Hutch returned to Motown in 1982, where he scored the disco hit, “In and Out“, that same year and also recorded a song for the film The Last Dragon in 1985 called “The Glow”. Hutch left Motown again by the end of the decade and by 1994 had moved back to Dallas.
Hutch continued to record and perform while living comfortably on royalties from old hits and new samples.[1] His manager, Anthony Voyce, said of Hutch: “I’ve never met a more generous and caring person.”[1] He died in 2005.[1]
He is survived by six children, and was the uncle to Cold 187um of the rap group Above the Law

You live in Chicago, could you please tell since when did Sneed become a credible source for anything regarding the Obamas? I’ve read quite a bit of Sneed’s hateful and innuendo-filled bile, and this is not a good person as far as I can tell.
Rev. Al and a now sadly shallow roundtable are discussing the location for the presidential library and Rev. Al is quoting an item sourced from Sneed!! That the President has left the decision for the location to the First Lady who wants it in New York at the Columbia Harlem campus.
I’d think Rev. Al is savvy enough and would know to verify his sources before helping spread some rumor, especially one that pits the First Lady against her hometown of Chicago. Trying to make Mrs Obama look like the bad person who forced a particular disappointing decision – something that seems to be quite a thing for many.
There was some guy who was part of on the roundtable who of course wouldn’t see anything unusual about Laura Bush or Ann Romney making decisions on key matters in their husband’s lives (George W. Bush’s library is situated at Laura’s alma mater, and she spearheaded the entire process!), but scoffed at the idea that the President would let ‘Michelle’ make this very important decision about his library.
If indeed the Obamas are looking at New York and Mrs Obama is for it, it’ll only be because she knows Chicago very well, and there must be some mess that’s happening around putting the library there that she’s trying to avoid. Mrs Obama is very private and organized, and is not big on messy nor is she known to put things out there – and especially not through unnamed sources who spill to haters like Sneed.

Introducing Obamcare Lite: What the new GOP health reform ‘alternative’ really tells us

Plainly wounded by the Plum Line’s mockery, some congressional Republicans have finally unveiled a plan to replace the Affordable Care Act with their own health care reform. Is it serious? It’s certainly serious enough to examine and judge on its merits. Will it become the plan around which Republicans will unite? I doubt it, just because it’s hard to imagine Republicans ever uniting around a plan to do anything proactive on health care, though that’s always possible.
What’s really remarkable about this plan is that for all the claims we’ll hear about how it undoes the tyrannical horror of Obamacare, the Republicans’ version of health care reform has accepted most of the fundamental goals and regulatory paths of the law they so deeply despise. This plan — authored by Senators Richard Burr and Orrin Hatch and Rep. Fred Upton — is little more than Obamacare Lite. Though the devil is in the details — and there are some devilish ones — this tells us that Barack Obama has for all intents and purposes won the health care argument, at least as far as it concerns government’s role in health care.
Here are some of the provisions, which I’ve copied from their synopsis:

•Ensure NO ONE can be denied coverage based on their pre-existing condition;
•Prohibit insurance companies from imposing lifetime limits on a consumer;
•Adopt an age rating ratio that limits the amount an older individual will pay to no more than five times what a younger individual pays (5 to 1) as a baseline, unless a state affirmatively elects to have a different ratio;
•Require health plans to offer dependent coverage up to age 26, unless a state opts out of this provision;
•Ensure guaranteed renewability for patients to be able to renew their coverage;
•Create a new “continuous coverage protection” that rewards individuals moving from one health market to another — regardless of whether in the individual, small group, or large employer markets — by allowing them to get a similar plan at a similar cost and not be rated on health status.
In addition, they would reduce the availability of subsidies from their current 400 percent of the poverty level to 300 percent of the poverty level, and repeal the Medicaid expansion but allow poor people not on Medicaid to get subsidies. The subsidies also would no longer be tied to the actual cost of insurance, and they’d be a tax credit instead of a direct subsidy at the point of sale. There’s also a provision replacing the “Cadillac Tax” on high-value plans with a provision removing the deductibility of employer health care plans that cost over a certain level.
If all that’s making your eyes glaze over, consider it this way: Again and again in the Republican plan, what they do is take a provision or principle in the Affordable Care Act and essentially say, “We want to do that too, we’ll just do it a little less generously.” No denials for pre-existing conditions? It’s in there, but there are some important caveats (which I’ll get to in a moment). No lifetime limits on coverage? In there. Young people up to age 26 can stay on their parents’ plan? Yes, but a state could opt out. Subsidies for middle-class people? In there, just up to 300 percent of the poverty level. Coverage for the poor? Yes, just up to 100 percent of poverty instead of 138 percent. Tax on high-value plans? Yep, just in a different way. Government-set limit on how much insurers could vary premiums by age? Yes, but the ratio would be expanded from 3-1 up to 5-1. A mandated list of “essential health benefits” for all plans? Yes, but the states would determine the list instead of the federal government, with more flexibility.

