U.S. attorney general announces grant to study police racial profiling

(Reuters) – U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday announced the award of a $4.75 million three-year grant to a group of educational and research organizations to study arrest data in five U.S. cities and implement changes to combat any findings of racial profiling.
The cities, which have yet to be chosen, will serve as pilots to test strategies for building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve, Holder said.
Unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting death of Michael Brown last month revived the importance of the initiative, Holder said, which originally had been announced in April.

Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson testified Tuesday to the St. Louis County grand jury that is investigating whether he should be charged in the shooting death of Michael Brown, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Wilson testified for nearly four hours, according to the newspaper, which cited “a source with knowledge of the investigation.”
A spokesperson for St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch declined to confirm the report to the Post-Dispatch.
McCulloch’s office had previously said that Wilson would be “offered the opportunity” to testify. It is generally unusual, however, for the subject of a grand jury investigation to agree to testify because of the legal risk involved.
The Post-Dispatch also reported Tuesday that the grand jury would have until Jan. 7 to decide whether Wilson should be charged in Brown’s Aug. 9 shooting.
This really ticks me off to no end. Darren Wilson has had plenty of time to listen to all the witnesses and adjust his story. If he’s not indicted Ferguson will erupt like a volcano.

Protesters seeking the immediate arrest of the Ferguson police officer who fatally shot an unarmed 18-year-old last month disrupted a government meeting Tuesday, renewing calls to remove the county prosecutor investigating the case.
The demand for Darren Wilson’s arrest and the recusal of the St. Louis county prosecuting attorney began with the final utterance of the Pledge of Allegiance at the St. Louis County Council meeting.
“For all,” crowd members shouted as the pledge concluded with, “and justice for all.”
Michael Brown’s family, protesters and civil rights leaders have demanded that Wilson be charged with a crime. They say there is enough evidence for Prosecutor Bob McCulloch McCulloch to file charges directly without the use of a grand jury and they have demanded that he be replaced with a special prosecutor.

Restoration of trust between the Police and the Community will not begin until Officer Darren Wilson is charged and arrested for the murder of Michael Brown. Officer Wilson has yet to make a statement and there are six eyewitnesses who confirm that Michael Brown was executed. That makes it incomprehensible that Officer Wilson hasn’t been charged. If these witnesses, who all describe an execution, isn’t probable cause to believe Officer Wilson committed a murder, it’s hard to know what is.
What is most disturbing is the corruption that is present within Governor Nixon’s Office, Ferguson City Council, Ferguson Police Department, and Prosecutor McCulloch. Between these factions, a conspiracy has been formulated whereby Officer Wilson is being protected and guaranteed to not only escape facing justice for the murder he committed, but he will be financially compensated for the remainder of his life. People on the outside recognize this conspiracy and corruption but are without options to prevent it. Prosecutor McCulloch, with the backing of the Governor, has abrogated his civil duties by refusing to review the evidence and make a decision of whether to charge Officer Wilson or not. Instead, in order to maintain political favor, he has convened a Grand Jury and signaled its members to not issue an indictment. Once this occurs, Officer Wilson will walk and be free of the crime he committed. And, the Brown family will be left without a son and no recourse.
It’s a disgrace. There ought to be a law – but ironically, it is the law that is allowing Governor Nixon, Ferguson City Council, Ferguson Police Department and Prosecutor McCulloch to thwart justice – justice that is so very deserving of Michael Brown. Simply put, justice is rigged. Prosecutor McCulloch knows how to rig justice and he has been doing it for years – nothing will change when it comes to Officer Wilson.
We’ve all heard, “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” with the flag waving in the background. The truth is a lie, justice is a fantasy that is never obtained, and the American Way? Well, that’s the murder of Micheal Brown Jr., John Crawford III, Trayvon Martin, and an old lady being beaten on the side of the road in LA by the CHP.
Governor Nixon and Prosecutor McColluch know that they can just wait until people get tired and apathetic; their short attention spans cause them to forget who Michael Brown was – and Officer Wilson’s murder of Michael Brown will be quietly found to be justified – continuing the policy of legalized lynching of our young black teens.
How many people do you know who has been arrested and convicted with the word of one person? Prosecutors take the word of a black person when it comes to convicting another black person without question – but not when it comes to a white police officer – not even when there are six eye witnesses. There ought to be a law.
We can’t just sit back and let this happen – we can’t.

If Officer Wilson Is Not Indicted, McCulloch Vows To Release Grand Jury Transcripts, Recordings

If the St. Louis County grand jury fails to indict Officer Darren Wilson, Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch will immediately release full transcripts and audio recordings of the grand jury proceedings, his spokesman said Tuesday.
Ed Magee, McCulloch’s executive assistant, said in an interview that the prosecutor has not yet decided whether the names of the witnesses would be released along with their testimony. “I know we will be releasing the transcriptions of the testimony…I don’t know about the names yet; we’re not sure how that is going to work.”
Grand jury proceedings often are not transcribed. Missouri law only requires transcription if a witness is given immunity for testimony or if the judge overseeing the grand jury orders transcription. But Magee confirmed that McCulloch had made a decision to transcribe and tape the proceedings.
There would be no public release of grand jury materials if Wilson is indicted for killing Michael Brown in Ferguson on Aug. 9. Instead the state’s evidence would be presented in a trial.
The immediate release of grand jury materials in the absence of an indictment is extremely unusual. Not all legal experts think it’s a good idea.
McColloch is setting up the grand jury to take the FALL, if there is no indictment of Darren Wilson. It’s all planned. THEY MUST BE STOPPED!
