    The Journey for Justice Alliance

Across our cities and school districts, our public schools are being closed. Students are being displaced and families are losing access to neighborhood schools. Sometimes, closure is based on student academic performance. Sometimes it is rationalized by under-enrollment or financial needs. But in every case—every time a neighborhood public school is closed—students’ education is disrupted and communities are destabilized.

School closings are not distributed evenly across our districts. In every district represented in the Journey for Justice coalition, school closings disproportionately impact African American and Latino students, schools and communities. That is why several of our organizations have filed Title VI complaints with the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights. We are demanding that the Department investigate the racial impact of school closings in our cities.

We are on a Journey for Justice. From our sidewalks, our backyards and our homes, we see things that aren’t reported by those who try to justify and explain these closings. Officials in Washington, D.C. need to see if from our perspective.

Angela Corey is only retrying #MichaelDunn to quell any protest against retrying #marissaalexander. This is not good for Marrissaalexander!

I’ve heard this and truthfully, I don’t know the answer. But Dunn’s jury was split 9-3 (if I’m not mistaken) in favor of conviction and that generally leads to a retrial. A split like that virtually guarantees a retrial.

The President and the Tow Truck Driver
Clarence Baugh, who clears a path for all presidential motorcades through New York, has served every president since George H.W. Bush. But until this week, he’d never met one.
The New York cops call him the tow truck driver to the presidents.

“In a world in turmoil where the president of the United States is in search of a course of action, one man clears the path ahead, and if there’s anything in the way, he moves it,” an NYPD sergeant said this week. “His name is Clarence Baugh.”

Baugh is the longtime driver of the tow truck in the “sweep team” that precedes all presidential motorcades through New York, ever ready to remove any and all obstructing vehicles.

He is also so manifestly and forthrightly pleasant as to seem like good nature personified, unsoured by his previous assignments hauling away the vehicles of resentful scofflaws in Brooklyn and Queens.
