterans — are a direct consequence of policy decisions made in the White House years before President Barack Obama got there. The misguided invasion of Iraq — carried out with insufficient numbers of troops shielded by insufficient armor — led directly to thousands of new cases of traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other physical and mental disabilities requiring speedy treatment.

The VA Scandal, More Of The Same

On this Memorial Day weekend, you may, if you like, picture me making the “I’m shocked, shocked I tell you!” face.

So there’s chicanery and malfeasance in the Veterans Administration, is there?

The VA hospital in Phoenix diddled the books, did they?

Administrators shuffled ailing vets into secret waiting lists, delaying medical treatment for months, maybe years, in order to pump up the hospital’s stats and make it look like they were meeting the goals established by President Obama for prompt service.

Veterans, some forty and maybe more, died while awaiting treatment – whether or not any of the deaths can be directly linked to deferred access is still undetermined.

And now it’s emerging that this practice of secret lists and deliberately delayed care might be far more widespread within the Department of Veterans Affairs than just the Phoenix hospital.

    Outrageous, isn’t it?

I mean, you’re outraged, right? Well of course you are.

The country is outraged in patriotic indignation. This is bullshit! We should treat our heroes better than that!