State Senate passes minimum wage hike that goes higher, faster than Rauner wants

The Illinois Senate on Thursday passed an increase in the state’s minimum wage to $11 by 2019, one day after Gov. Bruce Rauner used his State of the State speech to pitch a lower, more gradual increase.
The bill by Sen. Kimberly Lightford, D-Maywood, passed 35-18 and now moves to the House. It increases the minimum wage from $8.25 to $9 by July 1. The wage would then increase by 50 cents every year until it reaches the $11 ceiling. It also includes a tax credit for businesses with fewer than 50 employees.
Lightford said there are “hundreds of thousands” of minimum wage workers in Illinois.
“This will be a great first step to help them,” Lightford said.
But it also might allow Chicago a higher minimum wage than the rest of the state. The Chicago City Council last year passed an ordinance that raises the city’s minimum wage to $13 an hour by 2019. Lightford’s bill allows that to go forward, but it prohibits the city from raising the wage beyond $13 unilaterally.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is backing the plan.
Rauner, a Republican, told the Democratic-controlled General Assembly Wednesday he wants to raise the minimum wage to $10 over seven years. Lawmakers openly laughed at the proposal.

Instead, excuses are put forth as to why the violence was justified, and the victims are either forgotten or blamed for their own killing. Kitzhaber faces political crisis in Oregon

It was just a few months ago that Oregon Democrats celebrated a very successful election cycle. Despite significant Republican gains in much of the country, Dems had a great 2014 in the Beaver State, up and down the ballot. Helping lead the way was Gov. John Kitzhaber (D), who was re-elected to an unprecedented fourth term.
The governor’s campaign was not, however, entirely easy. Several controversies, many of which related to Kitzhaber’s fiancée, Cylvia Hayes, arose, but they weren’t enough to derail his re-election bid.
A month after the governor’s fourth inaugural, however, the Democrat’s career is suddenly in jeopardy. The Oregonian/OregonLive reported yesterday on a burgeoning controversy in which Kitzhaber aides helped “create jobs” for Hayes “with groups hoping to influence Oregon’s state energy policy.”
Hayes, the governor’s fiancée, held the paying jobs even as her role inside Kitzhaber’s office as an unpaid energy adviser geared up in 2011, her state calendar shows.
One paid her $5,000 a month for five months just after Kitzhaber started his third term as governor. Greg Wolf, currently Kitzhaber’s deputy chief of staff for field implementation, was key in creating the job and recommending Hayes for it just before he joined the administration, according to key participants including Wolf.
Another paid her $118,000 over two years, a fellowship orchestrated by Dan Carol, a Kitzhaber campaign adviser. He joined Kitzhaber’s staff the same month Hayes started collecting on her fellowship.
Or put another way, members of the governor’s team helped the governor’s fiancée get lucrative jobs with groups hoping to influence state energy policy, even while she advised the governor on energy issues.
The article quoted a local scholar, Jim Moore, a Pacific University government professor who heads the Tom McCall Center for Policy Innovation, who said Kitzhaber’s fiancée appeared to be “actively playing both sides of the revolving door at the same time.”

On literally the first day of the new Congress, Politico asked Don Stewart, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), what McConnell sees as his biggest challenge. “Democrat obstruction,” Stewart replied.
Putting aside the fact that he probably meant “Democratic obstruction,” the response was striking in its irony. McConnell, arguably more than any senator in the nation’s history, mastered the art of obstructionism, taking it to levels with no precedent in the American experiment. For his office to suddenly decry McConnell’s own practices was a reminder of just how much perspectives can change when one moves from the minority to the majority.
A month later, the posturing is almost amusing.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) accused Democrats Wednesday of knee-jerk obstructionist tactics, flipping a script that Democrats used many times in recent years.
McConnell criticized Democrats for filibustering a motion to debate a House-passed bill funding the Department of Homeland Security that contained language blocking President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.
“And now Americans are wondering: What could possibly lead Democrats to filibuster Homeland Security funding?” he said on the Senate floor.
I suspect Americans aren’t really wondering that at all – the question is actually pretty easy to answer, as the Majority Leader probably realizes – but it’s the broader context that’s truly amazing.
If we were to create some kind of electronic mechanism to measure hypocrisy on a dial, and we had the machine analyze Team McConnell’s whining, the box would have very likely caught on fire yesterday.

