In 1982 SAE members at the University of Cincinnati were suspended for a racially demeaning party corresponding with Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.[21]
In 2013, SAE members at Washington University in St. Louis were suspended for singing racial slurs to African-American Students.[22]
In 2014, the chapter at Clemson University hosted a “Cripmas” party in reference to Southern California based African-American crips gang. The chapter “suspended all activity indefinitely”, according to the SAE national office.[23][24][25] Also, in 2014, SAE members at the University of Arizona were suspended for attacking Alpha Epsilon Pi, a Jewish fraternity.[26][27][23]
The national organization of Sigma Alpha Epsilon closed the University of Oklahoma chapter in March, 2015 after a video surfaced showing members chanting a song which featured the racial slur, “nigger,” and made reference to lynching. The chant, set to the popular children’s song, “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, declares, “There will never be a nigger in SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me.”[28] Sigma Alpha Epsilon suspended the charter of the involved chapter and suspended its members on March 8, 2015.[2] The University of Oklahoma president, David Boren, closed the fraternity chapter,[29] giving members two days to vacate the fraternity’s campus dwellings. All employees of the house – including an African-American cook, were also evicted and left jobless.[30] On March 10, 2015, two students identified in the video were expelled from the university.[31][32]

Victims of sexual assault need time to “heal.” Soldiers who served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and suffer from PTSD need time to “heal” — if that is even possible. Families of unarmed African-American teenagers who are gunned down in the street by trigger-happy cops who know there will be no repercussions in a country where black lives don’t matter – they need time to “heal” although that pain will never ever go away.
But the families of privileged young men who think it perfectly fine to lead drunken sing-alongs to songs about lynching “niggers” on a party bus?
They don’t get to plead for time to “heal” while at the same time explaining that their son is actually a swell kid of sound character who deep deep down has a really good heart… just like we raised him. Hooray for us.

There are a lot of truly idiotic ways to talk about popular culture. But if I could banish just one of them from the realm of public discourse, it would be the weird and persistent tendency to blame white racism on black rappers.

For host Mika Brzezinski, it was a matter of hypocrisy, noting that the rapper both conjures up violent scenarios in his songs and uses some of the same slurs the boys used. “It’s full of n-words, it’s full of f-words. It’s wrong,” she argued. “And he shouldn’t be disgusted with them, he should be disgusted with himself.”
Mika is only another white liberal. Many mostly harbor these deep (sub)conscious indignations and resentments about race, racism and controlling and calling the shots about how black people react to, and how racism, race issues are viewed and discussed. And it will often spill out in the course of these sort of discussions. I call it the Berkeley liberal missionary complex. It manifests itself in this sense of knowing better than and being superior.
They’ll march with black people, seat on panels, write scathing epistles on race and racial attitudes, feign outrage to instances of racism to prove their righteousness. But when and where it actually matters, when it’s down to brass tacks, and real issues of real human interaction as equals in every respect, and how they truly perceive you as a black person, the truth is that they really don’t see you as equals. And heaven help you if you dare challenge that utter sense of superiority and knowing better, the claws then come out.
Many may have voted for and are effusive in their support of President Obama, but this in no way is reflective of how they really process and think of race, racism or how they treat black people in general. Heck, not even the President’s own black wife is exempt from their condescension.

There’s something about Mika, Scarborough, their panelists, guests and the show in general, that’s particularly frightening in its bold-faced and arrogant denial of reality and fact. (Frightening only because this three hour long show sets the message and tone each day for a so-called liberal cable network.)
It’s like they all live in this made-up bubble heavily steeped in warped denial where their puppet masters, their greed mindset and control power at all costs agenda reigns infallibly supreme. And Scarborough can pull stuff out of his butt, lie with such brazenness, and even get to contradict himself – say one thing today, take the opposite side tomorrow, and pretend its the same thing. The ease with which this man lies and speaks from every side of his mouth, is scary. The balancing act of a very entitled, arrogant racist who can’t shed the hallmarks of his deep racist, entitled being and leanings, but who desperately wants to be part of the happening, mostly liberal, east coast crowd – which prior to the Obama presidency, managed to cover many of the deep racist attitudes that we now see afflicts even some of our previously best east coast liberal elite. Steve Rattner and Donny Deutsch are of course the flimsier, much lower end, neither here nor there, representatives of that formerly ‘liberal’ N.Y set – representing Wall Street and shyster world respectively, but all willing to put their racist and intolerant arrogance on display each morning on MSNBC.
