What a wonderful tribute Rikyrah. Thank you. Thank you so much for honoring this most splendid woman. A completely genuine, unassuming and devoted woman, wife, mother, daughter. Our infinitely grounded, brilliant, insightful, loyal and all around spectacular First Lady.

It is common knowledge that I adore, greatly admire, respect and remain extremely protective of Mrs Obama.

I completely embrace and appreciate her for she is and always will be for me such an inspiration. She is for this mixed race girl – me, my black mother, my white father, the singular metaphor for all black women at this moment and for many years to come.

I not only refuse to let anyone belittle, disrespect, dishonor or dismiss her, it is imperative as far as I’m concerned, that she is fully and continually acknowledged and honored because as easy as she makes all this look – and even as she’s graciously taken a back seat, silently taken the lumps, never made this in the least about her, but most passionately and proudly sacrificed for, supported and cheered on her great partner in love and life – what she’s contributed, deprived herself and lost in the course of navigating, and as she continues to stoically navigate the ins and out of her husband’s historic ascent to the presidency of a country that in many ways still denies her – a black American woman, descendant of slaves, born without any advantages, privilege or wealth – the respect and dignity easily and generously and without any thought, doled out to those of other race and color. This made even all the more evident as she’s taken her place as the accomplished in her own right, spotlessly clean, did everything right and in the right way, Princeton/Harvard educated, first black First Lady of these United States.

Very few can ever begin to contemplate what this journey has been like for her, and many of us will never know.

I fiercely, unapologetically and unyieldingly honor and celebrate her. Today, tomorrow and for eternity. She rocks!!!

Love this pic They won’t ever forget where they came from, how they moved through this world, and how they got to PA Avenue.

So spot on Ametia! They’ve made this amazing journey together. Through thick and thin. From many years ago when there was absolutely nothing…And that’s why I’ll never tolerate any insidious attempts by some dubious folks to re-write their story.

So sweet and profound their love and bond and most importantly, the truth this photograph captures. She traveling with him to his paternal village in Africa – and looking at that background, the poverty and devastation in that village is palpable. And I’m going to confess right now, that not only would I have been terrified and would never ever have gone along, like most spoiled Americans, I’d never have entertained even for a second, or be caught dead in any village especially one without modern conveniences – for anything, or anyone. I’ve always said that in every regard, she’s an infinitely better woman than I’ll ever be