Michelle Obama To Visit Upper West Side To Help Announce Major Donation

In a series of Facebook posts obtained by ThinkProgress, the senior adviser for policy and communications to Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) posted racial comments and endorsed gentrification of his neighborhood.
Benjamin Cole, a former Baptist pastor and energy industry spokesman, posted a series of videos and comments on October 13, 2013 mocking two African Americans outside his DC apartment. In the first, he compared them to animals escaping from the National Zoo engaged in “mating rituals.” That message included a video of a woman, shouting and seemingly engaged in an argument with someone not visible as she walked. In each of his posts, he used the hashtag “#gentrifytoday.”

Family Gathering to Say Goodbye to Bobbi Kristina Brown
It wasn’t the news that Bobbi Kristina Brown’s family wanted to hear.
On Wednesday, four days after the 21-year-old was found unresponsive in her home, a doctor told her family that nothing more could be done. “Everyone is coming to the hospital to say goodbye,” says a family member.
The news was especially devastating to her father, Bobby Brown. “Bobby has been crying nonstop since yesterday,” says the source. “We are grieving.”
A second family member went by the hospital overnight to say goodbye – and admits that the devastating news is hard to believe.
“If you saw her, you’d think she was just sleeping,” says the source.
But even with the bleakest prognosis, the family is still clinging to some hope. “It’s sinking in that this is it,” says the second family member, “but we’re all still praying that God will intervene and heal her body.”

Fall in Fortunes for Pennsylvania Attorney General

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The question before Pennsylvanians is this: Is Kathleen G. Kane, the first woman to be elected as the state’s attorney general, the victim of angry men who targeted her after she exposed their pornography habits?
Or are Ms. Kane’s problems — she stands accused by a grand jury of a bevy of crimes — the self-imposed travails of a political comet who rose from obscurity to eminence, only to be undone by her own temperament and inexperience?
Last year, a special prosecutor charged that Ms. Kane, a Democrat, had violated secrecy rules by leaking information to a newspaper concerning an investigation by her Republican predecessor into the finances of a Philadelphia civil rights leader. Late last month, a grand jury recommended that Ms. Kane be charged with perjury, false swearing, official oppression and obstruction concerning that case.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a county prosecutor from filing charges, pending a hearing in March in that court. Ms. Kane’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, noted that there is no charge of illegally leaking grand jury information, which he said cast doubts on the strength of the case against her.
Ms. Kane, 48, places blame for her legal troubles on former prosecutors in the attorney general’s office whose work on the child sexual abuse case at Pennsylvania State University she impugned during her campaign and whose explicit emails she found and exposed once in office. Further, she refused to prosecute a public corruption case that one of them had helped build before she arrived.
“This all started because of retaliation against me for doing my job,” Ms. Kane said in an interview. “There is no doubt they are angry with me.”
Regardless of fault, Ms. Kane’s descent is the swiftest and steepest in memory, even in a state where corruption in politics is as common as the housefly. Former Kane staff members, elected officials and even her supporters say her problems stem largely from her inexperience in management and missteps in judgment.

Titled “The Slap,” the Australian TV 8-part mini, which co-starred Sophie Okonedo, is based on the award-winning novel by Christos Tsiolkas, which traces the shattering repercussions of a single event on a group of family and friends. At an Australian backyard barbecue, a man slaps a child who is not his son. The boy’s parents are so affronted by the assault that they call the police and legal action results, as questions of parenting, the rights of children, race, class, sexuality and the different perspectives of men and women are tackled.

First a quick recap…
Just over 3 years ago, Nick Cassavetes (son of indie film trailblazer John Cassavetes) signed on to direct a biopic on the life of notorious 1980’s drug dealer Rick Ross (not the rapper).
The film was to, reportedly, explore Ross’s ingenious and complex scheme of the crack cocaine trade in Los Angeles during the early 80’s – the height of his success – moving 100 kilograms of cocaine daily, which was distributed across the country – product that he claims was supplied by Nicaraguan rebels/Contras.
“My brother was a mercenary. He worked in Central America training the Contras, so in a way the story is personal to me… The fact that our government may have been complicit in destroying an entire community of people makes the story personal for everyone,” Cassavetes said at the time, adding, “if I had to compare this movie to another that’s been made in terms of a feeling, a point of view, maybe ‘Traffic.'” Of course referring to Steven Soderbergh’s Oscar-winning 2000 film that explored the illegal drug trade from several different POVs.
Ross said the film would focus mostly on his adult life, though not including the 20 years he spent behind bars.

The Best-Paying Job in Each State
You might be interested (though probably not surprised) to learn that the best-paying occupation in every state is in health care, and more specifically, it’s always some type of doctor.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ most recent annual mean wage estimates from 2013, surgeons fared the best in 13 states, including Arizona, Maryland and New Jersey. OB-GYNs had the best salaries in 11 states, including Indiana, Mississippi and Oregon. Anesthesiologists had the best salaries of any other profession in six states and the District of Columbia, followed by orthodontists, who took the top salary in six states. And U.S. News’ No. 1 job, dentist, was the best-paid profession in Vermont with an average salary of $215,410. Throughout the country, average salaries range from $192,770 (for OB-GYNs in New Mexico) to $252,390 (for orthodontists in Wisconsin).

Hey Parents: Have Your Kids Watched ‘Sara Solves It’ – Amazon’s New Animated Kids Pilot?

I’m not a parent, so this isn’t a program that I’d have noticed, but I know a lot of you reading this do have kids, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t, at least, call your attention to it.
Not as much fanfare, it seems, for Amazon’s new series – compared to the excitement that typically surrounds those released by Netflix. Unless I’m just not paying attention. But, you may or may not have heard that, last month, Amazon Studios announced its first pilot season of 2015, with all available on Amazon Instant Video in the US, UK and Germany.
In total, 7 new drama, comedy and docu-series pilots premiered, as well as 4 animated kids pilots. I previously highlighted the adult dramas with casts that include actors of African descent (like Romany Malco co-starring in what is described as a dark comedy drama titled “Mad Dogs;” Lucien Laviscount and Adrienne Warren in a Civil War-set drama “Point of Honor;” and Toks Olagundoye in a half-hour comedy titled “Salem Rogers”); But I neglected to do the same for the animated kids pilots.
This one specifically: “Sara Solves It,” which Amazon says is for preschool-aged children.
This animated musical produced by WGBH and Out of the Blue Enterprises titled “Sara Solves It,” which follows 9-year-old whiz kid Sara and her younger brother Sam as they work together in order to solve mysteries in their apartment building, at school and beyond, using creative problem solving! Each mystery is an interactive, problem, steeped in musical goodness.
In the pilot episode, which, again, is now available to watch, viewers use math and music in a creative way as they help Sara and Sam solve the “cheesiest pizza mystery!”

Perhaps the luckiest politician in America this week is Gov. Chris Christie (R). The New Jersey Republican inadvertently touched off a ridiculous conversation about the politics of vaccinations on Monday, and was poised to be at the center of an ugly controversy – right up until Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) eclipsed him with even more problematic comments.
As of last night, the Republican senator was still trying to work his way out of the whole he’d dug for himself.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Wednesday continued to walk back his comments that parents should be allowed to choose whether to vaccinate their children, saying he holds the same position as President Barack Obama on the matter.
“I got annoyed that people were trying to depict me as someone who doesn’t think vaccines were a good idea,” Paul told Fox News host Greta Van Susteren on Wednesday, noting that he had been vaccinated before a recent trip to Guatemala and had vaccinated his children. “I’m not sure I’m different from the president or anyone else on the position,” Paul said.
Hmm. President Obama didn’t connect vaccines to “profound mental disorders,” but Rand Paul did. President Obama has never connected vaccines to “martial law,” but Rand Paul has.
And President Obama was certainly never a member of a deeply strange group called the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, but Rand Paul was.
Back in 2009, when Rand Paul was pursuing his long-shot bid to win Kentucky’s Republican Senate primary, he spoke to a small physicians’ association that has publicized discredited medical theories, including possible links between vaccines and autism and between abortion and an increased risk of breast cancer.
At the time, Mr. Paul, an ophthalmologist, was no stranger to the group, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. He boasted at its annual meeting that he had been a member for more than two decades and that he relied on its research, statistics and views about the role of government in medicine.
“I am not a newcomer to AAPS,” Mr. Paul said, referring to the group.
It’s a curious thing to boast about. The AAPS has promoted the idea that there’s a link between vaccinations and autism (there is no evidence to substantiate the claim). The same group has also argued that there’s a link between abortion and breast cancer (also not true) and that a “ ‘gay male lifestyle” will reduce someone’s lifespan by about 20 years (again, not true).
The AAPS, which listed Paul as a member as recently as 2013, has also questioned whether HIV causes AIDS. whether Vincent Foster was secretly murdered, and whether anti-asbestos regulations contributed to the World Trade Center collapse on 9/11.

Some of our youth these days think they have a grasp of the world, and still trying to cut their baby teeth.
Instead of joining with their elders and bringing what they have to the table, mainly the tech stuff.
They have no respect for the elders, for their wisdom, the time put in, they want to come in and shove their elders aside, without learning from them.

I suspect that Trayvon’s family believes that somehow he was chosen, that what had to be had to be, because there is so much injustice in this country. And there seems to be truth in that, but the chosen ones like Emmett and Oscar and Trayvon and Jordan and Michael to name a few will forever break our hearts when we think of their stolen lives.
